http://copyrightservice.co.uk/copyright/p01_uk_copyright_law is a place to start "Fair Dealing" and "to a certain degree" are the buzz phrases here and if you had a site with little else but quotes from WT (or anyones elses) published material then you could be construed as in breach of copyright - Fair dealing is a term used to describe acts which are permitted to a certain degree without infringing the work, these acts are: Private and research study purposes. Performance, copies or lending for educational purposes. Criticism and news reporting. Incidental inclusion. Copies and lending by librarians. Acts for the purposes of royal commissions, statutory enquiries, judicial proceedings and parliamentary purposes. Recording of broadcasts for the purposes of listening to or viewing at a more convenient time, this is known as time shifting. Producing a back up copy for personal use of a computer program. Playing sound recording for a non profit making organisation, club or society. (Profit making organisations and individuals should obtain a license from the Performing Rights Society.)

Inheritance and Ex JW children
by greendawn inwe all know how disfellowshipped or disassociated children get treated by their jw parents, that they are totally shunned.
but what happens when it comes to family inheritance do they get treated fairly or do they get a lesser share or in extreme cases perhaps nothing at all?
and would jw parents that have no children left in the wts choose to give everything to the org?

Not knowing ALL the circumstances I caveat this reply with the note that this in not a definitive judgement on this matter and that I have no position to make such but feel the need to make some points.
As a JW Elder you had a position of responsibility and responsibility to your wife (and children ?? relatives)
You chose to run off with a young girl (who you only knew because of her faith) and engage in immorality and seem amazed that a JC should disfellowship YOU as everything should be OK as you were "sorry" (what for ? - ) I have more than most peoples hate for the WTS but cant see how in this matter they did not do what anyone associated would expect - I sat on a JC years ago which disfellowshipped a person for paedophile acts - his response when told the decision was to demand to know why HE was being disfellowshipped as HE was sorry and that was all right - yes disfellowshipping is not for any names offense but for 1 of 2 thing - lack of true repentance (works that befit repentance) and or to protect the congregation.
Elders cannot judge repentance (how could they?) so in your case I would (if still associated) be appalled if they had not disfellowshipped you as the old old chestnut of being sorry does not wash - how many broken mariages and wives/husbands have been destroyed by a conniving partner who was then "sorry" - but in time seemed to get their own way and a new (younger) partner ?
I make these comments not to cause hurt but to make a point that self righteouseness and hypocrisy hurt others as well - I see no comment in your post re the hurt done to others - the consequences of your actions were well known to you - you chose your course and it would be proper to accept your responsibility for the outcome - yes - some (most) elders are insensitive and uncaring but in the situation as I understand it here you put your own head on the block knowing the outcome.

Presiding Overseer Says They Will Ask If You Still Want To Be A Jehovah's W
by minimus inthe local needs talk on thursday discussed a few different things, according to my mom.
but the one that stood out most was that he announced that based on the new book, the elders will be checking on those that have not been associating with the congregation for some time.
they will ask, "do you still want to be a jehovah's witness?
-
core
"Do you still want to be a Jehovah's Witness?" ..then I would reply that it is a matter for Jehovah to judge, not me or them and that any consequences og them deciding the matter would be expensive to local elders as they would have to personally fron their defence to defamation and other actions I would readily institute against them personally

Everyone deserves a funeral....surely!!!!
by Gill ini haven't posted much recently on the site but wanted to tell you about something bad that has happened.. some of you will remember me posting about my husbands very elderly grandfather.
we wanted to take him in to live with us when he was diagnosed with mild dementia but my husbands parents insisted that he go into a care home and conned him into signing an epa.
there reason for not allowing this lovely old man to live out his days with us was that their responsibility was to consider his 'spiritual needs' and since we no longer went to meetings we could never look after him ...so they stuck him, against his will, into the home.

One moral of this tale is to beware of signing an EPA (enduring power of attorney) as if at some time you do lose your faculties the person granted the EPA can do anything they like as long as they have registered the EPA with the Court of Protection - when making an EPA you can define exactly what your attorney has or does not have the power to do on your behalf. As a byline in the UK I would suggest that all married couples, who, either one or both of them have individual (not joint) bank accounts, grant an EPS to their partner so that they will be able to access funds if cases of any emergency.

Would the W.T. be open for massive lawsuits if they changed blood policy?
by hubert ini was just thinking of this, because of my last post topic.
if the watchtower changed their no blood policy to accepting whole blood, would and could that .
open the flood gates for law suits from jdubs that sacrificed their children for the tower, or would .

Re change in "automatic disfellowshiping" for "misues of blood" - some few years back the elders were informed (in the UK) that the need to disfellowship anyone over the blood issue was not needed as the individual had clearly by their actions disassociated themselves.
The Human Rights Act is European Union Law - covering all the member states of the EU (former common market) it has succeeded only in achieving things it was never intended to address ( the original Act was aimed at major abuse of the rights of the individual by the State) its main aim being to achiebve such notable own goals as awarding a convicted paedophile compenstation because his court case took so long to reach court! The UK Conservative Party have pledged to review Britains involvement in the Human Rights Act (used also to allow Gypsies to override planning laws on a wholesale scale) - anything is seen as infringing the Human Rights of the Criminal with little thought for victims - the whole thing is a farce and would have no bearing on any JW and the blood issue as the defence would always be the free will of the individual concerned and lack of "compulsion" or enforcement - the Court of Human Rights sits in The Hague and comprises judges from each member state of the Treaty creating it - all in all its a good reason for the UK to leave the EU
Quote relates to religious freedom of groups under the HRA
13. - (1) If a court's determination of any question arising under this Act might affect the exercise by a religious organisation (itself or its members collectively) of the Convention right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion, it must have particular regard to the importance of that right.

From what I have heard the Friern Barnet purchase was a block of low rise flats for the French workers, who came with the press from France when the WT intended to rebuild the London Bethel somewhere further North (Milton Keynes/Northampton) but those plans were dropped long ago due to the presses returning (I think) to France, along with the French workers. From what I heard the entente-cordial was not very cordial when the different cultures worked together. WT Britain owns significant property in the Mill Hill area which is worth potentially millions but of course cannot be capitalised unless they moved from there ( lots of the local residences owned by the WT as well as Watchtower House & IBSA House)
Reports I have heard ( and a look at the Charity Commission reports for a number of individual congs) show a marked decrease in donation receipts both by the local congs and by the central branch structure. Downsized congregations clearly playing a big part in the reported drop.
However the last reports I saw for the various UK "charities" indicated no shortage of funds - also the clear involvement of ther Governing Body, who hold no legal sway, is an interesting point - would they guarantee my overdraft -? would the bank accept their word ? Of course not - so why would the Charity Commission accept the guarantee of solvency made by faceless, poverty bound old men?

Blair and the other champaigne socialists
by Simon in.
just one of the reasons i despise the man.
like the rest of the bunch of hypocrites they have abandoned all the ideals that they once claimed to have and are now more than happy to have their nose in the trough.. for all the criticism of thatcher (who transformed the country from the tatters it was left in under labour) they have made things much, much worse in terms of difference between rich and poor.. notice too how labour donators seem to have particularly done well, as has mrs blair - her latest contribution sapping money from local education and giving it to fundamentalist muslims in bogus human rights legalities.. http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/news/article.html?in_article_id=398578&in_page_id=2.

Sadly Simon where is the alternative to Blair and his cronies (was wonderful to see him squirm on TV the other day when the NHS problems were shoved under his nose) - the Tories have no policies that will win for them - the Lib Dems don't stand a chance
Also think you are forgetting that under the fragrant Margaret we had what many ( me included) call 18 years of Tory misrule -division and strife again with only the top layer of society gaining - remember the Poll Tax? As for putting the country back on its feet - not sure how she did that - what industry have we left COAL ? No thanks to Margaret - STEEL _-No thanks to Margaret - FISHING No thanks to Ted (Heath) - sadly only lesson the failed Blair Revolutions has shown me is that all politicians are the same - self-serving creeps with no principles and an army of cronies. Whatever happened to REAL characters in politics - men / women with some backbone - Attlee after the War, MacMillan, Heseltine, Healey and others later on - sadly the coming election holds all the promise of more patronising from the elite as we are viewed as mere electoral fodder - think it about time that the Middle Class (in no elitist sense) stood up for themselves / likewise the pensioners - and said enough is enough - govern for US not yourselves
