I have one and it is amazing. It is a whole new computing platform. In 2 weeks they already have over 900 applications in the app store. This is huge. I have a Blackberry curve also and for email the Blackberry is still more efficient. But when it comes to web browsing or mobile computing the iPhone is a disruptive technology.

Let's Hear it For Simon -Thanks For This Board - And All it Accomplishes
by flipper ini think it's only appropriate to put out a thread to thank simon for the great job he does in moderating this board, watching over discussions to make sure that the purpose of jwd discussion stays focused .
i believe that he and the mods do a great job in helping this board along in it's journey - and enables us to have the freedom of speech- without having fear of reprisal - as long as the guidelines are met.
so, i for one would like to personally thank you simon - for bringing this board into existence, as it has helped many to be able to vent after leaving the jehovah's witnesses cult, and get support, and for others it has helped them have a great place to discuss many important topics that have a heavy play in many of our lives !

While Simon and I do not always agree I am very thankful to Simon for creating the board. I have met friends from here and the board has helped me in many respects.

expenses -vs- donations............. the fall of the Watchtower empire
by DaCheech inas long as i've been here, i have preached that $$$$$ will be the only way for the wt to drop.. many agree on a small level, but think the wt has deep pockets.. they may have deep pockets, but i bet the investments they have have lost quite a bit since 2001.. my main calculation reguards the following hypothesis::::::.
magazine and literature consumption -vs- donations.
i know of 2 congregations, and let me post some figures:.

No. But Mitochondrial Eve and Chromosomal Adam really mess up the Biblical nonsense arguments postulated by literalists of the Bible. Mitochondrial Eve traces our mitochondrial lineage back to our common female ancestor approx. 140,000 years ago (way more than 6,000 years ago when Biblical Eve was supposed to have lived) whereas Chromosomal Adam (also known as Y-Chromosomal Adam) traces back our Y chromosomal lineage back to our common male ancestor approx. 60,000 years ago (way more than the 4,200 years ago that Bible nuts think Noah lived).

The Real Culprit For Rising Oil Prices.???..and theres plenty of oil......
by chrisjoel inthis has been repeated over and over in the news but what the hell no one will do anything about these assholes...so one more time....its the speculators, the investors who ....."institutional investors such as hedge funds and sovereign wealth funds are pouring billions of dollars into not just oil but mamy commodities, distorting markets and driving prices to unprecedented levels.."...and chinese influence???
while that is a factor, it's only part of the story, said mr. masters, a portfolio manager for masters capital management llc.
he cited u. s. government data showing that while annual chinese demand for petroleum increased 920 million barrels over the past five years, demand from speculators has moved up 848 million barrels over the same period.

You can all spout all the Xenophobic crap from both sides. It doesn't change any facts about the price of oil.

It's called mass purchasing power. When we have commodity based ETFs and mutual funds the demand created by new investors in the funds causes the funds to have to purchase more and more contracts of the commodities - thus driving up the price further and further. Then as the net asset values of the funds increases it draws in further droves of new investors in the funds....and so it continues. When this occurs with stocks (instead of commodities) the price of the shares being invested in increases - but with little effect on anyone else. BUT when it happens to commodities the effects hit he prices of the physical commodities and thusly the ripple effect. Secondly, when funds buy stocks they have literally thousands to choose from. Not so with commodities. This in turn creates concentration (called focus) on the contracts of the commodities - further pushing up the price. This has created a dilemma for regulators - do they prohibit funds from purchasing commodities? That's a very slippery slope indeed. If you're still reading this...you're probably bored stiff so I'll call it quits here...Donkey
