i have not yet read this book, but it should be interesting:.
"the better angels of our nature: why violence has declined", steven pinker.. the publicity blurb states:.
"believe it or not, today we may be living in the most peaceful moment in our species' existence.
I'm about 1/2 way through it. It's a fun and entertaining read, but massive in scope. Some of the middle chapters have a lot of data to wade through, but most of it is pretty accessible.
Pinker has a very straightforward way of writing that I really enjoy.
His plain talk bashing of the religion in general and the Bible in particular is refreshing for it's candor. He really destroys the myth that Jehovah is a God of love.
hey folks......has anyone else heard of, or experienced this before?.
i visited by parents over the weekend and accompanied them to their assembly....same rubbish spoken about since ive been born....obey the gb, donate your last penny, no education and be a pushover.. anyways, our assembly hall has lush vegetation and scenery, so i was more focused on that....i started dozing off after lunch, so got up and went walking, saw some older folks from the congregation i grew up with.. upon the conclusion of the assembly, wed normally leave out right after the prayer ends so as to avoid the traffic.
however, for this assembly he told me that hes gonna be a few minutes with the elders and branch representatives...so a few minutes turned into an hour..

Interestingly, once a person no longer filters everything in the Bible through the filter of "it's inspired" it becomes easy to see it for what it really is.
That being said, the biblical Jesus was one messed up person.

shouldnt use the event as a type.. splane summed up his talk by saying if the bible is silent - we must be silent.. but they go right on celebrating the 100 years from 1914 which was determined by improperly.
going beyond anything written in the bible about nebuchadnezzars tree dream.. the bible specifically refers to the immense tree as representing nebuchadnezzar.. daniel explained it and that should be the end of the matter.. .

FTS, yeah, I also thought about the account of the money changers, but they were NOT his disciples.
Jesus was allegedly quite direct with anyone that he thought was a hypocrite, but not with his disciples; at least according to the Bible. (Which, by the way, I don't personally believe.)

/from reliable sources (brothers in position within the congragation) i've been informed that in two different location within the uk congragations are to be consolidated .these men are loyal to the society and have no contact with ex-jw community .many brothers and sisters within these 4 congragations are devasted and undertantably very upset .one of these congragation has in excess of 150k in the bank currently "held" by the society as a loan .do you have any more information on this ?
is this just a one off or a new trend ?.

Dissolve and reform the congregation moving the members around, meanwhile the WTBTS takes over th funds in the bank accounts of the congregations that have been "dissolved."
New congregations are formed and every thing starts from scratch.
