Obadiah 1:12: “And you ought not to watch the sight in the day of your brother, in the day of his misfortune; and you ought not to rejoice at the sons of Judah in the day of their perishing; and you ought not to maintain a big mouth in the day of [their] distress." - (NWT, 1984 Edition) -

Could trends and group think be evidence of a form of telepathy?
by EndofMysteries ini was thinking the other day about trends.
think back over the decades and how generally the majority of people will feel or like or dislike the same things.
people comment how awful and ugly things that trended in the past were.

It seems as if they are once again failing to show any type of concern for the victims.
Not "once again," it's "still."
Let's review: It's a cult!

Sometimes I think Jehovah's Witnesses overuse the word "historic"
by slimboyfat inat the beginning of the may broadcast stephen lett said this was a historic broadcast.
he explained that every member of the governing body had hosted a show and they were starting over again.
that was all the explanation he gave.

This is a historic thread. ... or is it "an historic" thread. I am never quite sure if it's "a" or "an" with "historic"! -

I'd like to invite y'all to come over to a thread I started that looks at this issue from the opposite perspective:

Warning: You will not find any pictures of parrots on this thread.

I can't believe you boys and girls are still at this nonsense.
Perry, you have nice parrots, but you clearly don't understand either science or the bible.
I think it's time you go cleaned out the bird cages; shit's been piling up in here.

The money question...
by Tornintwo ini am intrigued to know if there is truly any evidence of financial irregularities in the jehovah's witness organisation or if any one or group are raking off funds or benefitting financially...?.
whilst i disagree wholeheartedly with most of their teachings and practices, dogmatism, legalism and superiority complex, i don't honestly think there's anyone making millions at the top.
yes you could say that the gb are comfortably off, don't have to pay bills etc but they do actually get up in the morning and 'work', they aren't going off in private jets to tropical islands or driving bentleys.

OrphanCrow, thanks for the insight.
I always thought the whole "loan" thing was rather suspect.
It just makes the WTBTS look like the proverbial "money changers" that Jesus kicked out of the temple.

SHUNNING - Unchristian Psychological Torture
by EdenOne insome time ago, i wrote an extensive article on shunning and published it on my website.
since that website had views on doctrinal matters that no longer reflect my current stand, i took the website down.
however, my views on this matter are still current, and for the benefit of everyone here, i'm going to post the article here.

Eden,
Great job! You obviously put a lot of thought and hard work into this project.
Glad I could be of some help.

Why don't you just call them by their names?
That will really piss them off--especially the elders--and they won't have a valid reason to complain!

I posted this comment on a parallel thread:
The lack of financial transparency was always one of the things that really bothered me about this religion.
Every congregation publicly reports their accounts every month, but "mother" keeps her's secret.
To which OrphanCrow responded:
The WTS' lack of transparency is why the Charity Intelligence Canada has given the Watchtower Society an "F" grade.
https://www.charityintelligence.ca/charity-details/40-watch-tower-and-tract-society-of-canada
This got me thinking: That report by the CIC is most telling. A grade of "F" indeed!
I looked at the linked "Financial Statements." They are very opaque. There is really no way to tell from those statements how the monies are spent or what the assets are or how utilized.
I'm one guy, with one job and a couple of relatively minor investments and my financial statements are much more detailed than these nonsensical "statements." They are really a joke.
It was interesting to note the $57 million (Canadian Dollars) "Deficiency of revenues over expenses." That's a lot of money to be hemorrhaging. Of course, it could all just be a paper loss moving money from one branch to the other.
Another interesting tidbit from this report.
It states that in the 2014 fiscal year, "The Society granted [$35,921,000] to 434 qualified donees in Canada."
That's nearly $83,000 per "donee" on average. Just who are these people and what did they do to warrant getting such a large grant? That amount is surely much larger than the average JW earns annually.Let's review: It's a cult!
