Could a religion caught up in abuse and fraud possibly be "true"?

i recently had a discussion with a witness in which we were talking about the catholic church.

i led them out with talk about the fraud and child abuse scandals and everyone was agreeing and making comments about how terrible it is and how obviously wrong they are.

after about 30 minutes of solid rapport building in this manner, even incorporating scriptures regarding some doctrinal errors in their doctrine (catholic), i said this:.

so, i have been badgered recently to do some kind of family study by my wife.

thanks to tv.jw.org i now have a really easy tool to use that not only passes this time but actually makes them question the organisation.. our sessions skipping through the delights of the monthly broadcast have been very interesting.

well if you check the new pay attention at the meeting video their hall is one of the 1st.

flat roof, lots of glass and a jw.org logo.

Simon: Now they are planning ahead for resale for when they are finished with the buildings.

Which tells me that the leaders of this organization (the real leaders, whoever they are) know that they've got a cash-cow money machine here and that they're just going to milk it for all it's worth.

They're clearly not worried about any fictional "Armageddon" coming anytime soon.

konceptual99, that is fantastic!

As long as your children are encouraged to be themselves, to use all of their creative talents and abilities and are not pressured to conform, they have a good chance of escaping this cult.

Some books and essays you may want to read with them are:

The Giver - Lois Lowry - middle school (skip the movie, read the book)
Anthem - Ayn Rand
1984 and/or Animal Farm - George Orwell
Self Reliance - Emerson - this essay is challenging, but worth it. One my high school students who is a born-in JW told me this was life changing

K99: One of the things I wish to have is kids that can think for themselves, can take an objective approach and are not against the WTS just because daddy says they are morons.

This is a great point. This means that, in addition to pointing out the logical fallacies and hypocrisy of the organization, you need to supply your children with productive means to exercise their talents and develop their thinking skills.

What special talents or interests to they have?
