WT Society Makes Light of Child Abuse Crimes by Portraying them as Cartoons
by flipper ini commented on this on another thread- but i believe this has enough importance to create a thread about this situation in and of itself.
at the current district convention as you know the wt society released a " sophie & caleb " video allegedly warning parents about the dangers of child abuse.
they don't really use the words " child abuse " in the video - but just say if " someone tries to touch you in a manner you aren't comfortable with " and portray it as a cartoon !

Cappytan, yeah, I thought that was a very odd remark too. No context but obviously deliberately inserted in response to something.
Great video clip putting ToMo's public propaganda up against Richard Ashe's private and under oath testimony.
NOTE: I think you should put in a text notice saying when and where Richard Ashe was making this comment as well as the other elder. A lot of people won't know the circumstances.
That comment just further proves that this whole video is designed to make it appear that they are proactive in dealing with the pedophile problem, but it's a miserable fail primarily for two reasons:
- The fail to explicitly acknowledge the problem that exists WITHIN the organization, and that many pedophiles IN the organization have been men serving as ministerial servants and elders, some even continuing to serve for years after allegations of child abuse have been leveled at them.
- The have failed to change their policies to require mandated reporting by congregation elders.

By now you might have heard, the 2014 Annual Meeting is over. One of the more interesting developments that has been leaked is that there will be a new TV.JW.ORG.
While details have yet to be released, one JWN member in attendance earlier today said this, "TV.jw.org will have on demand videos and gb talks once a month."

My thoughts on the RC 2015
by StarTrekAngel inhaving endured three days of dashing attempts at further indoctrination, i feel the need to write up some of the stuff i left with.
it is just good therapy.. right away the change was noticeable in the air.
the assembly hall in la feria, tx still smells like new.

this kind of scriptural error is the direct result of superficial bible reading.
according to luke 21, first comes the persecution then the wars, earthquakes, food shortages, fearful sights etc.

Flipper, I hear your anger and understand it. That being said, it's not a bad thing to educate children to say "No!" to anything that makes them uncomfortable and to tell their parents about it.
The thing that infuriates me about this is that ToMo's entire propaganda piece failed to acknowledge the problem with pedophiles INSIDE the organization and the fact that WT/JW policies, practices and culture provides a haven for them.
His statement that victims "should never be discouraged from reporting the incident [abuse] to the appropriate authorities" sounds good to those not familiar with JW culture.
The real question is this: Why aren't they ENCOURAGED to do so?
Elders should NOT be involved in cases of real or even suspected child abuse. They should be mandated reporters and turn the issue over to people that are properly trained to deal with it.
