Thanks, Wings for some sanity on the subject.
I know you've mentioned your mom was a nurse.
Looks like she knocked some good sense into you on the medical front.

hi folks .
i haven't been on for a while and looked in today to see a notification that l had a pm .
however l can't see anything newer than a couple of months ago , which l had already opened .
Congratulations!
Yes. Lots of people have messages that Simon removed because a poster was harassing people.
He said he hasn't got around to removing the notification icon yet and to just ignore it.

Good for you. The modest 3 bedroom house next door to me is no more than 1500 square feet and rents for $2700 a month.
My mortgage is less than that because I bought my house years ago.
My son will never be able to afford to live in the neighborhood where he grew up.
I'm not moving because this is my home. The entire state has gotten expensive because of population growth pressure. It doesn't mean I should have to move out to BFE to live.
It does mean, however, that employers need to offer higher wages to fill local jobs. We already have a seafood shortage because no one can afford to work in picking houses and HB1 visas have been stopped which used to supply the cheap labor. And this in the state of Maryland defined by its seafood industry as well as coastal tourism.
Also, my MIL lives on Social Security alone and gets $40 a month in food stamps.

Try rent at $2000 a month.
No government subsidies. It's that sweet spot where you make too much for help and not enough to live on. Except healthcare depending on whether your state picked up the Medicare expansion or not.
We shouldn't be paying people so little that they have to resort to public subsidies anyhow.

Not impressed. Of course SOMEBODY will make $100,000 after 3 years of job promotions. Not the average person. The average person will be lucky to make $15 an hour which is not enough to live on.
That's like Mary Kay who claims all their recruits can drive pink Cadillacs. No, only a very tiny percentage of people, and if they don't make their sales for one month they lose it. Look at the website Pink Truth. It's an addictive rabbit hole about the cult of Mary Kay. So many JW vibes.
Advertising about the amount that a handful of employees will make in 3 years time is no way to fill empty jobs. People want to know what they can actually expect to make. Maybe offering an upfront signing bonus would do the job better. Or creating better schedules where people aren't knocked off the schedule when it's not busy and then demanded to come in with only 24 hours notice. They have that reputation. So maybe they should fix that problem. People don't want to be treated like robots. If they want robots, then they should get some.
i'm so proud of my son.
he has persevered through 2 years of community college.
three of those semesters were at home because covid19 shut in person classes.
He is studying engineering, though he's still not sure which type. He'll probably take a few classes of different types to see which one he prefers.
He's most interested in civil engineering or possibly mechanical, but also is looking into electrical engineering because it's lucrative.
They also have aerospace, but that's not a forerunner.
He took the high school engineering track so has some experience with the field.
University of Maryland is a school where internships are pushed so he can hopefully get some real world experience to help him decide.
In general, it's a school where students are eager to get internships, credentials and employment directly upon graduation. It's not so much a "let's have a great fun university experience so we can look back on it fondly for years to come" type school. It's a serious research institution and the students are driven.
They also have great government and defense industry contacts since it's located right by Washington DC.

Update: My son did get that $9,000 annual scholarship for two years! That's basically full tuition, though we have to come up with room and board.
He has to maintain a 3.2 GPA and take 30 credits per year, but that's it. He should be able to do that!
That takes a huge financial burden off of us.
Again, beyond proud! There was an essay involved and then an interview process.
School has never been easy peasy for him. He has to work at it. So, getting a merit scholarship is huge.
Just thought I'd share for those who are interested.
i am finishing to read the entire bible (nwt 2013) for my first time (my fault) and i wrote down hundreds, maybe thousands, of questions not clear to me, but one especially came in my mind meditating on god's name.. if i wanted to summarize the entire bible in one phrase i would say (even before the kingdom): god’s name sanctification.. god is jealous about his name.
he does everything for the love of his name, and he wants to be called and prayed using his name.
no doubt about all this (repeated several times in the bible), but it involves the pronunciation of his name.. god left us his name in the form of יהוה which is unpronounceable.
Yeah, OTWO, I agree. I always thought the bible could be summed up this way:
Old Testament: "I'm the biggest and baddest and I win! Love, God"
New Testament: "Aww, He ain't that bad! Love, Jesus"

I'm still stuck on the summary of the bible as the sanctification of God's name.
I've only ever heard the word "sanctification " used by JWs. I don't think it's intuitive at all.
I wonder what JWs mean when they use that word. It's obviously a JW buzzword.
I don't think someone reading the Bible on their own would come up with that as the theme of the bible without previous JW input.
i am a balding man.
mid 40s.
i just shave it really close so it’s looks like a choice.
Ask her.
I wouldn't be pissed if my husband did it, but I damn sure would be pissed if suddenly $1000 was missing without explanation.
