This Weekend's Watchtower Study "What You Vow, Pay" from April issue
by BluesBrother injust some random thoughts here... theme scripture is matt.5: 33 .
we already had a thread explaining that jesus added a "but" after those words.
however, few would argue against the principle of keeping one's word.

48% Capacity at Kingdom Halls - A post on reddit
by berrygerry inthere was a letter read this week, followed by a talk about all the changes that are coming in the next couple of months regarding merging congregations in the area (va/md/dc) - the letter said that the kh's in the area are only being filled to 48% capacity.
this was music to my ears as i have noticed the decline in attendance in all the neighboring congregations.
they will sell some kingdom halls and merge some congregations.

Didn't they announce something like 300 KHs to be closed in Spain a few years ago?

How do you talk to a child that believes Jehovah/Armageddon is real
by Anony Mous ini'm having some serious issues with my child, she is now 5 and her mother is teaching her all sorts of things regards god, jehovah is real, in heaven, pray if you're scared, etc.
the problem is the kid is scared of demons at night and also conflicted that i don't believe, she also figured out jehovah doesn't actually help her not to be scared.. i've tried explaining that i'm there for her, watching over at night.
i've tried introducing her to various churches and beliefs so she understands there is a difference in believes and she likes those churches better than kingdom hall.

I would start by showing her a story or two in the Bible and how it wasn't a real story just a made up one. Use Sargon the great to debunk Moses and sience and archeological evidence to debunk the flood . Ice core samples and trees older then flood as proof it never happened.

Just the basics are costing to much. My wife had a friend sister in her hall . Single woman in her 40s holding down three jobs just to pay the bills. She doesn't go to meetings much anymore because of it and of course isn't mentioned or talked about in a kind way anymore as well.

What's happening to the Seventh World Power?
by fulltimestudent inin the imagination of many christians (jws included) the biblical texts tell of each succeeding world power winning its position through the power of its armies, on the battlefield.
even the yhwh/jesus combo is imagined as winning in an enormously destructive battle.. the knorr/franz nomination for the world power no.7 - the anglo/american alliance certainly gained and still maintains its hegemony via its military power.
its battle fleets armed with the most destructive power in history patrol the world.

The whole seven powers over Israel is in itself a major problem. Let review, Egypt then the Hyksos also known as the Amorites. Then the Egyptians again. The Assyrians The Babylonians , Persians, Greeks, Romans, Persians again , Arabs, offspring of the mongols, Ottomans, British, Kazar Jews. These are most of the peoples that ruled over Palestinian at one time or another, and I'm sure I missed some.

A JW explains Blood Fractions
by OrphanCrow ini was looking around from some information on the wt's stance concerning the use of stem cells, and i came across this article on a defending jehovah's witnesses blog.. rather than informing the reader all that much about stem cells, the author diverts the conversation into a discussion of "blood fractions" (*note: the term "blood fractions" appears to be another one of those wt bloodspeak terms coined by the wt.
"blood components" or "blood products" are the terms used more frequently by the medical world.
"fractions" implies tiny amounts).

The most important thing to think about is how many JW woman are going to die at Armageddon because they breast fed their children? Breast milk contains roughly 1 million white blood cells per drop.
In other parts of the world where the milk drank by JWs is not properly filtered to get rid of most of the white blood cells like they do in the US because it makes the milk thick and lumpy, how many men woman and children of the JW faith going to die during Jah 's judgment? I'm afraid a lot of JWs are going to die that day.

Has the Bible been redacted so that YAHWEH can be promoted to EL's position as Almighty God?
by I_love_Jeff infor background, read: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/yahweh, the section, "iron age i: el, yahweh, and the origins of israel.
" "el and his sons made up the assembly of the gods, each member of which had a human nation under his care, and a textual variant of deuteronomy 32:8–9 describes the sons of el, including yahweh, each receiving his own people.
"el, the kind, the compassionate,' 'the creator of creatures,' was the chief of the canaanite gods, and he, not yahweh, was the original 'god of israel'—the word 'israel' is based on the name el rather than yahweh.

I think there's one thing that David and I can agree on and that is religious writtings go back thousands and thousands of years and have been changed redacted changed and changed again to suit the purposes of the people in their area of the world and in their time and belief system. What we have today is just a melding of these beliefs and thier writings.

Let's get back to the subject a bit. One interesting observation that I have found is the name El-shaddai. People have said this means god almighty or god most high. Others have said it means god of the mountain. The first two meanings have stuck with most people and are written that way in the Bible .
Yet when you look at bible verses like in Judah and 2kings we get a clearer understanding. In Judah is says the lord was with him yet he could not beat the nations of the valleys because they had iron chariots. In 2kings the leader of the area we call Syria today gets beat by the Israelites but is told by his advisors to come back with another army and fight them in the valley because thier gods are mountain gods.
There is also a writting about a guy named Balam or Peor , same guy that beats his talking donkey in the Bible. This writting that's not in the Bible again talks about mountains gods and uses the term Shaddai. Both Baal and El were mountains gods. Other clues are in the Bible about thier worship of Baal and El too. There are plenty of descriptions of Yahweh that match that of El and Baal.
El was a god of covenants lived in a tent or tabernacle on a mountain top. Baal flew around on a chariot in the clouds and battled a sea monster as did Yahweh when he defeated Rahab. El had 70 sons or offspring so did Gideon.
Now as far a Judaism goes let's look at just one of their teachings. The sabbath this most holy days is a day their god told them to rest . But when you look at earlier writtings about the idea of a Sabbath in ancient Sumerian writtings this idea was a bit different. In the older writting the gods had just killed off most of mankind with a flood so they took a day of rest called Sabet or Sabit (can't remember the exact spelling) . In this earlier story as they rested they ate meat that had been sacrificed to them by Atrahasas and later Upanishtim and again later by Noah . So the earliest stories the gods were resting for killing off most of mankind and in time it got changed to a day of rest for mankind. So anyway all religion is guilty of taking ideas from previous cultures or religions and changing them to suit thier needs.
