I love the two tracts that ask a personal question, "How do you view ... ?" and then tell YOU what your opinion should be!!!

I have just published my first book. ( consequences to follow )
by sieborg ini stopped going to the meetings last september and told them that i didn't want to be badgered.
to be fair, they have not visited or called in nine months, apart from passing on their hello's to my wife and daughter who still attend.
anyhoo, i have had a fair amount of time to do pretty much what i have wanted over the past 9 months and so i have just finished my book.

My chat with 2 Dubs yesterday about UN membership
by jookbeard ini live close to a resonanbly busy street, 20 odd shops banks, a train station,a couple of cafes and coffee shops etc and usually see dubs doing street work close to the station and i'm now on nodding terms with an elder who is out most days of the week and have got close to recognizing most of the hard core of about a dozen of them , i was walking out of the cafe yesterday to be greeted by a couple of newbies i'd never seen before , a scruffy short dumpy man and a fairly well presented middle aged lady, i'll try and abridge the conversation as best as i can, we must have chatted for about 15 minutes and it was all in a good mannered style;.
me " have you sold many of those this morning ?".
jw guy " oh no we dont sell them we give them away for free" (like i didn't know that).

Data-dog: What's the official logical fallacy here?
There's no particular "logical fallacy." This is just simply a hypocritical lie and political double-talk.
- It's ok when the WTBTS does it, but wrong when every other religion does it.
- The GB of JWs had a good reason for being a NGO of the UN, but everyone else has a bad reason.
This is just good old-fashioned self-justification, rationalization and hypocrisy.
No logic involved or required; in fact, it's highly discouraged!

The Quiet One: Which other religions have been/are associated as an NGO of the UN's DPI?
My goodness, can you not Google?
Here, in a 2012 article published in the The Journal of Humanitarian Assistance (Tufts University) is the info you asked about:
Of the 3,183 NGOs with consultative status at ECOSOC, 320 can be characterised as religious.
Religious affiliation Number of organizations Percentage of all religious NGOs
=================================================================
Christian 187 58.4 %
Muslim 52 16.3 %
Jewish 22 6.9 %
Buddhist 14 4.4 %
Hindu 3 0.9 %
Spiritual 25 7.8 %
Multireligious 11 3.4 %
Other religions[23] 6 1.9 %
=================================================================
Total 320 100 %

Blondie is absolutely right that the WTBTS did not join the UN.
They can't because they are not a nation.
But let's not miss the point: No religion can "join" the UN. They can only affiliate as a NGO. This is exactly what the WTBTS did. They were associated for about a decade in exactly the same way as all the other religions which the WT condemns for doing so.
There is a word for this. It's called "hypocrisy."
That ends our lesson for today boys and girls. Thank you and good night!

Ilovebirthdays: The first thing I thought when I saw this thread title was that they're putting this out to try to give hope to the many that have children that have long left. False hope, indeed.
Of course, you're absolutely right.
It sure isn't for the ones that have left. I mean, how would we even know? Except of course by reading it here on JWN! ...

A new " Research Guide for Jehovah Witnesses " - wow! How exciting!!!
It will, I'm sure, ONLY include references to material published exclusively by the WTBTS, no outside sources. And of course, it will NOT include any WT material that is out-of-date or in any other way inconsistent with Present Truth.
So that means it will have a shelf-life of ... well, not every long. But since it's apparently an on-line resource, the WTBTS will be able to revise it whenever the need be to keep up with "revealed truth."
How happifying! It is from Jehovah and it is wonderful in our eyes!

LG: But I think its also designed to try to give false hope to long time JWs who have kids that have left the religion.
False hope is the stock in trade of the WTBTS. It's the only kind of hope they have to give.
