when i got home today from work my wife showed me a 5 page letter from our oldest son.
he basically said he does not what anything to do with us because of all the wrong things we did as parents to him and his brother.
he blames us for not being there for him and we are toxic parents.
TotallyADD...hugs to you and your wife. Your reply was very good. No bitterness. Your son should notice that you make no excuses and do not try to justify anything. By the way, my older brother vented on my parents some years ago. He continues to be a good JW.
I like jgnat's advice. Do cry with your wife if you feel the need. Share this, as bad as it might feel. And, maybe your son needs to be mad and hurt for a while to sort this out for himself. Just be there as you are able.

i was listening to the horrible news about the tornado damage in oklahoma, and especially about the elementary school that collapsed and the kids that are feared to be trapped.
so this 72 year-old man was interviewed.
he said he wasn't afraid and had told his wife that the lord would protect them.
Este, It is the arrogance of "See me. I am fine. The Lord protecteth me and mine."
But let us say that GOD acted in this man's behalf. Very good indeed. What does that tell us about a GOD that lets the storm rage on most and protects a few here and there?

The storm blew parts of his house away but the bathroom where he and his were was spared. So this man says that the Lord protected them and that his trust is in the Lord and not in possessions.
Does anyone else see the total nonsense in this thinking? The Lord spares him and his wife but not others. Why? Who does he think himself to be that the Lord performs selective protection but otherwise lets the storm kill and harm everything in its path? This man has to see that his neighborhood is blown to smithereens. But the Lord was with them? Where and how? I'd like to pull his tongue out and tie it in a knot.

When I stopped attedning, I still believed in God, Jesus, and the Bible. I attended a few churches out of curiosity and rather liked some of the services. But now,I am not a beleiver in much of anything, other than humans just don't know. If that is any comfort to know that there are many more like yourself.
judging by the titles/themes of the talks , dramas ,new releases ,tracts,brochures , etc,.i dont think their was anything that would enthuse any witness to renewed activity.on the contrary i think it would demoralize you .their was nothing their to inspire a new convert let alone one who has been in for decades to keep on in service to this organization.
for arguments sake ,i was baptised in 1961 if i was still in , at this convention ,i would be asking ,when is the great tribulatin to begin?

I agree with the slow death model. Like any large corporation, the WT has reserves that will keep it afloat for many years, many years in that free labor keeps the corporate entity running on a day-to-day basis. If they had to pay taxes, that would be a killer. Even so, insurance on existing property, maintenance, and printing supplies require constant cash income. Same with assembly halls, they require constant use at near capacity and attendees willing to contribute.
The life blood of the WT is the constant contributions from its members. When paying member dwindle, so will the WT. I think that is already in progress.

was having a drink and chat with a witness freind of mine the other evening (he is an ms) and i got him on the subject of the candic conta case.he had not herd of the case i gave him the court wed site address and case number so he could look directy with out googling as i thought this would encorage him to at least have a go.
then i bought up the changes in the sheepherding the flock book prob due to the court case and i said to him thay where good changes but did not go far enough.
then he asked what book it was, i explained to him the book, then he said he would ask an elder freind of his to have a look for him self.
Humans are a curious sort. Now that he knows the book exists, my guess is that he will be tempted to look online. By the way, the WT Society is serious about copyright laws and will have online copies removed.

It really does depend on congregation size. My former congregation had about 90 publishers. We had, I am guessing, maybe 4-5 judicial matters per year. They seemed to come in spells. A bunch, then none for a while. At 4-5 per year, that would be 4-5% of the publishers had a judicial matter per year. Oftentimes it was a married brother and another married sister, so you get a 2 for 1. Not trying to be funny.

His elder friend "might" hold the book out and let him read a paragraph in question. The elder will not let him have hold of the book to read himself. Most likely he will not even let him see the cover of the book.
