Angst and the Jehovah's Witness Mindset
by cofty inthere is no typical jw personality type.. any of us who were in the religion for a number of years will remember all sorts of individuals.
there is as much variety among jws as there is in the general population.
some were arrogant and judgemental but others were humble and kindly.

Angst is an excellent word.
You often hear it coupled with "teenage" because they are such difficult years.
Those who never progress beyond their "teenage angst" seem to be attracted to the cult.
Those who are born-in never see the modeling to progress beyond such a pessimistic view of the world.
They are a group of emotionally stunted adolescents, or that's what it feels like when I'm around them.

This is quite masochistic. Some people get off on that stuff.
I really think it is sexual sublimation

Oh, that reminds of the horror of having seats in the middle of the aisle.
When you have to exit the row to use the restroom, is the polite way facing away or facing toward the people you are trying to squeeze in front of?
If you face toward them, it feels awkward, but if you face away, you pretty much stick your butt in their face!
This always produced some lively conversation and was never quite settled!
Were you a face in-ner or a face out-er?

“Even if this wasn’t the Truth, I need the structure.”
by Londo111 ini remember many years back a fellow ministerial servant saying this to me.
he felt that even if jehovah’s witnesses were not the only true religion, the regimented routine of meetings and field service and the strict rules and enforcement provided a beneficial structure for his life.
at the time i thought if this wasn’t “the truth”, i’d have no need for all that “structure”.

It's true; some people need more structure than others. You see that in the classroom from a really young age.
You also expect progress on that front, too. For example, independent use of checklists or daily organizers is the goal, though, in the meantime, it might require daily signatures from parents and teachers. By middle school, only selected students should still need this kind of help.
If you're an adult and still haven't learned how to provide structure to yourself, you might join a highly structured cult...or you may decide to join thd military...or you may just decide to get a 9-5 job.
One of the privileges of adulthood is you get to choose. But, know yourself, first. Know what you are good at and know what you still need help with.
But, choose a positive option.
"I'm in a cult cause I need structure," doesn't cut it.

I haven't watched it, but let me guess: when people can't support themselves in old age due to giving everything to the cult, don't call on the cult for help, call on their children. -

So sorry to hear of this.
There's a really helpless feeling when you face a natural disaster. We've faced several hurricanes and it's terrifying as you watch it barrel down on you and there's nothing you can do but flee...and then wait it out.
My condolences on losing a pet. They are members of the family and heartbreaking to lose.
My kind thoughts are with all affected.
