Jws and urban myths!
by Julia Orwell injws sure love urban myths.
the jws have their own collection built up over many years, part of their own unique worldwide jw culture.
i've come across the same ones in america that i've heard in australia, and they pass from legend to myth and finally reality as quoted from the platform.

Watchtower tricks and deceptions
by slimboyfat inone of the first things that shocked me when learning the truth about the truth was how the organisation uses tricks and deception to fool their own membership.
i guess we all have our own favourite examples, like the quotes in the publications that make outside sources look like they oppose the trinity/support the nwt/disprove evolution, when in context the intent of the original source is quite different.
or the grossly exaggerated experiences delivered at conventions: if we happen to know the person or were present at the events described we know it's often garbage what they say on stage, more closely resembling a desired script emanating from headquarters than anything that actually happened to real witnesses in the circuit or district.

I had only heard of the Il Piccolo example before.
The WTBTS will go to great lengths to produce more propaganda about itself.
It never ceases to amaze me!

So apparently I'm now a Secular Humanist
by Oubliette ini was doing some research on the subject of beliefs and belief systems when i came across an on-line survey/test that supposedly helps you determine which religion or philosophy is most like your current beliefs.
if you're curious, you can take the quiz here: belief system selector quizafter answering the 20 questions the results were spit out!
tada!!!.

Wow, some great responses. Thanks to all of you for sharing your results. It's interesting that so many different results came up first, but very telling that JWs came up last for most of us.
Remember, it's only for entertainment value. I wouldn't put too much stock in it.

How to teach TTATT from the inside?
by man oh man inhello all, just wanted to compile a list of tricks and techniques on witnessing to others for us on the inside, especially those of us that still give talks.
do you have a tried and tested way of doing this or do any have some ideas?
how can we plant seeds from the platform without being obvious?.

SIAM: "Why did it take the Faithful slave 94 years to figure out who they really are? It seems like if Jesus appointed them in 1919 he would have made it clear then, and not wait almost 100 years. That doesn't make any sense"
It was actually only 93 years, remember that this "New Light" was first announced last year at the Annual Meeting on October 6th, 2012 and then posted on jw.org on November 9th, 2012.
Not that this really makes much of a difference. It's just good to get our facts straight when pointing out the fallacies of WT "Theology."

Now I don't put too much stock in these on-line quizzes. They're not much different than the ones your wife takes in Cosmo that gets you into trouble because you're NOT the perfect man. Nevertheless, if you take them with a grain of salt, there is a certain amusement factor.
What was surprising was this: of the 27 religions/belief systems to which my responses were apparently compared, my responses were most unlike those of Jehovah's Witnesses. That's right, JW beliefs came in dead last, right behind Roman Catholicism at #26.
Interesting!
Your mileage may vary.

mrsjones5, why do you consider those sci-fi shows as silly?
Ok, the helmets in Battlestar Gallactica were pretty ridiculous, but other than that they were serious shows.

Maybe I am a little dense, but I just realized...
by DATA-DOG inthe wtbts teaches that, " the soul that is sinning..will die.
" this was re-hashed in the what is truth talk at the dc.
so i got to thinking about the wtbts's doctrine.

Soul Sleep is in fact the ONLY doctrine that JWs still accept from Russell's time! And, as gingerbread correctly observed, he stole that from the Adventists.
While JWs currently still teach the Gentile Times ended in 1914, this meant something completely different to ol' Charlie T. Russell.

Using the word Father far more intimate than saying Jehovah?
by BU2B inthis was one of the things i thought about while i was beginning to think for myself.. who has the more intimate relationship, the coworker of a man who calls him by his first name, or his child who calls him dad, or papa?.
all the emphasis jws put on jehovah blinds them to this simple truth.
what if one of us walked up to our father and said, hey bill!

I know my father's name, but I still call him DAD and I'm middle aged!
