Your spot on, God says in the Ten Commandments do not commit murder the n it's ok to make an army and go murder a bunch of people that aren't you. And like you stated why would they need an army if gods got angels?

Why is religion in general so obsessed with what people choose to do with their willies and vaginas?
by jambon1 inwhat was it in the evolution of religion that got them so hung up about what people do with their genitalia?.
i mean, the (mis)use of genitalia is up there with murdering another human being in terms of badness.. and in the 21st century, we have a situation where in the jw religion, it's deemed as acceptable for three middle aged/old men to sit a teenage girl down and ask her the details of her use of her genitals.
to any normal person this is intrusive, completely inappropriate and bordering on deviancy.. why they so obsessed?.

Religion started off with sex being a good thing. A continuation of life etc. The God that won The popularity in most pantheons was the fertility gods with the creator gods being pushed aside. The mother goddesses were extremely admired too.
I think sex and issues over how it done and to who etc came later with weirdo freaks and thier abstentions with the subject.

James you have some of that backwards Enki is the good god god of wisdom and god of the earth and water. He would be considered Satan if the connection can be made. Also he is the God that warned man that his brother Enlil the sky god was going to kill them all with a flood. Enki with a female god made man not Enlil so yes he's the good guy and Enlil is the bad god who wanted to kill mankind because they were to noisy.
But let's not forget so much has changed that it's really difficult to make a direct connection. Before he Enlil was the god that wanted to kill man there's even older stories that the god Anu his father wanted to kill man. These stories change and the gods change too depending on who's telling the story and what city you were living in. Also many god assumed the powers and identity of the older gods.

Religions and governments from the beginning of time have used the idea of a God to lord over the people. God gives them and them alone The authority to rule and if your not a slave to them you'll die and be sent to hell or not go to and kind of decent after life.
This is nothing new and the cult likes it. The cult of Jehovahs witnesses is much closer in the way they act to the old chatholic church then most would realize. They even wrote in a WT in the 1950's that if it wasn't for the laws of the land they would like nothing more then to kill apostates.

Let's hope as more and more of these cases and stories get out, the cult will just throw in the towel and take the money and run, it will be better for all!

Also the word and the angel that's called cherubs, is from the religion of Zoroastrian. More proof the story was just a retelling of an older myth. Even the Sumerians wrote that they had contact with another older place called Arrata. This city may have been found east in modern day Iran. They found some religious artifacts of scorpionmen, again another mythological creature mentioned in sumeria and again in the book of Revelations.
Zoroastra comes from this part of the world and the concept of a bad god and a good god come from this religion too.

666 or 616? Do we have to choose a number or could it be both?
by fulltimestudent ini'm sure that most longer term readers on this list know that the use of the number in the revelation was a 'code' using the jewish concept that assigned number values to the letters of the hebrew alphabet.. a promoter of modern judaism ( dr. eliyahu lizorkin-eyzeneberg) explains:.
today gematria is well-known as a jewish interpretive method that assigns numerical values of hebrew letters to words, phrases and/or sentences.
then, by adding them together, seeks to determine their deeper meaning.

David-jay one thing to remember yes people do believe that possibly a new god was introduced to the Jews from the area you mentioned but let's not forget that the writers said this god was the god of the forefathers and gave this god the same atributes as El and Baal Hadad.
There is also some scriptures talking about a mountain in the north called Zaphon and this was Baals mountain the scriptures in question transfers this mountain and its holy place to another to the south. I'll have to look it up but again it's as if they transferred the mountain and the God down to thier mountain nearer to them.
