Notice how they blame the "weight" not on their burdensome religion, but on things like personal projects and hobbies.

August 15th WT - Eliminate your unnecessary hobbies and projects
by truthseeker inthe third study article in the august 15th wt is entitled "tired, but not tiring out.".
it is of interest that the borg are further reducing the quality of life for their members by the following paragraph (pg 24, para 11).
sometimes what complicates our lives is, not the pursuit of more things, but what we do with the things we already have.. some may experience emotional fatigue as a result of challenging health problems, the loss of loved ones, or other.

Completely Rediculous WT Quotes Re: Music

Their dire warnings, printed and voiced as each music fad (such as disco) come and go are totally laughable.
When Elvis was shaking things up, the dire warnings given then are now totally laughable too. It all goes to show that music is pretty darn freaking harmless and that religions and parents (except in perhaps the most drastic cases) as well need not sweat such small stuff.

They are always "in" as far as I'm concerned.
I wear black sneakers to work, since I do alot of walking, and no way I'm gonna wear black socks. At home, I wear another pair of black sneakers, and in summer I wear the over-the foot socks that don't show above the sneaker. In cooler weather I wear white socks, pushed down, with my black sneakers. I always wear plain white - no stripes on socks! Striped socks look dorky*.
I never wear white sneakers. And I hate black socks.
When I was still (barely) active as a jw, I'd wear white socks to the meetings. And I wore black high-top sneakers too, near the very end of my KH days.
*In the 1970s, the look was totally different. I wore white, striped socks, pulled up over my calf, with shorts that were very short. When I see film of NBA players in the 70s, I can't believe that look was actually "in". It looks totally ridiculous now.....and one day, it'll probably be back.

If Jehovah let his name be removed from the Bible - how accurate can it be?
by truthseeker inthis question has always troubled me.. suppose you write a book.
it becomes a best seller.
then some little fart comes along and replaces your name with anonymous.. now this book can be published and edited by just about anybody who chooses to be "anonymous".. end result - your original work is lost and some revised edition has replaced it, written by "anonymous".

Good post Randy, thanks. I actually read the whole thing in one sitting - rare for me when looking at a computer screen.
Actually, if a religion is to be called "Witnesses" today, then it would seem to me that "Jesus' Witnesses" would be a more accurate name, based on Acts 1:8.

UN Ban On Religion
by laurelin in.
does anyone here know anything about the supposed resolution that the un have about banning all religion?.
i've done a google search but can't find anything and i'd be grateful for any help on this.. thanks.

I can't see how the UN could possibly enforce such a ban. The US and Coalition forces have enough trouble now with some insurgents in Iraq. How could those fanatics be convinced to give up their religion? Then, what about the rest of earth's relgious population?

So, I think that God deliberately moves our relationship with Him not just in terms of His simply "existing" (as Yahweh basically means), but into a particular relationship with Him, where we may exist (live forever) because of His salvation.
At any rate, the WT is zealously trying to focus attention away from personally relating to God thru Christ (tho' they give him occasional lip service!), and keep everyone riveted on a name that is great, but still impersonal... And perhaps the "losing" of His name was not only allowed, but intentional, so that if we were intent on being accurate about names, Jesus is the only thing that we'd be corralled into using, from any angle.
Very interesting post, bebu. Certainly, Jesus takes center stage in the NT, and yet the Society clings strongly to Jehovah this, Jehovah that - while his name fades from the NT....no, wait, drops like a stone from the NT in comaprison with the OT.
Earlier in jw history, there was more emphasis on Jesus. The wts then began emphasizing Jehovah instead. For example, they removed many songs from their song book that extolled Christ and replaced them with songs praising Jehovah mainly.
To me, this was a concerted move to differentiate them with religions of Christendom, and in and of itself has no real support scripturally, for the reasons you point out.

Tell us about your avitar.
by carefully faded ini loved the recent topic asking what each of our screen names means.
great question as i have always wondered about quite a few of our screen names.
as i was reading the responses, i looked at holey cheeses - king of the juice's avitar and thought about how i have been wondering for the past three years, what the hell that is a picture of.

My avatar is a pic of Elton John, the original Rocket Man. But I use the avatar here for another reason - it has much to do with Jehovah's Witnesses!
The picture is from the cover of Elton John's Rock Of The Westies album, which was released on October 1, 1975. As most of us know, that was the "appropriate time for God to act" according to the WTS in their book Life Everlasting In The Freedom Of The Sons Of God and subsequent publications as well.
