Slightly different approach - JW my tradition

hello everybody :) i have been visiting this forum for some time.

i noticed that many can't really free from the past in the org despite many years outside of jw.

i was awaken with a bang.

I have one thing for you to think about. Please never put your children in this situation:

My father was going into surgery. He refused blood. The Hospital Liason Committee was in the pre- op area. Thehywere the witnesses on his Medical Power of Attorney stating that he refused blood. I was NOT a decision maker even in the event of emergency.

Please don't ever make your children hear this conversation:

Doctor: " So, you are refusing blood even in the case that such refusal would lead to your death"

Dad: "That is correct."

Doctor: "Please sign this waiver."

Dad: Signs waiver.

Me: "I love you, Daddy!" Gives him a kiss on the cheek.

Doctor: wheels dad away

Please, please, please, never make one of your children go through that! It nearly broke my heart.

Should doctors tell JW patients that there is disagreement about Watchtower's blood policy.

this has been a controversial issue among doctors and medical ethicists.

i think it basically comes down to the fact that physicians have a responsibility to establish the presence of informed consent.

is it really possible for a person to give informed consent if they are not accurately informed?.

I have just been through this with both my parents within the last few weeks who were in an auto accident. Their treatment and injuries were different, though they both came into the hospital as "traumas."

My father had a dislocated hip and needed surgery to repair the socket in his pelvis. He was not bleeding when he came into Emergency. The blood issue came about because of the hip repair surgery which happened a few days later. The surgeon was great. He asked my dad if several treatments were okay, mentioning that he thought other JWs had accepted them, but asked my dad to do any research he needed to do, including talking to the HLC, to determine if these treatments would be okay with him. Dad accepted a cellsaver during surgery (recycles your blood), an internal tourniquet to block blood flow temporarily to the surgery site and Epigen for several days before surgery to build up his red blood cell count. He was respectful, gave dad options, and worked with him to find solutions. The blood loss during surgery was minimal and dad is recovering well. The key was that this was PLANNED surgery.

My mom came into Emergency actively bleeding. This is much more dangerous because there is no time for planning or research. She was upset that the HLC hadn't told the doctors what was acceptable and what their medical plan was. She clearly knew nothing other than NO BLOOD! When she finally talked with the HLC and they made their "recommendations, " she was angry with the trauma doctor that told her that her need was acute and these interventions take time to work, so they wouldn't be useful to her. Her hemoglobin dropped into the 7s and continued to drop into the 6s until she refused to have anymore blood drawn, both because she didn't want to know and she thought she couldn't afford to lose even a vial of blood. The only thing she would accept was iron. The nurse told us that her refusal of blood was causing lots of issues with fainting and fatigue. This would just make her recovery all the more slow. She has been recovering much more slowly than my dad. Her hemoglobin numbers are slowly coming up, but she talked to a JW friend of hers who is a nurse and told her that she lost about half of her red blood cells and it would take several months for her to build them back up. This was the first person whom she actually believed about her medical condition and it shook her up.

So, I guess the point I'm making is that there are different scenarios with the blood issue. If there is planned surgery, there is time to work out mutually agreed upon solutions between the surgeon and the patient. If you come into Emergency actively bleeding, then the JW acceptable treatments don't have time to work and all a doctor can do is point out the dangers of not accepting blood. There's no time to have a debate and a critical patient does not have the ability, likely, to weigh options and make decisions in such a fast-paced emergency type situation.

Also, the surgeon who worked with my dad told me, pointing to my year old nephew, that if he needed blood, he'd have a court order in a minute.

Do our loved pets come back when we do?

i have recently started studying and im really enjoying learning all about the truth!

i am a huge animal lover and have my dog trixie for 11 years now, i got her when i was 12 years old and she has been the best friend and companion, i am so lucky and grateful to have her at my side every single day!

i get worried a lot about what will happen when the time comes that she has to leave me, anytime i even think about it i start to cry because it would break my heart not to have her with me anymore!

The really cool feeling of community within JWs

i remember going out with other jws after the memorial.. small gatherings.. picnics at some local landmark.. the feeling of closeness, camaraderie, friendship with like minded people you could trust.. haven't experienced it since i left.. really miss that..

Adult Homework and Extra Credit

Everyone must smile at 5 people a day, especially the ones who are really ticking you off.

Make smiling the first point of contact with anyone we meet, yes, even the guy in the elevator. Extra points for saying, " Good morning!"

Rather than flipping the driver who cut you off the bird, wave at him enthusiastically as if you hadn't seen him since summer camp after 5th grade.

The worst gift of Christmas

everybody gets one, the gift that stared up at you hopefully from its beautiful wrapping, and then, like a deflated balloon, delivers the worst gift ever.. i'm not talking about the gifts from small children like the "greatest aunt" coffee mug or the red and black lace folding fan.

surely you never would have chosen them for yourself, but it's the thought that counts from small people who love you.. then, there's the what the hell were they thinking gifts.

my mother-in-law has been giving these a lot lately.

New Field Service Format?

it seems that hype is the only thing keeping jw.org alive and well these days (that and the money of suckers who continue to fall for it).. at meeting on monday, an elder announced "the faithful slave has seen it fit to change the format of our ministry in 2016, and more information will come".

i guess the desired reaction is to get jws preoccupied with what those changes could possibly be, and if it means that the end is nearer or some crap.. with that said, i've been suckered into wanting to know what these 'changes' will be.

does anyone know?

Since the GB are so progressive now, likely field service will now take the form of a public opinion survey to give the GB insight into their PR problem and learn things they need to change.

Hi, we are Jehovah's Witnesses asking today if you'll participate in a short survey regarding your opinion of us.

Is your opinion of us positive or negative?

What are 3 negative issues that we have, in your opinion?

Do you feel JWs have any positive associations in th public mind?

What could we do to improve public perception of us?

If you've heard negative opinions, where did they come from?

Have you met anyone who has converted to the JWs? What reasons did they give for converting?

Have you met anyone whl has left the JWs? Did they tell you there reason?

What is the last thing you read in the media about us?

Is our worship schedule convenient for you?

Do you enjoy talking to us in our public ministry? What could we do to make it more palatable to you?

Do you like our website? Do you enjoy our videos?

What concerns would you like to see addressed in our articles and web content?

Do you think it's tacky to ask for donations as often as we do?

...and, etc.

Actually a program like this might give the GB the actual knowledge they need to secure the success of their organization.

Should I send my condolence?

i was really close to this family, it's.

been over 20 years since i saw them last.

but the husband an elder in his 70's .

I would send a message of condolence to the husband. It's the right thing to do in any other normal human relationship.

However, be aware that he might not greet you with open arms, and if you can live with that possible outcome, I would say go for it.

And on the other hand, he may be overjoyed to hear from you. And that possibility might make it really worth it to try to reach out to him.

JW mother wants to send her son to a mental institute for being atheist & wanting to go to college

i am not sure if this was posted before.

i am the mother of an 10 year old and i would have never treated my son like this for wanting to go to college, believes in evolution & is an atheist...i am disgusted how this jw mother can't see how her son has the freedom of thought or religion.... this poor kid most likely does not do drugs or is in a street gang, he just wants to go to college for crying out loud.... this is insane, just shows how a religion or organization blinds all logic from you... it's a cult..... i know there are many cult jws parents out there who would do this, its insane and disgusting.... where is the love you say you should have towards your children?
