My brother died last night
by doodle-v inmy brother turned 21 on september 24th, a month later the doctor told him that his leukimia had returned and he had a 10% chance of surviving.
ten days before he died he spent four days at my house.
he had already made up his mind that he wasnt going to take blood.

doodle-v-My deepest sympathies to you, how sad, how tragic. As you have chosen to share your sorrow with the members of this board now, I pray that you will continue to seek the support and kindness of those who may have similar experiences and have emerged renewed and energized. There is really nothing anyone can say to you that will ease your pain but find comfort for yourself knowing that there are so many who care, deeply, having only known you through the cyber world. Sometimes we forget through our written words that there are indeed real people out there at those monitor screens and keyboards. Your post reminded me of that now. Blessings to you.....

Blondie! How profound! And so important to us all, especially our ex-jw-kin who feel that they "can't" get ahead due to the past! True, many of our lives would be so different; I would have been a singer as encouraged all through school (chorus director CAME TO MY HOUSE to ARGUE with my mother as to her not allowing me to join the group with my voice!), I would have thrilled at the HS prom (signed out of HS in JUNE of my JUNIOR year as I was showing signs of "rebellion" and Dad wanted me to pioneer), I would have gone to college, traveled, started a business...but guess what!? NO-ONE is abusing or brainwashing me now so I AM doing all those things! Your post reminds us that the NOW is what is important! Thank you for that! Another quote that I live by and have taught my children to consider is from Eleanor Roosevelt "No one can make you feel inferior without your permission!" and the old cliche' from "Terry and the Pirates" (aging myself now! LOL!) "Don't TRY...Just DO IT!!" There are no "buts/ifs" in my world......

Even more seriously....the pursuit of knowledge & wisdom. College at ANY AGE is so empowering and my spirituality has been strengthened through such education, free from religious impositions and rigid mind sets.

Anyone interested in some old WT books / publications?
by YellowLab ini was cleaning my basement the other day and came across a box of old wt books and publications i stowed away after i did the "fade".
i wasn't sure if i should toss them, use them for fireplace kindling, sell them on ebay, or see if anyone here would be interested in them.
i haven't gotten through the entire box yet, so i don't have a fully comprehensive list, but here are some to name a few:.

Does anyone have a WT/AWAKE cover pertaining to the Occult?

i have a huge power-point presentation due by friday, and need some depiction from the wtbts concerning the "dangers" of the occult or spiritism.
it deals with the tremendous variations of our world and how "evil" is defined and relative to each individual (ex; the i-ching is vital to confucianism, but feared by jw's, the crusades sought to "save" everyone by forcing conversion to catholicism, but tortured and blinded non believers with agonizing hot iron rods, etc.....)

Oh Great Teacher! You forgot some vital elements to this procedure being successfull! FIRST-you have to turn the lights ON-did you know that demons were "afraid" of the light? NEXT-you pray to jehovah, loudly, BUT, you MUST do so in JESUS' name!!! What a kick I get out of all that now....who did the "what demons are afraid of" research anyway?
