Note-Taking at Meetings: What's the Point?
by Room 215 inthe last time i was at a meeting, i was struck by how many jws -- mostly women and pre-teenage kids were assiduously taking notes.
i mean, what is the point?
do they really believe the guy on the platform is saying anything that can't be found -- and reiterated -- dozens if not hundreds of times in their printed material?

Taking notes as a kid @ the KH did prove useful, it better prepared me for college....though maybe it wasn't as useful as I initially thought, I think I drew more than took notes, and that hasn't changed.

The birds are getting ready to eat us?
by santacruzchick inmy mom (a baptized jw who hasn't been to a meeting willfully in years) commented today on how the birds in the neighborhood have been acting more aggressive lately.
how they've been taunting and divebombing our cat, being loud and obnoxious, etc..(the probable reason for this is that our cat probably killed a baby bird or something).
she said the birds are getting ready to eat animals.

My mom (a baptized JW who hasn't been to a meeting willfully in years) commented today on how the birds in the neighborhood have been acting more aggressive lately. How they've been taunting and divebombing our cat, being loud and obnoxious, etc..(The probable reason for this is that our cat probably killed a baby bird or something). She said the birds are getting ready to eat animals. Confused, I said '"you mean the dead and sickly ones?", referring to vultures etc. And she said something like "no, Armaggedon is getting close, and the birds are getting ready to eat animals".. "yeah, they're gonna eat all the dead bodies of people Jehovah kills."
I'm sitting there confused as hell thinking "where the #%@* is this coming from?" It was sad to hear how my mom still fears dying in Armaggdon, yet she won't go back to the congregation. One of the two times we've talked about religion at all the past years (about 7) since we ( she mainly, since I only went when she did since I was younger ) stopped going to the Kingdom Hall I simply asked her "why don't you go to the Kindgom hall?" [I asked her this because I was coerced into going to a meeting with a sister I was guilted into studying with; and I didn't want to go alone and have to go through the annoying process of having entire congregation stare at me, then all come and be their fake happy selves w/ me alone] And her reply was "Because I don't want to" in a tone that also said "and because its none of your business." So I get that she doesn't want to go back to the congregation, but she still fears Armaggedon. I asked if she's seen that new movie The Day After Tomorrow (so i could talk to her about how bad and humorous it was) and she commented "no, it might make me have more nightmares of Armageddon"
Her comment about the birds actually getting ready to eat dead bodies was so random and bizzare, and hearing it come from my own mother even freaked me out about Armaggedon coming soon. It is hard to completely make that fear go away, but in all logic, I don't fear it anymore. Out of curiosity though, does it really say that the birds are going to eat everyone killed during Armadeddon somewhere in the Bible? Or was that just more BS from Bethel?

I don't fear death, I'm just not in a rush to meet it....although....
Last weekend I had a very bad trip on shrooms, and I died. I was mentally dead at least, and the hell I was in was so bad that I wondered if I were to physically kill myself if it would alleviate any of the torment. I'm very surprised I didn't kill myself, I wanted to jump out my window, but I was too paranoid to move my body. If I had a gun I think might not be here. Shrooms...love em' and hate em.'

I could never be a Jehovah's Witness... I didn't see the accident. As far as I know, Jehovah didn't hit anybody.
Reminds me of when I was in elementary school, and I told a friend I couldn't celebrate some holiday (can't remember which) because my mom was a Jehovah's Witness....they asked "What did she witness?" , It was embrassing explaining it to her. It made me feel like such an outsider.
- Greg TaylorBut these are pretty funny, esp this one
What do you get when you cross a devil worshipper with a Jehovah's Witness?
Someone who goes from door to door telling people to go to hell. -

Old Family Photo's - Where We Come From
by dh ini was going through some photo's today and i came across this one, the scene is poland, world war ii, it is my grandma getting married to my grandfather who was killed shortly afterward.. i often look at old pictures to get a perspective of who i am and where i come from, my life exists because of wars, and it is because of those wars that i have so few blood relations, and those i did have i never knew, like i never knew my father, he never knew his father, my mother never knew her father and the only person who knows anything at all is my grandma, because grandmas know everything.
no uncles, no aunts, stepfathers going back generations... sometimes i just look at photos and wonder.. i can see in the faces that i share the same blood as these people, i just sometimes wish i knew them.. .
anyone else got any old photo's the feel like sharing?

My great great great.....(and them some) uncles...
My grandfather and his Indian friends =) (Some of the only memories I have of him are him telling me and my brothers about hunting w/ his Indian friends etc..)
My Yaqui greatgrandfather, and my Yaqui greatgrandmother. I saw pictures of them for the first time last summer, hidden away, in a dusty picture album at my grandmothers house (the grandmother who thinks she's white). So, at the encouragement of my aunt and uncle, I took some old family pics, certainly my grandmother won't miss them since she denies them. I put the pictures of my Yaqui greatgrandparents next to my bed, where I lay my head, for a constant reminder and comfort of who I am, and where I come from
(sorry if the pics come out too big, I don't know how to size them down.)

40 ...
31 TO 40 POINTS: Others see you as sensible, cautious, careful & practical. They see you as clever, gifted, or talented, but modest... Not a person who makes friends too quickly or easily, but someone who's extremely loyal to friends you do make and who expect the same loyalty in return. Those who really get to know you realize it takes a lot to shake your trust in your friends, but equally that it takes you a long time to get over it if that trust is ever broken.
Its true, althougth, since college, I've been acting less 'sensible, cautious, and practical,' but I think thats pretty much allowed. It does take some time for someone to become a friend of mine, or at least a friend I consider worthwhile having
