Travel recommendations?
by stephanie61092 inhey guys.
i've decided that during this time of being dfed, maybe trying to get reinstated, i'm going to enjoy my time with myself.
that being said, i would like to do some traveling when the weather warms up across the us.

That should be: hedgerows of wild roses. You can get beautiful photos of the roses with the ocean and lighthouses in the background. Lighthouses all over the place there, too. -

The barrier islands of Maryland and Virginia, including Assateague Island where they have wild ponies! Chincoteague, VA has their annual pony roundup in July every year. It's really unique and you can bid on a pony if you have a barn for him at home.
Also the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Never been, but I want to go. Wild and natural and lots of lighthouses.
Peaks Island, Maine is a small, bikeable island just off the coast of Portland and only accessible by ferry. There's a road around the perimeter of the island with hedgerows of wild rows growing between the road and the sea. Biking heaven. No hotels, though. You have to rent a cottage. Rocky shores, though. No sandy beaches like farther south.

My cat died suddenly!
by Fisherman ini did not realize that they were symptoms that something was wrong with my cat -but i did notice that my cat was breathing a little differently for a period of about a few days.
i also noticed prior and after to that, that on occasion, my cat would cry at the litter box, but that was a very seldom event.. anyway, about a week ago i noticed the symptom that my very loved cat was breathing heavy.
so i called a taxi and i was going to rush him to emergency room for cats.

Oh, Fisherman, I missed this post! I am so sorry to hear you lost your buddy!
Cats hide illness well and losing them unexpectedly is unfortunately all too common. Please don't blame yourself. You loved and gave your little buddy a good life. A very lucky little cat to have such a loving owner.
I have several of my feline friends buried in the back garden. I don't think I could ever stand to sell this house.

Assemblies - Before and After Waking Up
by Funchback inhappy friday to all!.
i haven't been to a meeting for maybe 10 years.
i only know what's happening nowadays from the experiences i read here or the internet in general.. anyway, on to the topic: i started attending meetings at the age of 7. as a kid, the only thing i looked forward to at the assemblies (circuit/district) was walking around veteran's stadium (philadelphia district convention) during intermission, hanging with friends, looking at girls (as i got a little older) and trying to have enough tickets to get pizza!.

Yup, Wingcommander, I got baptized in that pool at Grantville Assembly Hall in the eighties. It was pretty cool as baptismal pools go. I never wanted to be baptized in a big swimming pool at the DCs.
We went to the Vet in Philly, but we also went to the Capital Center near DC a lot, too. It was lovely because it was enclosed and air conditioned. We went to RFK stadium once (hell; open air and it rained) and a racetrack in Delaware once which was okay because it was covered.
But, yeah, that was some ugly orange carpet in Grantville.

I have too much crap!! How to declutter/dehoard.....
by Muddy Waters insome areas of our home are very nice, tidy, clean.
and other rooms are just junk and clutter and clothes and papers.... omg.
and now that we are getting older, we realize that we face a time of transition -- and this is hard to cope with too, as we believed the lie that we would never get old, etc.

I had some good cleaning success today. Even though it was my birthday, I decided that I needed to work on cleaning my bedroom because I had gotten a new quilt for my birthday and wanted to see it on my bed. So, I washed all the sheets and blankets and put them back on the bed and then put my new green floral quilt on my bed. I am a quilt collector and I have to be careful not to collect too many. I have them in a wardrobe and when it is full, no more quilts unless I donate one first. I did donate a big, puffy king-sized quilt because it wouldn't fit in my washer and it cost me $6 in quarters and a trip to the laundromat everytime it needed to be washed. It was too much, so I let it go.
The quilt looked great, so then I cleaned and dusted the bedside table, putting odds and ends away as I went. I also tackled my jewelry chest and my hope chest, cleaning, dusting and putting odds and ends away. Tomorrow i am going to do my husband's dresser, his nightstand, and my dressing table. That dressing table has jewelry scattered all over the surface and a jewelry box sitting on it that is full as well as the standing jewelry chest. I need to purge and organize. I am not even really a big jewelry person, but I get a lot for gifts.
Then, also, I have books sitting in piles, neatly around the edges of the wall. These are going to be sorted, purged, and the ones left will be found new homes. Sitting on a pile on the floor is not a home. Everything has to have a home, if it doesn't then the next time we have an object and we don't know where it goes and we can't decide, then that object just get set down anywhere and becomes another brick in the wall of clutter.
What I'm also working on is maintaining areas that I've already cleaned. So, I start by quickly going through the clean areas and putting things in place, vacuum, or wipe down counters just to keep your progress which will help to maintain momentum. Then, I work on a new area. My ongoing clutter spot is a room that was turned into a home office, but ended up just being a dumping ground for clutter.Since we've added onto the house, and now have room for a desk and filing cabinet in a more open area (where hopefully we won't be tempted to dump things.) I have been slowly cleaning that room out a little at a time so I can turn it back into a bedroom. This room has caused me so much anxiety. I can't stand to be in there too long, so I just do a tiny little project at a time. My next project is to go through a pile of 4 or 5 medical folders. I think I can handle that without having an anxiety attack. I have to just keep thinking about what a cute little spare bedroom it will be when I'm done.
Trying to decide whether it's worth it to save all the purged items for a yard sale. It's a big thing around here. They usually start in April. Might be able to make $100 or so for a few hours work. I don't know. I'm still thinking about it.
How's everyone else's decluttering going? I'm sympathetic with violias who still feels the need to buy more after purging. However, I've got the closet of my dreams, now. It's organized by item so I can see everything I have in a glance. I take a photo of it to keep in my purse so when I'm tempted to buy something I can check if I have room and also if it works with all the other clothing in my wardrobe. If not, then I don't buy it.
Best of luck, everyone.

They'll DF people who survive suicide attempts. They don't give a rat's ass about mental illness, but don't have the humility to accept that they need training, either.
That makes them ignorant, arrogant and evil.

Yes, one of the current thoughts on autism and savantism is the bandwith theory.
They use so much brain power/ bandwidth in these very specualized abilities that there's little left for abstract things like social skills or emotional skills.
Their brains are incredibly overconnected in some areas which produce these amazing abilities, but leaves little room for connectionc to social and emotional brain areas (ie the amygdala).
In other words, the brain can only compute so much and extraordinary usage of certain areas leaves no room for development of other abilities.
But, evolutionarily the deficits might be worth the extreme intelligence in other areas.

Also, with the photos. I have boxes and boxes of old ones, bought scrapbooks to put them in, but they are still empty. Now some of our photos are digital and they are neither displayed nor easily accessible. I have lots of photo frames sitt>ng around with multiple photos under them. Christmas photos from christmas cards, relatives' class pictures. This is another area I am in over my head.
Then there's old VHS recordings of our wedding, baby showers, wedding showers, vacations. Then a little hi8 recorder from when my son was little, and now little sd cards everywhere. It's a huge task to think of transferring everything to digital. I really want my wedding video transferred. That's important enough to take the time to do.
Should I transfer all my cds to a digital format to save space? What about my old tapes? Do I even still have them? Tough calls.

Good info on digital scanning. Yes, I am awful on purging and organizing digital files. We crash computers at my house and then lose flash drives and forget passwords, and, oh, it is sooo bad.
But, it's a good direction to shoot for. Work is forcing a lot of things to happen sans paper now, so I can see digital information manipulation in my future.
But, I have to disagree on the shredder. I'm definitely on team burning barrel. It's literally completely gone when you're done, has lovely ambience and you can even cook dinner during the process if you roast hot dogs and marshmallows over the open flame. Some things just provide a much better analog experience!
