  what would the likes of al sharpton say if the hallowed event this weekend at the edmund pettus bridge in selma, alabama had been attended by a miss white u.s., miss white georgia and miss white teen?

  Look, I don't get the whole pageant thing, but apparently it's popular in the south. So, I understand that black Americans would see the anniversary as significant in the struggle to have themselves acknowledged as equal to everyone else and would want to celebrate black beauty at that time and place.

  I'm not really sure how the MLK quote above is relevant to a beauty pageant. I think he was talking about in American life in general where black has historically been judged as "less than." So, a black beauty pageant would represent progress. White beauty standards have always been considered beautiful. Black, not so much.

  when it comes to a simple matter of no longer believing the teachings of jw's, it appears to me that it's more common for the husband to make the first move to leave the religion.

  Oh, and I left at 19 and then married a "worldly" guy. So, however you want to count that.

  The idea of the adult Witness life skeeved me out so bad that I ran!

  Yes, the human brain does suck at multi-tasking. I think women just do more of it than men and so get marginally better at it.

  When you are raising children, taking care of the house and, possibly, working all at the same time, you HAVE to multi-task. If you don't, life falls apart!

  Give somebody something impossible to do, yet make it mandatory to do it, and people will figure out how to get it done!

  Education, education, education....

  an update on my life post education..... as the governing body continue to denounce higher education, reality continues to prove their words ignorant, ill informed and blatant lies.

  i am proud and astonished to say i have just been accepted for a university teaching hospital post.

  i have a seriously sought after, senior house officer job in intensive care, endocrinology and clinical pharmacology.

  Congratulations on your achievement. When bright minds have something worthwhile to focus on, great things happen.

  I am glad that you feel fulfilled now. I can't imagine living the JW life as an adult. Don't be too hard on your 19 year old self. You were simply a product of your environment. When you know better, you can do better. And you have DONE WAY BETTER!

  Be cautious about the excessive use of the most-favored medicine called paracetamol, say studies!

  studies have found an increased risk of mortality, up to 63 percent, among long-term paracetamol users, compared to those who had not been prescribed the drug during the study period (http://www.interaksyon.com/article/106187/long-term-paracetamol-use-poses-risk-says-study).

  A always in medicine, it's risks versus benefits. Paracetamol (acetaminophen in the US) has a maximum daily dosage of 4000 mg. Two tablets, a single dose, are 1000mg.

  Paracetamol is extremely effective in reducing fever, much better than ibuprofen, and is recommended over aspirin for children due to the risk of Reyes syndrome with aspirin use in that population.

  Another benefit is that it does not "thin the blood" like aspirin and ibuprofen do. It's one of the few pain relievers that can be used pre-surgery.

  And, it is one of the few pain relievers safe for use in pregnancy.

  It's extremely short-sighted to paint one medication as "bad" without looking into the entire drug profile. Its use may be unwarranted in one situation (eg daily use) but highly indicated in other scenarios.

  JW literature cart spot pinched by another church group!

  sooooo funny!.

  the spot that is used by the local cong in our town for the literature cart has been taken over by another church group!.

  the witnesses arrived to set up, and another group was in the exact same spot, with a table, and brochures and a sign..... it will be a great thing as it dilutes the effectiveness of the witness activity, by making it look confusing to the local town people!.....
