Is it too much to expect that police officers who are trained with using guns to use these guns in a non-lethal way like shooting at the legs or shoulders

of perpetraters who they are trying to subdue . ?

Hmmm....if some nutjob is charging me with a weapon, I don't think I'll be deciding how to wing him just hoping it stops him. What if he's on PCP? Shooting him in the leg will just piss him off.

Let's consider:

option 1: shoot him in the leg, hit the femoral artery, and he bleeds out in 3 minutes.

option 2: shoot him in the shoulder and hit the subclavian artery and he bleeds out in 3 minutes.

In boxing there's a saying: "Everyone has a plan until het gets hit".

It's very easy to think that while being attacked and your life is threatened that you'd be a compassionate, well-aimed shootist.

Bottom line is: if you don't want to get shot by a police officer (or anyone else) don't be an a**hole.

wal-mart, which pays a top wage of $12.00+ to its full-time employees, is under attack, once again, by its employees and those who would like to unionize them.. i can't speak to the usa, but here in canada, most wal-mart employees are not full time.

it is mostly a part-time employer, so zero benefits.

in my opinion, that makes the $12.00+ look a lot smaller when you envision the actual paycheque.

Ironically enough, through government subsidies for education. Nice how that works, right?

I'm not in disagreement with you on this. I personally boycott businesses I don't like who have not-so-great business practices.

Bottom line is, though: people are not forced to work for Walmart. If they apply for and get hired for a job that pays $7 an hour for 30 hours a week, how can this same person claim they got bamboozled?? They knew exactly what they were getting into. If $7/hour for 30 hours a week is not enough for them to live on, then don't apply for a job at Walmart.

I might not like the fact that I don't make as much money as Tom Cruise, it's "unfair" he makes more money than I do, I "deserve" to be a millionaire too, but it doesn't change the fact that he makes movies that earn hundreds of millions of dollars and I don't.

I've read more than one rags-to-riches story where some person was a waitress, ditch digger, whatever, and when the pain of not earning enough to live on became too great, they rolled up their sleeves and changed their lives. People working at Walmart have the very same opportunities. If they put as much effort into bettering their lives as they do protesting and pissing & moaning, they wouldn't still be working at Walmart. End of story.

truthseekeriam: Most likely you will never be in a situation where you have to worry about how scary you might look to someone with a gun. I don't have that privilege, I have to worry each time my husband or son drives away hoping they remember to always keep their hands on the wheel if pulled over by a police officer.

But, according to your example, having your hands on the wheel won't matter, because if you look "scary" the police officer is going to shoot you anyway, right?

The trial and subsequent verdict was not about the relative 'scariness' of the suspect. It was about a dumbass who stupidly attacked a police officer.

I have to classify the Ferguson riots as much more likely an opportunist excuse (largely if not entirely) for acting out and getting away with it within dysfunctional community of peers.

Exactly what I said on page 5, Terry. Boil it all down and this is not about racism or a trial gone bad...it's troglodytes doing what they do, nothing more.

Persons who attack someone for no cause other than to do harm place THEMSELF at risk and THEY are responsible for the outcome.

Translation: if you don't want to risk getting shot, don't charge at a police officer. It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure that one out.

The oil and gas industry received just under $38 billion in U.S. government subsidies -taxpayer's money- in 2014. ExxonMobil, as other energy corporations, are some of the richest corporations on the planet.

How many here "just say no to big oil" by refusing to drive a car, take a bus, fly in an airplane or heat your home with propane or natural gas?

I'm in agreement with the sentiments expressed here about Walmart, but, really, they are not the only one doing what they do. How far are you willing to take your angst against big corporations? If you boycott Walmart on principle then you should be willing to do it with all big corps you think are shafting you. Walmart pays such a low wage that many employees do have to get subsidies, i.e food stamps/welfare, but what's the difference when Exxon gets your tax dollars as a subsidy? Either way, it's taxpayer (read: yours/my) money.

Missouri doesn't have the Stand your ground law

True enough. Mo. calls their law Stand Your Ground law "The Castle Doctrine".

Castle Doctrine

Missouri is a castle doctrine state with a “stand-your-ground” law. The state enacted a castle law in 2007 that removed the duty to retreat for persons who are attacked within their home or vehicle.
