  thesits are fond of reminding us that science cannot prove there is no god, and in this they are correct.

  however, science should not be dismissed so lightly by anybody who values a faith that is more than a mere fantasy.. theologians like john shelby spong have shown the intellectual honesty to embrace the truths that science has discovered and adapted their religious beliefs to take account of reality.

  sadly many theists lack the courage to do likewise.

  Hi, Im new (kind of)

  hi, i was here years ago but havnt been around for maybe 7 or 8 years.

  i was brought up as a jw, my mum still is, ive studied and studied over the years but have never been baptized and have always had nagging doubts.. ive been trying to talk to my mum and her husband about my doubts but its like they dont understand what im saying, my mum's husband jumps from one topic to the next, throwing point after point at me and doesnt listen to any of the answers i give him.. for instance this week i told him that i doubt the bible because when it talks about the last days it fails to mention the ice caps melting or about the technology we now have but talks about wars etc that mankind has always known.

  i just get the same answer from him everytime "it cant mention everything or the bible would be a mile long".

  common sense doesn't allow you to get some - thing from no - thing

  that's why it's interesting

  something pretty mysterious had to give rise to the origins of the universe

  a naive person would conceive as no - thing or what a sophisticated physicist would conceive as nothing

  it is going to be something much much simpler than a creative intelligence

  some - thing can come from no - thing

  you get back to a zone where we don't understand

  and you get back to a zone where there's not no - thing but a primeval simplicity

  it is literally no - thing

  of course common sense doesn't allow you to get some - thing from no - thing

  that's why it's interesting

  it's got to be interesting in order to give rise to the universe at all

  Proof of Noah's Flood - Presently watching a Documentary about Europe & the Ice Age

  first time i ever heard anyone say there was 'proof' of noah's flood.. very interesting,.

  showed a trawler, where the team dredges regularly in the north sea - for animal bones, massive land animal bones, mammoths.. he said, originally, the bones were sent for analysis, and the dr stated, they were proof of noah's flood.. the north sea area was a land mass of dry grazing lands.

  and it was very similar to africa.. many bones were found in london, of lions, hippos, etc ... when they were digging out the underground.. .

  Global deluge or no, it is semantics really, people will believe what they want to believe.

  Through discussion and education, people learn about, origins, cultures, history, science, evidence and facts.

  Nature v nurture. chicken and egg.

  Science, as far as I am aware, does not 'deal' with emotions.

  Which is why it has taken so long for people to recieve the correct treatment they need.

  any way.... the search goes on, as does the learning process.

  ...i might drop in every now and then but i hope you all enjoy life, escape the watchtower(r) and live prosperous lives.. i can't say i contribute much here anyway (and i'm not attention seeking).. i'm just going to get on with life away from the constant reminder of the mistakes i made being a jw zombie drone.. i guess i'm just going to fade.......rather quickly.. of course i didn't need to make any posts here to disappear but i thought it'd be polite and very british to bid you all a fond farewell.. see you all sometime.....maybe.....maybe not.....maybe....... bye!.

  Ok. I hadn't forgotten about this discussion, which I personally feel to be very important. I haven't been feeling too good lately.

  Anyhow.

  In the North sea off Holland, scientists search for remains of bones.

  100 yrs ago, bones were given to a doctor for identification.

  He,. the Dr, said it was clear evidence of Noah's flood, whatever your belief about Noah, the Dr was right about the flood. as they were the bones of land animals, massive ones, woolly mammoths, in the middle of the N Sea

  The sea level was 100 M lower than it is today. The N sea area was all dry land.

  Not all of europe was buried in ice.

  N sea was one vast green valley.

  So that is the exact wording fromm the documentary.

  They are a very good series.

  England used to be down near the south pole. The world is a very different place from the ancient beginnings.

  is this based on their corruption of the bible story.. .

  How far can we go back, before 'religion' to the tribes.

  They had a different attitude to women, more respectful. The women were the healers, mother earth and all that.

  How can I dig deeper to find answers to these thing ?

  The whole world is run on a system of control.

  Just thinking about the 1500's, when the Church burned alive many who wanted to translate the Bible, and they sluaghtered the women healers for being 'witches'.

  People lost their connection with the earth, and medicinal plants etc.

  Now big pharma rules (money and power), people can't even smoke ganja.

  Deep thoughts lately.

  Sense of Mortality, Existential Angst and Leaving the Borg

  firstly apologies if i am stating the bleeding obvious or covering something that has already been covered or just showing my ignorance as someone who wasnever a jw - i am new here and relatively new in my exposure to the wbts organisation and its dogma.

  the thing that has occurred to me is that born-in jws and middle-age jws must avoid the teenage existential angst of really getting a sense of their own mortaility and the middle age crisis of realizing that their best years are behind and they on the long downhill slide, because they expect to live forever.

  i always wondered why teenage jws are goody two-shoes while they are believers and often go off the rails, even as 20 or 30 something adults, when they wake up and i figure that, apart from the fact that they are no longer being told what is right and wrong and all of a sudden have to work it out for themselves, this may related to the expectation that you will not physically die.
