Yeah I would of responded if it wasn't a cult then why are they so successful in getting parents to hate thier kids just because they don't agree, didn't Jesus say not to judge and to have love for everyone even your enemies and those that didn't greet people were just like tax collects. So the fact that you mom treat me this way is proof you don't follow the teachings of Christ just teachings of men . Didnt Paul say don't be slaves of men?

"It's a cult, mom."
by schnell inmy mom has been extensively texting me, trying to argue that the un ngo scandal is not a big deal and that the child abuse scandal is to instigate the great tribulation.
even worse, she kept saying how great it is that the gb is imperfect and fallible and that teaching changes all the time.
maybe it was aggravation or impatience, but i finally just snapped and told her, "it's a cult, mom.".

And like someone posted above if they the GB are the true faithful and discreet slave, chosen to be Gods only channel that truth from god comes though, then why is most of the crap that they have taught over the years been ideas and teachings from other churches. 1975 was from Armstrong, Pyramidolgy was originally an idea going back as far as Isaac Newton, invisible presence came from Mrs white and the beginnings of the seventh Adventist day church.
End times dates from the book of Daniel and the end of the gentile times came from a book written by an Englishman in London before 1844 (can't remember the title) . So much of what they teach as thier bible truths came from somebody else, I'm not even sure if they ever had an original thought.

When leaving was due to "Sin" and not Apostasy
by Cat2016 init has been 18 years since i decided to leave and fade away, and at that time i was feeling a lot of pressure that i wasn't doing enough, didn't fit in with the folks in my congregation, and was unhappy in my young jw marriage.
needless to say i recklessly went and had an affair that left me pregnant.
i did not know what to do, i panicked and got major anxiety.

If your still a bible believer then just read the sermon on the mount and maybe a couple of small books like Ephesians and Galatians you'll soon realize that thier teachings seemed to be all about love especially those taught by the character they call Jesus. Wasn't about works Ephesians 2:8-9 not judgment not doing things for religious leaders or having to follow any man but one simple thing , Have love for one another!!!!

Proverbs 4:18 "light gets brighter"
by stuckinarut2 inwe are all familiar with the classic use by the society of proverbs 4:18 about "light getting brighter".
they say it applies to revealed truth, and doctrinal changes etc.. have you ever just read that chapter (and even the surrounding chapters) in full??.
it has nothing to do with doctrinal changes or teachings.. it has to do with acquiring wisdom and life skills in order to live a successful life.

Isn't all of thier doctrine based on taking scriptures out of context.

Why blame the Watchtower?
by deegee inif god has a relationship with every christian and every christian is praying to him then wouldn't he tell every christian the same thing so that christians would agree on matters of doctrine and practice?.
it is certainly puzzling why sincere and devout people equally seek god's will and pray to him yet they all come up with different answers so that there are approximately 40,000 different christian denominations (center for the study of global christianity (csgc) at gordon-conwell theological seminary).. before his death, jesus called for agreement among his followers rather than division (john 17:20-21).
he declared that he would send the holy spirit to guide persons into all the truth (john 14:16 - 17, 26, john 15:26, john 16:7,13 - 15).. so shouldn't anyone who has a relationship with jesus, reads the bible, and listens to the holy spirit come to the same conclusions as others who are doing the same thing?.

The problem lies in the Bible itself. If thier was a loving god why would he write such a pile of crap? And another thought it's written that Jesus said he would reveal things to children not a bunch of old fart men.

I remember as a kid in the late 70s people talking about it still at the hall some even complaining. People razzing us out in service about the false prediction and all the excuses used over the years.
My mom denied it all but I know she has selective memory and she was knee deep into it because not only was she studying with the jws in the early 70s but also Armstrongs WWCG and he was the one who started the whole 1975 thing. But like some many I believed the excuses.
The final nail in my believing coffin was a few years ago while at an assembly in Florida mr Lett gave a talk where by he said while at bethel he didn't believe in 75 and everyone thier said he was an apostate for thinking such. I immediately thought that if everyone thier was thinking he was an apostate for not thinking 75 was the end then everyone thier was being told at bethel the end was 75, how else would the come to this conclusion?
I knew then that they had indeed taught the masses that 1975 was the end and all thier excuses was a lie. From then on I was a deep bible studying fool and looking and studying thier past history as well.

To go along with Ttdtt post ask your father to show you a scripture where god lies to his people as a make wait until later when he then stops missleading them and tells them the truth. He will never find it.
One other piont ask your father if it was ok for brothers back in the early 1970,s to sell thier homes and business and donate the money to the organization because they were told the end would happen in 1975. Then the organization takes that money and buys real estate in New York expanding thier real estate holdings.

Fossilized foot prints, how do they explain it away?
by Crazyguy inso there have been many sets of fossilized human footprints found in africa, italy, europe, britain and new mexico.
these foot prints are thought to be anywhere from 20,000 to 2 million years old.
so what do christians and jws do to try to explain these away.
-
Crazyguy
Well how old the earth maybe according to them isn't really what this thread was about. It seems to me that scientists don't really ever think that a foot print of a humanoid in rock is ever just 6000 year old or newer, they all seem to believe these foot prints are very old and unless the jws pull the Satan did it argument they have nothing.

Did anyone else go to this weeks midweek meeting?
by NikL inin the congregation bible study, the book addressed how "truth" is progressive.... 18 just as jehovah progressively revealed truths about the kingdom in the period leading up to 1914, he continues to do so during the time of the end.
as chapters 4 and 5 of this book will show, over the past 100 years, god’s people have had to adjust their understanding on a number of occasions.
does that fact mean that they do not have jehovah’s backing?

This should be waking even more up but I'm sure most were half asleep during the study. In my hall it's mostly about socializing except for the few hardcore nut jobs. This book could be another used to throw in the face of elders during a Jc showing that the idiots at the top are just that idiots.
These guys are so stupid that after the great clean out of the early 80's one of the writing department brothers that was able to escape by just a hair was contacted and asked to work on making the insight books. So here's a guy working in putting together thier new encyclopedias and he's not at bethel and really no longer a believer of thier crap, doing the work. Crazy right!
