..how do these elders have the time and energy to staake people out until all hours of the day and night ? ..if the HS is playing an active part in "keeping the cong clean" then the elders should be at home with families - some sort of sick minds to do this sort of thing - do they get thrills from this?

When will non-annointed men serve on the Governing Body?

nonetheless, little dogma is, from an organizational standpoint, in serious need of change -- except one.
for the society to continue any form of credibility with it's followers it will have to change it's understanding of who can lead the organization, in other words, who can become members of the governing body.

Haydn Covington was on the (then) GB as Vice-President - but stood down when "light" shon on the issue
Today the "helpers" of the other sheep run the day to day business - personally I think that regardless of the legal link between the GB and various legal entities that the old men still pull the strings - of course they must all die someday and doubtless some explanation will emerge to explain how this fits in with the pasy and that, as an example, the GB actually is now ruling FROM heaven thru other earthly representatives. Somehow they will cavort round the truth when the time comes - of course so many who would have questioned this have left / died themselves

elders almost had to negklect family to carry burden/take the lead etc etc - with cong responsibilities only one place for the time to come from - not work - but time that should have been spent on the family

So When and Why Did They Stop Feeding People At Assemblies?

the feeding of umpteen thousand using voliunteers was their "in" with all the local press.
i know that cafeterias were still in use in '72 when i left.

I think the reason was....money.........in the UK the Society were faced with having to pay VAT (value added tax) on food served/sold with a potentialy massive back-tax bill for previous years
Health & Safety were factors but I recall a leading bethelite commenting that we did not want to have to pay the government anything out of the proceeds - so move to "free" (donate but donate more) I seem to recall some experiements of free food being served ( I know it was tried in Germany were a similar sales tax rule applied) When the brothers at the top saw that they could get the donatioins with little work they "simplified" things (except in the Administration Suites werew goodies still were readily available.)

So How Does a Place Become A City In England?
by Englishman inwell, it has to have a cathedral in order to have city status.. the nearest city to weston s mare is the city of wells, about 35 minutes drive from here.. but, wells has a population of only 10,000 or so, one seventh that of wsm which is still rated as just a town.. wells is also the smallest city in england.
we've taken a few people there to visit, the last was joy and steve who both post here.
we visited there today with our nieces, here's some pics.

City status is in the Queens prerogative and does not require a Cathedral - last Royal Proclamation of City Status was as part of the Queens Jubilee (BTW Queens prerogative means Tony tells her!)

Every organization wants a good public image. I can't even say I'm much offended by the JW haters. But I think it is worthwhile to point out that some of the statements made on this forum are really mean spirited. Venting anger may relieve tension but it doesn't achieve any goal.
Yes - every organisation would want a good, clean image but the dilema to me is that the WT claims, in a variety of ways, superiority over all other organisations on this planet - this superiority should be evidenced by a superior standard - that is not what I see
Yes also, I am saddened at times to see pure JW hatred in posts on this board but can appreciate why some make such, yes they are venting anger but in every case different reasons add up to some cause which prompts them to pour out their JW hatred - not, again an assumption on my part, for the individual JW members, but for the organisation which directs them and claims moral superiority in all the earth yet evidences nothing different from the common herd of mankind. The process of leaving an organisation which has betrayed me and let me down (and likely so for many more) is one in which stages of anger, hatred, rage are parts, elements, of that process some can never leave such attitudes but others do move on to calmer waters. Yes mean spirited some comments may be and I think such serve no purpose in exposing the WT but I can understand those who feel moved to make such comments. Not all are literally capable of making a coherent argument relating to their own disappointments at the hand of "the organisation" yet this does not diminish the quality of their feelings/responses etc.
The so called "murder letter" betrays to me an attitude of hypocrisy - it does not provide a scintilla of evidence of God's blessing on the organisation behind it and as such it is not surprising that so many hurt ones are outraged at such double standards.

Suppose someone tells you he committed a murder. Does that in fact mean he really did kill someone? People may imagine they killed someone. Suppose you inform the authorities that a person confessed to a murder. Later the person says he didn't and then accuses you of slander?
No it does not mean he actually commited a murder but the circumstances, etc should help a mature person make a mature decision. Reporting such a confession to elders COULD get you in trouble if the individual denies what he told you - however with the Police - any honest approach will not give grounds for the individual to allege slander.
You appear hurt that so many take this direction from the WT as an indication that they put the image of the Organisation first, above all else. This does amaze me
