  JWs aren't stupid

  the title is a bit of click bait.

  but here's the alternative title: what stupid beliefs/ideas did you have while an active jw.. i think the majority of jws that don't have obvious mental health issues are not stupid, just un/under-educated.

  for example, i now accept evolution as a thing, not a controversy or conjecture.

  Today's WT. Jephthah's Daughter - Virgin Slave or Crispy Critter?

  i whiled away the time today in the wt researching the above question on line.

  it seems to me that there is more evidence to say that the account simply depicts the poor nameless child/woman as being toast.

  the idea of her going into "tabernacle service" is completely fabricated and has no basis in scripture.

  Yeah the scriptures clearly say she was toast. I don't think there was any evidence that she could work at the tabernacle since she was female. Maybe as a prostitue at the temple of ashurah. But no evidence of woman working at the tabernacle or later fictitious temple of Solomon.

  Is shunning unscriptual?

  international version 1 cor 5:11. but now i am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler.

  do not even eat with such people.. if shunning is wrong.

  .how does one explain this scripture?.

  I think the clear idea was to shun one in the congregation that's active in sining. Once he stops then welcome him back, and only if his sining is a threat the congregation. This is inline with Jesus illustrations about the prodigal son as well as his comments about treating someone as a man of the nations and forgiveness 77 times and finally love. One should always ask before he does a thing is it loving ? Is kicking someone out of the congregation because they had sex with thier boyfriend loving? Is shunning this person for this sin loving. Is treating someone like a peace of dirt because they sinned , love? Is not even greeting this person in public when seeing them on the street inline with what Jesus said at Mathew 5 ? Is Jesus a Christians master or is it Paul or John?

  Sanchy, you make good points for those that believe the bible is infallible. Jesus I believe is also the one that talks about if you have an issue to hear it with the older ones at the front gate of the city. This is where people would gather to do business among other things and it was sure to be crowded. This way the accused could express himself and people could hear and make sure that if he was judged unfairly they would hear about it. Instead of back door secret meetings.

  I think it's pretty obvious that the money goes to investing in more real estate in New York or London.

  How Long Does This Religion Have Left?

  the generation that will be no means pass away have passed away.. the 144,000 were sealed up in 1935, oh, no wait, we got that wrong, we still have some.. russel is the faithful and wise servant... oh, no he wasn't it was me, rutherford... no, actually, we got that wrong it's knorr... erm, no we mean the governing body.. shunning is pagan, true christians would never do that (1946)... oh, actually, we should do that too.. the revelation book has been re-written.. the un is the satan's visible organisation.. wtbs signs up for fellowship with the un in 1991.. exposed in the guardian newspaper so ends it's fellowship in 2001.. the greatest man book is now obsolete and replaced with another jesus book.. the mags are reduced in pages.. encouraged to use tablets instead of actual books to save paper (money).

  halls being sold off.. congregations sharing halls.. society owned buildings being sold off.. video pertitioning for money only last year to fund a new building.. bethelites reduced.. missionaries sent back home.. young members leaving.. long time members discovering the history and leaving.. how long do you think this religion has left?

  i cant see it being here in another 100 years.

  Pale.emperor, the change at Micah 6:8 wasn't just from other bible translations they changed it from thier own. Just look at one of thier older black or red bibles, the one before the new silver one.

  The bigger picture

  i've been awake now for a good while.

  about a year.

  in that year i've done a lot of soul searching and thinking about god and religion etc.... as i'm sure most all of us have who've left this cult.

  I totally agree, the sooner man puts away this god concept the sooner we can live life to its fullest. We can also solve a lot more problems in the world because we would realize it's all on us to do so and not just kick the can down the road thinking God will fix it. One last thing how many people have died in the name of a god or in the belief they would be rewarded for dying in the fight by being resurrected into a afterlife. People would be a lot less willing to fight if they new that if they died that was it. This idea of God has really held mankind back.

  Well for starters you will find the writings credited to this guy Paul contradict the writings attributed to Jesus. Did Jesus not eat with and associate with tax collectors did he not say not to judge? Read the the last half of Mathew chapter 5 , what does Jesus say there? Also Paul says that eating meat sacrificed to idols is ok so long as your not stumbling the one your eating with and Jesus seems to concur where at Mathew chapter 15 Jesus says "nothing entering into a man can defile him" . Yet in the book of revelations Jesus is quoted as saying to not eat meat sacrificed to idols. So it would seem as though Jesus is contradicting Paul and himself. Oops Houston we have a problem.

  I'm not sure when thier new bible was created but to change Micah 6:8 to say what it says now shows they were desperate back then. Now with this new convention they are showing thier real desperate. Thier going to ramp up the rank and file again but the world is not a mess like it was in the 60 s and early 70s . It's also not like the 80s either when the Cold War was still at it. It's going to be a lot harder to get thier dooms day message to stick when there's relative peace. This hopefully is them blowing thier last wadd.
