I’m just saying it seems as though imperial Russian came along about 1700s, much of Europe had already developed by then. German states were already under the Holy Roman Empire , France , Spain, Austria-Hungry all under the control of the pope. Early Russia around Moscow was controlled by the Vikings other northern Russia cities were under their control too. I’m not sure how you can show a connection between Russia and Rome. Sure the Russians took on the names Cesar’s called themselves Czars with their monarchy, but what else?

The True Heir of the Roman Empire was not the Anglosphere, or Western Europe - It was the Russian Imperial Empire.
by fulltimestudent inmay i recommend this podcast discussing the russian revolution.
its made by a the conversation, an academic web-site, and features interviews with a number of historians.
i recommend it because an in-depth knowledge of history will protect your thinking from the shallow historical interpretation evident in the jws concept of a progression of world powers and the view of ww1 being a world war.

Important Question about Bible Examiner Vol. XXI No. 1 (whole No. 313), October 1876, pages 27, 28
by Saename inso i was just comparing several quotes from different watchtower publications related to 1914. in my experience, pre–1914 publications point to this year as the end, and post–1914 publications point to this year as the start of the last days.
so i was reading awake!
from 1973 january 22 p. 8 where it claims that jehovah's witnesses have always pointed to year 1914 as the beginning of the last days.

Ok maybe I’m wrong that the book Time at hand published in 1889 was his first book but I do believe it was his first in the study in the scripture series. I’ll have to go check the published dates of the other books I have.
I will say this , he may have not believed that all people not of his sect would die at Armageddon but he did write that Armageddon was to take place in 1914. I think both he and Rutherford (for awhile) believed that all their followers would go to heaven and the rest of mankind would be on the earth having issues or suffering or something to that effect.

Imperial Russia came on the seen about 300 years after the fall of the eastern Roman Empire. Before this powers in Italy were already consolidated and had formed the Holy Roman Empire . Charlemagne had already consolidate a large part of Europe and it too had come under the control of the Pope. I’m not sure where your going with this?

Like I stated over at reddit , I own , went out and bought the oldest printed versions of the first 3 books that Russel wrote. His first was The Time at Hand, 1889 , and he’ wrote in several places that Armageddon was to happen in 1914. His second book was confirmation that the great pyramid proved that his prophecy of Armageddon in 1914 was indeed correct.

Is the Bible truly inspired?
by MrRoboto inso i was reading the book of daniel, starting with chapter 4 (nebuchadnezzar's famous tree chopping/banding dream where the 7 times is introduced) but i noticed that when you don't cherry pick verses and just read straight thru - it really seems like some children's book that was poorly written.
even though the borg says that this book as written by daniel, chapter 4 is clearly written by "king nebuchad·nezzar to all the peoples, nations, and language groups dwelling in all the earth" after the tree chopping business.
) of the rest of the chapters seem to be written in 3rd person (odd, if you are writing about your experiences).

It’s hard to stay a believers when you read books and passages like the ones you mentioned. As you read you find mistakes , scientific, mathematical, historical etc.. The book of Daniel has many of these for example the first chapter gets the time line of when the king of Babylon starts his reign comparing it to that of the kings of Jerusalem. In a later chapter the writer mentions Darius the Mede yet there and never been a Darius the Mede. He is obviously meaning Darius the Persian even mentioning a family member Xerxes his father. But he gets that wrong too, Xerxes is Darius son not his father.
Mistakes like these can be found throughout the Bible. David killed Goliath in one book of the Bible yet Saul didn’t seem to know who it was that killed him even though David was at his tent all the time. Another book states some one else killed Goliath so modern writer changed the passage to say it was the brother of Goliath. Then there’s the gospels with stories about Jesus yet again each gospel is different in both the death and birth stories of this messiah.

Darwin's lack of evidence
by Half banana inwhile making bread this morning and between answering the door and phone calls, i listened on steam radio to the programme in our time with melvyn bragg.
his panel of experts explained how the discovery of thousands of bird fossils has revolutionised our perception of avian evolution.
i recall watchtower literature smugly presenting darwin’s admissions in his origin of the species that the geological evidence for bird evolution is “imperfect” in fact missing.

I read that Darwin didn’t even think anything about the finches and that it was another scientist that he gave these birds to that identified them and then made the connection that these had evolved.

Revelations 5:9-10 was an eye opener for
me when I was waking up. In the inter linear it says they reign on the earth and no mention of being kings just priests. So according to the actual Greek I found that no where in the New Testament does it say any Christian will be a king. But more importantly these verses show the whole idea of a special cast of humans exalted to kings and ruling over the earth is complete bullshit.

JC letter of invitation. Do they always get signed?
by StarTrekAngel ini was just shown a jc letter from a friend and i noticed that the bottom of it was signed by tree elders.
the letter specifically stated that it was an invitation to a "judicial committee" due to the brother having a marital relationship that was not aligned with bible principles.. i am asking because i remember reading experiences of brothers who demanded their jc be arranged over certified mail with signed letters to which elders refused to do.
since they could not get this done the matter was dropped and no dfing ever happened.

Uber Cart Witnessing at the State Fair
by truth_b_known inlast thursday i bunch of us working decided we were going to head down to the state fair and badge our way in to get a fletcher's corny dog for lunch.
we had to go to a specific gate to park and show our credentials to get in.
this meant driving halfway around the perimeter of the entire fairgrounds.
