I remember The Circuit gave the C.O. a car. His was almost four years old you see.
I brought up the fact that we JWs did not have a professional clergy (so we are taught) and that Paul had a profession. I might as well have been speaking Chinese.
does anyone else find it funny that the circuit overseers and district overseers go to a new congregation every week, have all their bills paid and then for some odd reason the elders always find a way to give them extra money.
on top of that there are atleast 10 families in every hall that give them a green handshake.
then the people who give them expensive gifts (i am ashamed to say i participated in this) like watches etc... yet these guys still act like they are giving up so much.... .

i'm wondering what you all think..
I adopted my daughter many years ago long after I left the dubbies She had (has) two biological sisters from her birth mother.
The two sisters were adopted to another family. Amazingly, they went to a Mexican JW family in Massachusetts. These girls left the family early, because dear old padre was molesting the prettier of the two. Damn JWs.
However, these kids in foster care or homes from which they must be removed need to go somewhere. They're in hell. On average, being adopted into a JW family is probably better than where they are coming from.
here is the promised debate.
the subject is whether or not god has an organization.
i'll start things simply:.
StandFirm: Is this your idea of a debate? You put out a straw poll as for a topic and select "1st century organization." Then you throw out a few scritpures from "Make Sure of All Things."
Please tell us you have more than that.

I agree with Mad Sweeney. Paul's direction to go forth and enforce seems more of an indication of a lack of organization. But such a scripture snippet is not conclusive.
Consider: Even if the 1st century folks organized, does it follow that that organization was "God's Organization?" Just because they collected together for emotional and/or financial support, does that mean god ordained it?
Even if so, please tell me how that translates to god selecting one teeny cult from the array of teeny numerology-based cults of the time, and calling that "His Organization?" It really doesn't follow.
ok, i'm one.
to those who do not know the term, it is a reference [from people from other us states], to discribe auto drivers from massachusetts.. dc.

hello to jwn!
this is standfirm.
i mainly post on the topix jehovah's witness forum, but i decided to give it a try over here also.
I'm with Farkel on this.
But just to play along to see where it goes: False Propehsy.
Do you really think you can defend all the dates that went by, without a rapture, or armageddon, or great tribulation, appearance of Christ, anything. Can you really defend the society's claims to the power of prophecy? ... and by the way, their later claim that they never claimed the power of prophecy?

after flipper's thread about the wt child abuse cases, i started to think about how many children i know of personally who have been sexually abused by a jw!.
as someone who is not especially 'in the know', it's amazing that i do know five of them.
one who was a small baby, at the time!.
Franklin MA cong.: 3 that I know personally:
1. MS that repeatedly raped his daughter. She eventually reported and he went to the can.
2. Daughter of a friend of mine. He reported it. Nothing (ok, ... not enough) happened. so he went to another hall. Pretty drastic, huh?
3. One more little girl. Nothing happened. It was never reported. The perp told me about it many years later.

Perry:
Isn't anyone going to attempt to explain irreducible complexity?
Okay, a few months ago I saw a documentary on this exact topic: the bacterias' outboard motor and it's irreducible complexity. You see, Perry, you fall for the intellectual weakness common to the religionists. You grab ahold of anything that sounds plausible and accept it for fact, though no counter arguments are accepted.
In this particular case, ID apologists fall flat. The structure is not irreducible. There are other organisms that use an almost identical structure. But in those other organisms the structure is missing the part(s) that enables rotation. I'll admit that I don't remember exactly what the simpler (reduced) structure is used for. The sciientist that presented this fact was convincing and had strong supporting exhibits.

quietlyleaving asked this of me on another thread:.
but snowbird i have to ask you why you disagree with affirmative action.
one of the best things about a policy of affirmative action is that an establishement is saying 'you are welcome here' to minorities and that 'we regret that we excluded you in the past'.. while i acknowledge the good that affirmative action has done, ql, i've also been a witness to its downside.. let me explain: i was once sitting for an examination for a state job, and i overheard a conversation between two other ladies who were also taking the exam.. one commented on how difficult the exam was; the other somewhat flippantly replied that it was ok if they didn't do their best because the state of alabama is an affirmative action employer.
Affirmative Action is wrong for 2 major reasons:
1. It solidifies racist thinking rather than breaking it down.
2. It takes away from those that never harmed and gives to those that were never harmed.
i thought i would open up a thread on firearms and shooting.
personally i was raised around firearms as my dad was not a jw.
some of my earliest memories are of my dad teaching me how to put a round in a fleas ass at 200 meters.
Justice One: I'll put in some Sporting Clays work this fall. But for now, almost exclusively Skeet.
My best score is 396 of 400. I won the Washington Championships with that one.
I see you are in CA. I shot a bit in the LA area this spring, at Prado Olympic (won that one) and Oak Tree in Newhall (just practice).
I recently bought a new Kreighoff K-80 that I am enjoying immensely (My wife says I 'had better enjoy it,' after what I paid for it.)
48 of 50 is a good trap score. Ever compete?
