Craig,
So people who hear voices? Are they sane or insane?
Jack
i haven't seen you posting here lately, and i just wondered if everything is ok?.
i've always considered you my best friend.
but lately i've been thinking about a lot of things, and it occurred to me: you've never said one word to me in my entire life, even though i've sent you thousands of messages; not exactly what friends do to each other.

.
this is probably a stupid question but can you set up a client server network with xppro or are you limited to simply peer to peer.
.
Jelly,
What are you trying to accomplish? Perhaps a stupid donkey can help...

If I said Fred was just taking his time getting back to me, and no one had ever seen Fred or been contacted by Fred and there was no forensic or scientific evidence that Fred existed...would you believe me if I could relate the history of Fred for hours on end?
If I said I loved Fred and he was like a father to me....would you then believe me?
Fred is dead.

are you happier since you've found this place?
if jwd were gone tomorrow, would you just look for another site to get involved with?
my opinion of this board is that it is one of the best boards to learn current information from.
IMHO it is not nearly as good as it once was...
That is either because some of the great posters of old have moved on or otherwise the utility function of JWD for me personally has diminished. I know we don't want to talk about it but IMHO the moderation has been inversely proportional to the quality of the content that is found here these days.
I find very few threads as interesting as I once did (perhaps that is me at fault though). I miss people like Norm and Janh who would write some really great posts.
Like the doctines of the WT, JWD for me has been dumbed down (that is just my opinion and not intended to be insulting though so please don't take it that way).
But its probably just me and the initial novelty of this place has worn off for me. On the other hand I am so glad I found this place because I realized for the first time that I was not alone in the way I saw the JW world.

.
what do you think would happen to the watchtower society if disfellowshipping were forcibly banned by government decree?.
think about the implications for current jw leaders personally, for the doctrinal structure, for the power structure.. this is no mere theoretical possibility.. alanf
Alan,
It is an interesting proposition.
Some are quick to quote the separation of church and state saying it violates religious freedom.
Conversely, when difellowshipping involves shunning those who DO NOT WANT to be a part of JW's - their rights are summarily violated. so it comes down to a prioritization of individual rights....whose are more important from a legal standpoint? Those forcibly shunned or those seeking to exercise "religious freedom", while fearing punishment of a similar fate by a sick cult.
The rights of families vs the rights of a coercive religion....who wins?
Jack
who here is polytheistic?
is jehovah just another god?
is he on a par with osiris / pan / cernunnos / whoever?.
Is Jehovah just another god? Is he on a par with Osiris / Pan / Cernunnos / whoever?
He is just another imaginary friend.
Are some gods "bigger" than others?
Only in the minds of the nutters who believe in them.
the national alliance for the mentally ill website defines mental illness as: mental illnesses are disorders of the brain that disrupt a person's thinking, feeling, moods, and ability to relate to others.
they further define schizophrenia as:schizophrenia is a brain disorder that interferes with a persons ability to think clearly, manage emotions, make decisions, and relate to others.
many people with schizophrenia have hallucinations and delusions, meaning they hear and see things that arent there and believe things that are not real or true.. doesn't this sound like some of the "faith"ful?

Swallow 3 bibles and call me in the morning.

That's the trouble with imaginary friends. No matter how much you like them, they never actually do anything outside of your fantasy. And one day you fall off your tricycle and realise that illusions wont help you crawl home.
What is worse is when the imaginary friends do talk back. Are they still imaginary then or are you just a nutter?
Who are crazier? Those with the mute imaginary friends or those with the chatterbox imaginary friends?
people have touched on this subject in other posts.....
i was just wondering ..... has there ever been anything good come about thanks to christianity?.
all i can think of is oppression, torture, hypocrisy, etc....... .
If I told you I believe in Orange Fairies with blue polka-dot wings....you would definitely say I am mentally ill
If I told you that I hear voices....you would say I am mentally ill
If I told you that God speaks to me...you would say I am likely mentally ill
You believe in God...only he does not talk to you so you are totally sane...nice going....you have convinced me that you are not mentally ill!!
