  Service meeting video....what a non-event

  at our service meeting we saw the video of a jw explaining his beliefs about 1914.. it was.....well, "underwhelming" does not do it justice.

  what is below "underwhelming"?

  Sir82, The odd thing was, it took the JW 7 minutes to go through his spiel, and he didn't even mention:

  1) How 607 BCE was determined

  2) How 2520 years was determined

  How could they possibly get to 1914 without those two points???

  'Search' function doesn't show thread dates in results

  simon, if you use the search function for a topic or word, you cannot separate out the latest threads on a particular subject from the oldest.. if i wanted to read the latest threads and discussion on the subject of, say, 'generation' i get a huge list of threads with that word in the heading or contents but i cannot tell how old each thread is unless i actually open up the thread.

  i don't want to be reading threads that are 5 or 10 years old on a subject like that.. can the date of the threads be shown in search results please.

  also, can a function be added to order results chronologically, from newest to oldest.

  This weeks service meeting! More craziness.....

  so this weeks service meeting is so full of "crazy".

  a whole 15 min part devoted to trying to indoctrinate everyone on how to "explain our beliefs on 1914".

  then another 15 min part called "a tool to help us explain our beliefs about 1914".

  The term "cult" is problematic as it is highly connotative and emotionally charged.

  Here's Merriam-Webster's definition:

  cult

  noun, often attributive \ ˈ kəlt\

  : a small religious group that is not part of a larger and more accepted religion and that has beliefs regarded by many people as extreme or dangerous

  We can all imagine that JWs would apply that to many OTHER groups but never themselves.

  I like Steven Hassan's BITE Model of Cult Mind Control. He developed this as a means to identify any high-control, destructively authoritarian group.

  Read the list as see if it applies to JWs. I think you'll find that the JW religion exhibits most of the behaviors on Hassan's list.

  If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's a duck.

  The corollary is: If it acts like a cult, it's a cult!
