Oh, I'm sure he would. We'll put the York restoration sheds on our bucket list.
He's managed to extract a promise that when he graduates high school, we'll take him to the UK for a grand railroad tour.
Now, I've just got to figure out how to pay for it!

Cofty, I will tell him. He is pleased beyond belief when his knowledge can compete in the adult world.
He had so many issues when he was little, but we've worked through them and it looks like he's turning out fine.
My philosophy on childrearing is: help them find their passion, support it, and they will thrive!

Couldn't find any info online about the Railriders, other than a minor league baseball team in Pennsylvania of the same name.
We take this kid anywhere within a 5 hour drive that has an old steam railroad running. He even volunteers at a (somewhat) local scenic railroad that runs steam. He even gets to ride in the engine sometimes. He usually shadows the brakeman and fireman and sometimes helps with maintenance of way issues. He's passed the adult test of Federal Railroad Administration regulations and the other volunteers (it's all volunteer) are mentoring him. The are telling him that with 5 or 6 years of railroad experience with them and going to Community college, he might be able to get a real job with a real railroad like CSX when he turns 21.
It's truly awesome that my kid with ADHD is able to focus and thrive in this arena. We do what we can to give him these experiences and nurture his passion. It helps that he's an only child so all our spare money and energy can go entirely to him. :)

My son, who is 15 and has an encyclopedic knowledge of railroading, made an interesting observation about the old black and white photo.
He was able to tighten up the date a little bit. He noticed there are 2 tenders. The second is a water tender. This was added after Alan Pegler purchased it in 1963, the reason being that when steam service was discontinued, all the water columns were taken out and the Flying Scotsman needed to provide her own water.
So, he disputes the claim that this photo is of regular service. It would have been post private purchase by Alan Pegler which occurred in 1963, but before the voyage to the States in 1969.
This kid had a 4 hour, multi-disc documentary on the Flying Scotsman that he used to watch obsessively when he was about 11 years old. We've given him his own room in the house just for setting up a giant model railroad and he stores his massive collection of model trains and railroad memorabilia in there. He has an equally massive collection of railroad knowledge in his head. He truly is a railfan-atic.

Update on my recently disfellowshipped niece
by keyser soze ini had posted about a month ago that my niece, who just turned 15, was getting disfellowshipped.
i learned this past weekend that she tried to commit suicide.
between being df'd, and her dad not being around, it became too much for her.

That is sad that the younger ones have been pulled out of school.
I hope the state they are in has good oversight over homeschoolers.
I also hope they observe their older sister's example and don't get baptized young.

Berrygerry, thanks for the link.
Drawing things out to their logical conclusion is often an eye-opening exercise in truth discernment.

Start A Butterfly Garden!
by Bonsai intime to take a break from debating religion.
take in a breath of fresh air and be healed by the wonders of nature around you.. how many of you have a garden?
how many have a nice flower patch to go with your vegetable garden?

I am sick of the rain, too! It's been unseasonably cold, too. In the 50s. They do not have the multipack garden flats out, yet, and I really want to start putting petunias in my flower boxes under my windows.
Is that zoysia grass, kaik? It looks thick and even.
We have fescue in Maryland. After about 5 days of rain it is a foot tall! We actually had to mow in the drizzle, finally, or else we would've had a meadow.

Suffering and existence of God
by elbib inmany people find it difficult to reconcile suffering and existence of god.
it seems they feel that it is god’s obligation to shield humans from ill-effects of their short-sighted acts..
people’s hobby has something to do with this kind of reasoning!

Nice job, elbib. In four short paragraphs you were able to indulge in copious amounts of victim-blaming and throw in a little anti-semitism, too, for good measure.
And you wonder why the converts aren't rolling in?
