  i want you to know that you have destroyed a family because of your lies about jehovah and his organization.

  a family member went apostate and has turned his back on jehovah.

  he told us he is never coming back and i know he went and visited internet sites.

  How very sad!!! Who in their right mind needs to keep a track and chart of service hours/report stats ?? What a waste of some developers time creating this. Any saddo who uses this sort of thing is potentially clinically insane. Am I glad to be out of the mad house!!

  for the first time last night i came across information about 586 being the actual year jerusalem was destroyed.

  pardon me for saying but dont you think that is a touch exaggerated ? where is your proof for this absolutism ? you agree with yourself of course but that proves nothing - as the old Ministry School Guidebook stated "..an argument is not proved simply because you state it...."

  Also you are rather liberal with the (presumably insulting) tag "apostates" - whatever happened to your Christian manners - cant recall Christ ever used the term....but then I am sure you will tell me if I am wrong.............

  I was in Scotland (Dundee) a while back (late 90's) and it seemed to me that orange soda was incredibly popular

  ..now in Scotland the drink would be Iron Brew - made from girders as the adverts say.....tastes like...well iron...you either love it or hate it but millions of bottles sold North of the Border

  Raising money for a new KH

  some time ago our kh became to small for 3 congregations so money was raised to find land to build a new kh to acommodate all of us.

  the money raised from the jw members and the sale of the old kh would pay for what was needed.

  well, the brothers searched and searched and couldn't find land anywhere so they claimed.

  Re the issue of CO flats attached to KHs - some 6 or so years ago the policy changed (in the UK) so that no more KHs would have flats build in them - I was told that this was for security reasons - attacks on the KH were expected and the CO wife would often be "home alone" and at risk

  The congs all took out Insurance with individual insurance companies prior to the 90s - then the congs were "encouraged" to stop this and send the money to the society to go in a pot to cover insurance for the entire globe - the reason given was that in some places in the UK and in many places in the world - congs could not get an insurer to cover the KH and with a worldwide contribution arrangement we could "level out" the cover arrangements. The result was that payouts for claims were discouraged and congs made to get by with minor repairs/clean ups after floods or whatever - the Society did have some re-insurance to cover itself but in reality the scheme was another way of getting money out of congs - at the time I questioned this and raised my concerns that elders could not have meetings in KHs without Public Liability Insurance - and assurances from the WTS that we need not worry etc would not cover us in court in case of any claim - as usual I was branded a troublemaker and lost some privileges in the circuit arrangement.

  Over time the circuit flat/circuit car/district car/circuit expenses all were used to raise more than would be needed to cover the costs involved - also around the same time congs were "encouraged" to change loans given the society (at nominal interest) to loans at NO interest - another dilema for elders who legally have an obligation to the charity (the cong) in which they serve and NOT the WTS - my complaints agin led to more grief for me and others of like mind

  ...and I know the difference between logic and conjecture. Re the Tape of this so called overseer - never heard it - not interested - I do not rely on it to prove to me or others what the WTS said/taught re 1975

  As said earlier - I was there - an elder - the PO - and know how the society made much of the date in a variety of means

  If you can read the Kingdom Ministry articles urging people to sell homes/leave jobs etc to pioneer before the end and then say they did not promote this date then logic will never work.

  Regarding the hypocrisy of buying in advance stadium bookings and equipment etc - nothing odd there - the society has always said it will carry on business until the Tribulation interupts - back around 1914 similar arrangements made for assemblies which should have been impossible as the end was night (as with earlier dates as well)

  It is amazing that more did not leave after failed expectations - but society craftily carried on and ignored any attempt at an apology for some years - hoping the furore would go away (see Crisis of Conscience for info on this)

  YES the Society did promote the date 1975 as the end - it did encourage people to mortgage away their lives to that date

  Re 1975

  The Society did teach that this would be the end...in a Circuit Visit (to all congs worldwide) some few years earleir, COs gave a special talk on the Saturday evening (to which only cong members were asked) - in that outline talk the CO reviewed the "reasons" why it WOULD be 1975 - all related to Adams Creation/Creation of Eve/Conception of first human baby etc etc

  At every opportunity a fever pitch atmosaphere was created in which people were actively encouraged to sell all they had and pioneer in the "last few months" -

  Why did so many stay after being disappointed - I suppose because with so much invested its difficult to just walk away....and we were led to believe it was only a matter of months out in any calculation so we should just hold on and preach.....

  During the 60s and 70s I was an adult servant/elder/PO so was fully aware of what was said and the import placed on it

  Never ever shop at Comet

  .

  i went to comet yesterday and bought a new tv, it cost 1300 so ofcourse we handled it with utmost care all the way home.. when we got it home we took it out of the packaging to discover a huge crack all the way down the screen.. so i phoned up the customer service helpline and was put through to the store we bought it from, and spoke to the most unhelpfullest people on the planet, they denied all responsibility but eventually agreed to send an engineer round to fix it tomorrow.. then today i got a phone call from their repair department saying that the engineer was booked in error and that i should contact phillips, the makers of the tv.. so i phoned phillips and they said i should contact the store for a refund or exchange.. so i just phoned the store back and spoke to one of the muppets from the office who again denied it was their fault and said she will speak to the repair department again and call me back.. does anyone know what i can do about this or what i'm entitled to?

  Simon is right - the law recently changed and any relationship in this contract is between you and the retailer (comet) you simply ring and say you are rejecting the goods as unfit for the purpose - you will not accept a repair and require a full refund or a replacement of a NEW/UNOPENED item the same as purchased - the onus is on COmet to prove you caused any damage - which given that you transported the item home in the original packaging will be nigh on impossible for them - also tell Comet you expect all your transport costs/telephone costs reimbursed - your rights under the law. Make a diary note of all calls re this for future reference

  You have no obligation to use any manufacturers "Guarantee" as the first point of redress is the retailer and you must stress to Comet you hold them responsible and will not be fobbed off with repairs/the manufacturers etc

  If no response ring the local Trading Standards dept at your council who will put a rocket up Comet

  Usual suits at law for copyright breach etc are based on monetary loss of the Plaintiff - as the WT "gives" its literature (all the "quotes") FREE OF CHARGE how can they claim any loss/damage - the statement of claim is somewhat odd in my eyes although prepared by top specialist lawyers - it covers apparent defamation of the WT brand, attempts to deceive the reader by metatags (neither involving copyright breach) as well as dealing with the element of quoting outside of what the plaintiff considers is fair use - seems that any reasonable trial judge would look at the mish mash of issues and dismiss most out of hand as irrelevant to the central claim
