Are the witnesses less sincere today?
by freedom96 ini was ready larcs thread talking about the way it used to be.. started to think, as time has gone by, with all the changes the organization has made, are the witnesses less sincere today than they were perhaps 40 years ago?.
i was two when my mom got baptized, so all i knew growing up was the watchtower.
i remember some of the 70's, and all of the 80's.

Individuals are sincere but follow more closely the ever more micro-management elders - back in the 50's 60's muc of the promulgated "rules" had never been thought of - Judicial Coimmittees were as rare as Hens teeth - before the elder arrangement most in positions of some authority were balanced, mature and considerate - after 30 years of the elder arrangement the opposite is largely true - elders are appointees of the WT and obey orders, of which they get more and more each year. Any room for individuality has gone - toe the line or get out / be put out is the maxim today. Yes they are sincere but so was Saul when Stephen was stoned. Sincerity does not equal good or rightness - when you blindly follow every twist and turn of the PA machine from Brooklyn sincerity is irelevant - obedience is what counts now.

Are Jehovah's Witnesses REALLY Welcomed Here?
by minimus inin view of the fact that there are mostly ex-witnesses on this forum, the question is," are jw's truly welcomed here?".
it seems to me that if a poster supports the witnesses in any way, that they will know about it.

WHen I first visited the board I was an active witness - elder - PO etc etc I did not post or get involved in what I read but I did THINK about it - over time the board helped me settle in my own mind that what I had felt for some time (lack of love, pharisee attitude, doctrinal "bending" and many more where real issues which I had not blown up out of proportion and that it would be wrong for me to stay in somthing I could see was hypocritical and plain wrong. What disturbed me when I was an early visitor to JWD was vitriol poured out over the posts between ex-JWs (mainly) not an unwelcoming attitude to active JWS. I was concerned that the good I could see in the reasoning/logic of the board contents was masking the "raving mad apostates" This slowed my escape down quite a lot as I wondered if after all the WT was right and the attitude (of some not all - which was unpleasant at best - abusive at worse) proved that "those apostates" were demon inspired etc
Happily for me I saw in many of the posters decent people with a common heritage covering such things as destroyed families, damaged personalities in some cases, financial suffering from faithful JW following the official line etc etc etc. I do understand those (and am guilty of) forthright condemnation of the WT based on personal experience - it is nigh on impossible to just walk away and start all over again - the WT does have responsibility and posters rightly point out the errors. Yes overall the board is welcoming (to all) but I would just ask all to think of the effects of those wavering (as I was) when they burn the keyboards with over critical (of people not the WT) posts

What do you have to do when you know a pedo? I need your input.!!
by avengers ini have a question.
what do you have to do when you discover someone is a pedophile, someone confided in you, and you know it's true, and the whole picture comes together .
but beware!

carve 'pedophile' into his forehead with a sharp, clean knife,
why waste a clean knife - use a dirty jagged edge - best for his sort of work!

The number of victims a a true paedophile is never NEVER NEVER ONE
That was mine - not well written out - Lady Lee above has addressed this - my point should have been that a paedophile never only has one victim (actually from one abused person lots of others/relatives/friends are also victims) but simply stated - why would they do this once and stop! Such a person is a real and present danger - even after many years

Announcing that Elders are no longer Elders
by Spudinator inin the past year or so a local congregation has had several announcements that "so-and-so is no longer serving as an elder.".
one of these elders has served in the watchtower organization since the 1940's.
one thing apparent is the "organization's" lack of recognition and/or appreciation for its own.
-
core
It all down to that old chestnut - how tough is the local body of elders - I have known announcements that acknowledged the years of work of Bro X or Bro Y and applause from the cong - in congregations with genuine people serving as elders- I have also known the fridgid atmosphere that can fall when someone standsa aside for personal reasons - in congs with organisation men in charge
Getting so the only elders left are hard-line anyway so more of the formal "removal/deletion" announcements sadly

Law in the Netherlands requires anyone knowing of acts of child abuse to report it to the local Social Services who may or may not involve Police
Two people at least need help here - the victim, and the abuser
The victim does have moral rights to silence and may not want to have this issue brought into public play so as far as her identity goes you must decide what is best - as for your friend - you must have him reported so that a programme of remedial work can be put in place but more importantly he can be known to the authorities as a danger. The number of victims a a true paedophile is never NEVER NEVER ONE
The reported attitude of this person means he needs reporting as a protection to others - You have no choice morally here - report him and report him now. His cavalier attitude shows no repentance, lessening of the danger or remorse. Save others the fate of the young girl from years ago. Report him. Write to the Social Services anonymously if you want- they are duty bound to follow it up

Yes - working with Wilf Gooch who was British Branch Overseer - he was a kind, compassionate and deeply considerate brother - sadly not with us now and his sort in short supply these days but he was a true Pillar in the Congregation and privilege to have known
Working at Assemblies in pre/post convention work - it really was fun - again not now as anodised assemblies have removed the fun
Trips with the brothers / outings etc - happy days with decent people - Circuit Assemblies when the circuit hired various holiday cam sites (Bream Sands was one I recall) and everyone stayed in the chalets - many many years ago now

Nearly threw up when I read the anecdote re this child prodigy - what the h*** are her parents thinking off! Sickmaking in the extreme - as noted by others what a sad and socialy inept person this child will likely become - what toys does she have - the WT CDROM ?
Doubtless she revolts most who hear her story at the circuit assemblies etc as she will be paraded around like some pod-idol.
My advice to her parents - burn the books and buy her a Barbie (&KEN)
