JW literature cart spot pinched by another church group!
by stuckinarut2 insooooo funny!.
the spot that is used by the local cong in our town for the literature cart has been taken over by another church group!.
the witnesses arrived to set up, and another group was in the exact same spot, with a table, and brochures and a sign..... it will be a great thing as it dilutes the effectiveness of the witness activity, by making it look confusing to the local town people!.....

The Real History of Mormonism - Outstanding Lecture
by cofty inif you think the mormon church is off-the-scale crazy you probably don't know the half of it.. the historical information in this talk by david fitzgerald is fascinating.
the good news is that, just like the watchtower, their growth is being stunted by the internet.. grab a coffee and be amazed at just how gullible millions of people can be.. lucy harris has become my new heroine.
don't miss the section from 8:50.

I loved the T-shirt that said, "Former Mormon, Ask Me How!"
Could we get an Ex JW T-shirt like that?

More on Punctuation
by compound complex injd souther ... is most widely known for his part in writing somber, elegiac songs that the eagles and linda ronstadt made famous, such as "new kid in town," heartache tonight," and "faithless love.

I don't know where I read about hypothetical situations and the subjunctive; likely in some online rabbit hole.
Thanks for the resource. I'll check it out.

the subjunctive
"If that were the case..." vs. " If that was the case..."
I understand the first usage is correct.
But yet I read that you don't use the subjunctive for hypothetical scenarios. Yet, isn't the above a hypothetical scenario?
I have trouble with this.

Advice needed on Crisis of Conscience
by cappytan inso, some of you may have seen my thread from yesterday about my wife waking up.. we had further discussion yesterday evening after i sent her the pbs video on the abuse scandals plaguing the watchtower.
she was so furious and pissed off at wt hq.
apparently a close relative of her's was abused by an elder and the only reason he was reproved and removed as an elder was because he confessed.

I would email her the PDF and just tell her to not read it until she's ready.
That puts her in the driver's seat. She'll go there when she's ready, but she'll have it constantly available.

Connections between blood transfusion and sexual repression in the Victorian Age.
by dropoffyourkeylee inhere is an interesting essay (seems to have been written by a college student) which explores the topics of sexual repression and its relationship to blood and blood transfusions featured in the 1897 book dracula:.
the importance of blood during the victorian era: blood as a sexual signifier in bram stokers dracula by by nilifer pektas.

I actually read the whole thing, and despite some awkward phrasing (the author not a native English speaker?), there appears to be a good argument for blood being a literary surrogate for sex in the Victorian era.
Dracula was written in 1897. I don't know when Fred Franz was born, but this equivalency might have stuck in the popular imagination for several more decades.
Interesting. Thanks for posting.

Welcome! I got out at 19. I have always lived my adult life exactly as I wanted. I found a great "worldly" guy and we've been married for 22 years! Can you imagine dating a Witness? *shudders*
