Ecclesiastes 9 proved to me that the idea of a resurrection was not a early Jewish view or belief.

Out of context
by Nomorejwguilt ini’m just curious to hear other people’s input on different scriptures or quotes from the society or witnesses that are used out of context.
i’ve always found it funny when a scripture is quoted and applied to whatever point they’re trying to make, but where it was taken from in the bible passage has nothing to do with what they’re getting at..

Mark 13: 1-8 ...Not a composite sign/ two-fold prophecy scripture
by RULES & REGULATIONS inthis brother starts off with reading the following scriptures from the book of mark 13:1-8.
3 while he was sitting on the mount of olives across from the temple, peter, james, john, and andrew asked him privately, 4 “tell us, when will these things happen?
and what will be the sign when all these things are about to be accomplished?”.

The whole thing is about that generation and nothing more. Even the scripture about preaching to the nations was really written about preaching the Roman lands. The fulfillment of those prophecies happen from 66 through about 73 CE. Remember these verses were written after the 1st century.

Did you actually read the bible end to end?
by Ultimate Axiom inin my ten years as a witness i never read the whole bible end to end, what with four magazines a month, the book study, meetings and talk preparations, there just wasn’t the time.
i knew all the important references to ‘prove’ the various jw doctrines, and the cherry picked chapters that help foster the idea that it’s a good book, but that’s not reading it.
well after nearly forty years out, i decided i would do it.

Did it twice as I was waking up, like has been said the fastest way to atheism is reading the Bible.

You Don't Have to Tell the Elders Anything!
by minimus inif you were ever brought before a judicial committee, and were about to be interrogated by the elders, just remember...you owe them nothing.
they are mere men and no better than you!
even if it wasn’t a judicial interrogation , you should never feel obligated to them.

They can df you for anything. A friend had a friendship with a female at work while he was going through marital problems. He mentioned this to his elders why I don’t know. They he and his female friend never had sex never even touched one another, yet it was deemed in Christian so he was dfd.
By the way his wife had already left him claiming he wasn’t a good spiritual head and they ofcourse supported her in her divorce of him even with no evidence of foul play on his part.

The 24 Prophetic Failures of Watchtower's Most Heralded Date, 1914
by FatFreek 2005 inthe year 1914 would be disappointing.
perhaps even more so than the great disappointment which happened some 70 years earlier at the hands of a a baptist preacher, william miller.
it placed target years of 1843 -- 1844 on the map of popularity.

Not only was it a great disappointment for Russell but one of the greatest lies the WT since told. He wrote that Armageddon was going to come in 1914. The Wt then sometime in the twenties on write that Russell and those back then expect something great to happen, they implied they had an idea Jesus was coming but didn’t realize it was him installing his kingdom and he coming invisibly. They are and still state this crap to this day. Again Russell was confident that Armageddon was coming in 1914, he had already stated when Jesus came invisibly and when his heavenly kingdom was installed.

The stuff JWs get right
by HowTheBibleWasCreated insince today there is a post about jws and science i thought it right to throw them a bone and see if they have anything right:.
1. round earth (lol).
2. old universe (13.7 billion years).
-
Crazyguy
They never agreed to the age of the earth but said to leave it to the scientists to argue about. Fact is in my youth they were still saying Russell’s teaching of an earth about 50,000 years old was right. They also still push the idea that man is only 6000 years old.
Its a good thing your thread is about what they got right because if it was about what they have wrong it would be one damn long post!

Flat Earth and Jw. Not possible?
by Earthmeasured insorry for my poor english, i hope to make not too many mistakes.
im a jw and in the last three years i have studied a lot the topic of the earth being flat.
i have a good scientific background so im not stupid or crazy.

I agree with earthmeasured, the Bible says the earth is flat in over 60 scriptures it even says it’s supported by pillars and has corners. If the Bible said it it must be true! And that’s why they call me crazy.

There over 60 scriptures that imply the earth is flat and just one where it says it like a circle. It just goes to show that you shouldn’t put your trust in a book written by a bunch of goat herders!
