Cofty: Am I not right in saying that Canada is part of North America which is made up of Canada and the USA?
Well, you obviously left out Greenland and Mexico. And according to many geologists/geographers, you should also include Central America and the Caribbean.
And so, to include most of the 40 - 50 countries of the Americas:
- Antigua Barbuda
- Bahamas
- Barbados
- Bermuda
- Cuba
- Dominica
- Dominican Republic
- Grenada
- Guadelupe
- Haiti
- Jamaica
- Martinique
- Netherland Antilles
- Puerto Rico
- St. Kitts & Nevis
- Trinidad and Tobago
- U.S. Virgin Islands
- Belize
- Costa Rica
- El Salvador
- Guatemala
- Mexico
- Honduras
- Nicaragua
- Panama
- Argentina
- Bolivia
- Brazil
- Chile
- Colombia
- Ecuador
- French Guyana
- Guyana
- Paraguay
- Peru
- Suriname
- Uruguay
- Venezuela
- there are more ... the list is long (did someone say the Falkland Islands?)

TGND: justifications for "civil disobedience" are really only in the eye of the beholder aren't they?
By definition, yes. But many others may agree and that's historically one way that unjust laws have been changed.
TGND: ... violation of copyright is illegal ...
Now you're getting it.

Simon: "civil disobedience" isn't a let-off or an excuse for any crime. It's really the notion that people are willing to break the law and accept the consequences of their action in order to highlight a cause (and possibly change the law).
Exactly!
Well said, Simon, well said.

My dilemma
by Saltheart Foamfollower ini have a bit of a dilemma that i would welcome advice on from the forum.. a brother in my congregation is giving evidence of having woken up - his comments and talks are usually slanted towards topics discussed here.
he is a former elder and is part of a group of other former elders and ministerial servants who i regularly overhear using terms i would expect to hear from ones knowing ttat.
he is a quite an effective teacher and will probably influence some.. however, in the past he has caused lots of problems for myself and others who i like (including another poster to this site who i have identified) and continues to be someone who i dislike intensely on a personal level.. his comments have been noticed by the body of elders and he is being watched.

Thank you GrreatTeacher, that is beautifully said, especially in light of all that you're going through right now.
How are your mom and dad doing?

TGND: Both are equally wrong legally despite anyone's spin on morals or ethics.
I, of course, completely disagree.
Have you never heard of civil disobedience?
As I posted on another thread in reference to the question about downloading copies of Shepherd the Flock of God or other WTBTS publications which are not intended for general public distribution:
Doing so is a copyright violation.
When I do that, I KNOW I am breaking a law. I am doing it deliberately and with full and complete comprehension of the possible consequences. For me it is an act of civil disobedience, albeit a relatively small one.
Considering all of the things that my involvement with this religion has done to bring irreparable damage to my life, my family relationships and those of countless other, I have absolutely no compunction at all in breaking this law in respect to them, but only to them.
Normally I like your posts, TGND, and generally agree with them, but you really missed the boat on this one.
Let's review: It's a cult!
TGND: Obliette, this post doesn't muddy the issue.
BTW, ironically enough, you left the "u" out of my name. It's Oubliette. Spelling counts.

Speculation by Oubliette: Damage control. Theocratic warfare in reverse.
I didn't believe it then and I don't believe it now. NFW.

SBF: Plus sometimes I think my story sounds fantastic and who would believe it anyway.
We would. Everyone here has demonstrated that propensity to believe the unbelievable!
Seriously, now your just teasing us. Completely unfair.
