the mrs and i have been invited to join a few "clubs" since leaving wtbts.
we have looked into a local"moose lodge", but after one visit that particular one got checked off the list ( a sloppy drunk fell in love w the mrs. lol) .
i got invited to join the freemasons a couple of times, but it just gave me "hebe-jeebees" and bad memories of all those jw conventions at scotish rite temples as a kid- i must admit the shiners do seem like a happy crowd.
I once joined a new mothers club when I had my son. They were more like Corporate Moms when I needed a support group. LOL.
I just don't think I'm a "joiner." I tend to be more of an introvert. Have you tried an interest based group? For instance, cycling or sailing or gardening?

My condolences. I just had to put a cat down last week. She was nearly 20. I cried for days. It's hard to do, but she was really suffering. Sometimes the right thing hurts.

hot dogs, a slice of pizza, etc are $8.
We always stop by McDonald's and buy a sack full of hamburgers to take. If they don't allow food, cargo pants are good for sneaking stuff in. Do I feel bad about this? No, not after ticket prices and parking fees.
Also, recycle that foam finger...take it back with you every time you go. Great for annoying people on the train or siblings in the back of the car, too!
i am having a discussion at work with the jw's.
should you spank a child to make them understand or do you reason with them.
they both agree with spanking.
The problem, even when spanking seems to "work," is that you've just taught the child to obey based on fear.
People need to understand the reasons for doing the right thing, that it's beneficial for all parties concerned. And children are little people who need to be taught how to function in society.
Obeying based on fear of punishment is a primitive morality. Our goal should be to teach our children to do the right thing because it's the right thing to do, that it reduces harm and promotes wellbeing for all.
now i'm not preaching hatred here i am just expressing how i've felt for years even when i was a jw.. i totally loathe the police/policticians...any authority......anyone that is over anyone else.
i have a total hatred of them all.
i wonder if it's because i was raised a jw?.
For me, it's not authority itself, it's when authority is stupider than me.
When I was in school and a teacher taught us something that was obviously incorrect, I lost all respect and often then started trouble.
How the he11 do all of these stupid people end up in positions of authority?
I think it's because they are "rules" people. Following rules gets you promoted, but these people never stop to think whether the rules make sense in the first place.
I once worked in a call center where one of the rules was that when you were working, you could not be looking at any other reading material, catalogs, etc. Seems reasonable. One day the phone systems went down for several hours, so I was looking at an Avon catalog. I got caught and written up for that! We were supposed to sit and do nothing for a few hours because 'rules is rules.'
That was the beginning of the end for that job. I finally walked out one day and quit over something equally stupid. And, as I was walking out the door, they ran behind me yelling, "Stop! You can't leave without an exit interview! "
Really?!?
I just kept right on walking and never looked back, never said anything. That didn't deserve a response.
a friend of mine (who is waking up), recently had the elders do a sheep herding visit.. they were browbeating my friend about attending meetings.
my friend has been ill and unable to attend anyway.. what response would you give to this garbage?.
if we were in a house and it was on fire and we couldnt walk we would have to crawl.. an example of a sister with an iron lung was brought up to show that if shes in this condition, we need to examine ourselves.
I think the false equivalence in the burning building analogy is that if a building is on fire, you'd want to exit it, but they are asking him / her to enter a building, the KH.
It's simply that stupid an analogy.
So, yes, the KH is afire with death-dealing false doctrines, so the thing to do is run or crawl for the exits as fast as you can!
