I'm not ready to exhale
by teejay inlet's face it.... the only reason the d.c. sniper was caught was because his pride--arrogance, really--got out of hand.
he bragged about another cold-blooded killing that he had made a month ago.
what his stupid ass didn't realize is that he gave a break to competent officials who were looking for any opening.

Rubbish.
The Al-Qaeda killers and the Washington sniper both had a need for recognition. The difference was that the Al-Quaeda killers weren't worried about their identities being discovered after their crime.
The media putting out the message that arrogance will get you caught will not teach killers to be less arrogant. If they stop being arrogant they won't kill in the first place.
The most dangerous killers are the ones who feel no need for recognition from the outside world, usually because they are a close knit team of two or more people. Fred and Rosemary West were a case in point. Similarly killers whose reason for killing was sexual or sadistic also trip up far less, and are only ever caught when one of their victims escapes their clutches.
Television has an important part to play in educating the public. Killers and Al-Qaeda operatives can get their knowledge from other places.

And now gaze through a WT article and see how many of those fallacies you can count.
Especially "Last paragraph was really complicated stuff about a greek word, but what has that to do with the conclusion formed in this paragraph?"

Have you joined another religion?
by freedom96 ini don't think i will never join another organized religion.
that being said however, i have enjoyed going on occasion to non-denominational churches, watching the band play music, and the speaker.
if you did or would attend another church regularly, which one would you go to and why?

After flunking the Dubs, I gradually stopped believing in God, and I'm probably a Buddhist now.
This didn't stop me from singing in the local Church of England choir, because I like traditional Church music. I wouldn't be heard dead singing happy clappy music however.
Although I didn't believe in any C of E doctrines, they are really great accepting people, though it depends on how much of a hippy the local vicar is. I'll be going along to sing at Christmas, and see all my old friends.

People should be encouraged to do stupid things. This world is too namby-pamby safe, full of a bunch of whiners who are scared of everything.
I constantly get injured doing the things I enjoy and if the kid enjoys setting himself on fire then why prevent it?
Films have been full of self righteous heroes hurting 'bad' people ever since they were invented. Why can't films be full of people doing things that only hurt themselves.
No, forget it, stay on the couch eating lard buckets. That's a sure way to a happy life.

Governing Body looking for work
by Iwasyoungonce inif the governing body of jehovah witnesses suddenly found themselves out of the power seat that they currently refuse to vacate what do you think might be a fitting job for them to fill?.
i vote for the gb to start making fortune cookie predictions.
finally they could put some of that self appointed spiritual powers to some worth while means.

Crisis of wardrobe!
by bay64me ini hated getting ready for the kingdom hall.

As a bloke who wears a suit to work almost every day, I have to say it ain't just the clothes. It's the way you wear them.
How the dubs manage to always look like a dub in a suit I do not know. Or how you can tell the difference vetween a dub and a mormon even though dubs and mormon men and women all dress the same.
Food for thought. :)

Was Public Reproof Traumatic for You?
by zenpunk ini was reproved at the age of 17 and, believe me it was a nightmare at home.
first, my parents felt such shame over me - i was such an evil disappointment to them.
i would hear my mother talk on the phone to other sisters about how sad she was about the way i had turned out.

The 1914 Generation change
by Andyman ini was over on the thread about the blood policy and got to thinking how easy it is to just accept a change and after awhile people even forget all about how important it was at one time.
if the society does change the blood policy how long will it be before it is just accepted, and brothers and siters don't even recall the previous stance on the issue?.
this got me thinking about the change in the 1914 generation.

I can't believe it!
I strolled away in '92 and I was unaware until today that they had changed the whole thing. I knew they would have to eventually, but nobody told me that they had.
I'm amazed that there wasn't a mass walk out though. Will they believe anything in ten years time that they can prove is the truth now?
Have they created any new prophecies since I left?

my story
by nelly1 in.
well i tried to do this yest and i lost all of it, :( lot of typing lost, but oh well, i would welcome feedback from anyone who has been through similar things to me, i got the truth 13 yrs ago, and i never felt like i was wanted not really, i was with a man and had 3 kids with him when i came into contact with the witnesses, but he was a pedophile so i found out and had been doing things to our kids since they were born, i ditched him, he walked from 2 high court trials, and no one in my cong cared abt me, they didnt want to know.
said it was in my head, anyway, i struggled for years i hated going to conventions and being ignored by my own cong, it was just me and my daughter on our own all the time trying to serve jehovah, i didnt feel happy but i just wanted to please my god and i just tried my best, i always felt left out and i was never asked to do demos at the hall, its like they were just putting up with me, i was always pulled in for stupid things like the messages i put on my answerphone cuz some stupid stuck up old sister didnt like it.

I don't believe it is 'The Truth'.
But if it is, then getting through Armageddon will only give you an eternity of the same.
'The Paradise' is not my paradise.
When I left the jaydubs it was painful, but I'm happy now.
