he steps down his position this last thursday.

it has come to our attention of a coverup that the brother in one of our kingdom halls this last week had stepped down for sleeping with another woman.

Sometimes this place feels like a train wreck. It feels like I jumped off before it happened, but I'm stuck watching carload after carload of people just piling into the mess. Know what? that girl is at an age where, if the parents don't press it, and the girl doesn't press it, that even if it gets very public, it will never go forward to criminal prosecution. I wish I was wrong - and hope to read a newspaper article that says so. But even if the girl doesn't think so now, someday she will realize that that preadator was a rapist, even if she now thinks she wanted it all along.

Mole, if it does get public and makes the papers, yes, please do post it.

just a brief run through of my life will be made, i don't have anything exceptional to say since my life is pretty plain in comparison to most people

Welcome to the outside!

As far as your dad goes, don't count him out yet. This site has lots of former extreme zealots - you may have read posts from many of them. I think they'll all tell you that he won't see the org for what it is until he is ready. But once he does, that zeal will work in his favor. That sense of being duped turns to rage and action.

My head shakes no, and my eyes go into a slow blink once or twice evertime I realize I'm reading another of these horror stories.

New Date for Armageddon?

i had an interesting chat with a jw on yahoo messenger yesterday.

of course, he was using "theocratic war strategy," at least at first, and pretended not to be a jw, but someone who was asking a lot of questions about them.

he opened the conversation by asking if i wanted to discuss 'the meaning of life'.

Did he have any suggestion as to how one could relate the Roman armies to a handful of rabid 20th century cave dwellers that flew some planes into some buildings?

Many may find this tedious (old-hat even), but I have always had a difficulty with the lag time between Adam's creation and that of Eve. See, if 1975 marks 6000 years of man's presense, and Eve's creation marks the end of the creative day, and we need 1000 years for the millenial reign, then either:

The Millenial Reign runs after the end of the 7th creative day, or
The Millenial Reign is less than 1000 years, or
Adam was created at the end of, but in the 5th creative day, or
A creative day isn't exactly 7000 years, or
?

The numbers are pretty straight-forward. Don't we all remember being told what a great 'Timekeeper' Jehovah was? I wish I had had the chance to put that ? to a JW apologist. Neon, I'm sure your JW defender feels he has developed a keen sense of logic by attending all those meetings, you know, instead of college and all that satanic book-learnin'. I remember feeling how superior my mode of logic was in those days.

Nicely assembled. When I first started 'reinvestigating' the JWs after having been out for a while, this was one of the topics that stunned me. I can tell you I've read some of those late 1990's quotes before and my jaw slackens at the sight of them. Nice of them to "acknowledge" that they haven't always seen it that way, huh?

But what amazes me is that they have deposited the 'generation' doctrine into the circular logic bin. It reads to me that they are saying that this generation of bad people will be around until there no more bad people - or is that a pointless truism (AlanF?).

To misquote Carl Sagan, 'after so much failed prophecy, it is amazing that they have any adherents at all.' It doesn't speak well of the thought processes of those still in.

Can you imagine being fooled by that crap? And pretty much all of us were, weren't we?

(Disagreements: start a new thread) When I first moved out here I felt like some people were on the verge of tears at a little sarcasm (sahcasm for us cool guys). Besides, you're probably not yourself now that Katie has left you.

I totally disagree that being delisted is the same as being DFd. Completely, utterly, universally different

Craig, Ok, there is the remote chance that sometimes I'm not as funny as I think I am. But saying he was DF'd was (supposed to be?) a funny.

Folks,

I posted a reply on MN's thread, after he was DF'd. In short, I thought we were a bit hasty. My reasons were that I thought the replies were no more incendiary than the rest of are allowed. Also, I found no vulgarity. Finally, I thought the replies were on topic - at least as close as we expect of everyone else.

Onacruse: I find it just as irritating when trying to engage a real conversation and you don't get a reply.

MN: I think you are feeling a backlash from times when we have needed a moderator's moderation in order to conduct normal conversation. But I also think it has been while since we had that kind of troll, and you were pounced on. Personally, I miss spirited discourse on this site that included active JWs. Not surprisingly, because the camps are so entrenched, that kind of back-and-forth is a bit rare.

How 'bout it folks? Am I off base here?
