cj,
Thanks for the reminder about Thunder Bay. A few years ago some friends and I had a meal at Armondo's on Cumberland Street. Next time I'm in Thunder Bay, I'll have to check out the rest of your Little Italy.DJ,
Toronto ranks with Sao Paolo, New York, Chicago and Buenos Aires as one of the largest Italian settlements outside Italy. According to The Canadian Encyclopedia, "In 1996, 62% of Italian Canadians lived in Ontario, 20% in Quebec and 10% in BC. ... The most significant concentrations are in Toronto, where in 1996 Italian Canadians numbered 414,310, and in Montreal, where they numbered 220,935. Other cities in which Italian Canadians numbered 10,000 or more were (in descending order) Vancouver, Hamilton, St. Catharines-Niagara, Ottawa-Hull, Windsor, Calgary, Edmonton, London, Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, Sudbury and Oshawa. ... In cities where Italians have settled in sufficient numbers, they have tended to create ethnic neighbourhoods. These 'Little Italys,' with their distinctive shops, restaurants, clubs and churches, are easily recognizable, but they have rarely been ghettos segregated from the rest of society."
We have Italian TV, radio stations, theatres and newspapers in Toronto and Hamilton, plus some of the best pasta and pizza you ever ate in your life. The city has the nickname "Toronto the Good," and Italians and others are always trying to make it "Toronto the Better." If you come to Toronto and see the right places, you might never want to leave, even in the winter when you can spend time strolling and shopping in its "underground city." I came here 20 years ago and haven't ever wanted to leave. -

Dr. Laura
by AuntieJane ini listen to her regularly.
i don't always agree w. her but usually have to admit that she is right from a moral standpoint.
god knows we need more of that in this world!.

tj,
Are those my only choices?
Apparently I misunderstood your question and inadvertently sprang a trap for myself. I suppose that's what I deserve for trying to think long after I should have been asleep at night. I appreciate your posts.

It's so simple -- Matthew 24
by cruzanheart inso here i was this evening, reading the old familiar matthew 24 with the kids before bedtime, but i was reading out of our very nice contemporary parallel new testament, specifically the message version, and i had this sudden realization: jesus didn't give us a really complicated, mysterious prophecy that had different types and antitypes -- he was simply continuing his original message (love your neighbor, love god).
remember verse 12 about the love of the many cooling off?
the verse right after that talks about enduring to the end.

John,
A great post! I'm sure glad I got off that sinking (stinking???) boat.
SheilaM,
JCanon: I want to thank you for reminding me how pompous and self-righteous JW's can be.
He's got my hearty thanks too. Yours is another great post that makes good sense.

Nothing the wt has ever said in the name of god has EVER COME TO PASS.
How true--with special emphasis on "nothing"!
I don't want to spend an eternity trying to live up to an impossible standard set by a judgmental egotist.
Same here!

With regard to Dr. Laura in this discussion, I think the answer is Yes.
herk, do you need a hug? you sound like you need a hug. ((((((herk))))))
At the moment, the only one whose hug I might have wanted was from Wildhorses. We did hug, and I respect her, having become aware that her contributions to this thread were sincere and not in any way malicious.

Canon,
Your posts keep reminding me of the following texts:
- Jer 14:14 - "Then Jehovah said to me, 'The prophets are prophesying falsehood in my name. I have neither sent them nor commanded them nor spoken to them; they are prophesying to you a false vision, divination, futility and the deception of their own minds.'"
- Jer 23:31 - "'Behold, I am against the prophets,' declares Jehovah, 'who use their tongues and declare, "Jehovah declares."'"
- Mt 7:15 - "Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves."
- Mt 24:11 - "Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many."
- 1 Jo 4:1 - "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world."

Canon,
So true. So true...
Apparently I wasn't far wrong, was I? Search as diligently as we may, we can find no evidence of the humility that brings God's rich blessing.

Canon,
As I see it, you're a classic example of how new religions get started. A person like you ignores the Bible's own interpretation and gets all wound up about his own personal view. Reason and Scripture never phase him. All the while, he fails to see that God will not reveal anything to the man who lacks humility.
