I see they're still pushing the same stupid examples that they did when I was a kid - forgoing a career and an education and instead making choices more in line with what they want jws to do. I wonder how many jw parents from my generation will be dumb enough to fall for this crap yet again and push it on their kids. Of course, many aren't falling for it a second time around, hence the stepped-up efforts of the WTS to sell this stuff yet again. It's all about control.

Grading of Disfellowshipping Offenses
by RAYZORBLADE injust putting this out to you.. have you encountered, or noticed on occasion how what you were disfellowshipped for, also dictates who will associate with you, post-jw?
yes, i'm talking about those beloved ex-jws/df'd/da'd/apostates.. by that, i mean, if you were, let's say, disfellowshipped for scriptural/doctrinal issues, perhaps in the ex-jw world, you hold yourself or others of that ilk, in higher esteem?.
those that were disfellowshipped for smoking, heavy drinking or drug use, perhaps as previously not strong people.. those that were disfellowshipped for sexual misconduct: (file under: other) and similar to the above.. it's interesting.

Well, happy anniversary to this thread! Obviously, I didn't see it the first time 'round.
To some degree, I'd hope we'd have some standards. For example, if a person is df'd for not agreeing with jw doctrine, I'd be more than happy to welcome him aboard. But if someone posted "hey, I embezzeled $250,000 and those overly strict jws had the gall to df me!", well, I hope we wouldn't roll out the red carpet.
That example is a bit extreme, but my point is that the board as a group does seem to have certain moral boundaries, and I can understand why.
Personally, I'd like to think I treat all members the same (like dogs!), but at times I am less sympathetic toward some. For instance, if someone comes here saying, in effect 'well, my boyfriend and I just have to shag and the elders just don't understand' well, something like that is such a clear-cut violation of the standards of most religions that I just don't feel much pity. Now if someone comes along and says 'they df'd me for smoking' (pr taking blood, or professional boxing) then I'm sympathetic because I think dfing for such things is a total stretch even Biblically speaking.

How many remember the 15 min break Between the Public Tlk and WT Study?
by Wasanelder Once inas kid i remember a break of 15 minutes between the public talk and the wt study.
all the new ones and "weak" ones ran out to smoke.
loved to see the attendant round them up to come back in when the droning began again.

Yes, I remember those breaks. They gave people more incentive to leave than to stay around. But they also made the meeting all that much longer.

Outof, I had some similar feelinga a few months ago. I thought that I too was nearing the end of my jwd shelf-life. But, I after lying low for a couple months, with just a post here and there, I found myself stopping by because I wanted to - not because of some sense of need on my part.I still don't post nearly as often as I used to, nor do I even attempt to read as many threads. But I do still find the board very informative -and of late that's been mainly on non-jw related topics, or the Bible in general. So even if you're all jw'd out, if you feel like it, just frequent the board to the degree you're comfortable with.

Exodus 16 - Manna
by rocketman inshortly after the exodus from egypt, the bible account of events records that god provided manna for the israelites to eat (exodus 16:10-15).
the israelites asked "what is it?

AllAlong - Exodus 16:13,14 mention that in the morning, "there was a layer of dew around the camp. When the dew was gone, thin flakes like frost appeared on the desert floor". Psalm 78:24 says that God "rained down manna for the people to eat" and in vs 25 that "men ate the bread of angels." So it did have an association with dew.
At 2 Corinthinas 8:15, Paul quotes the heart of Exodus 16:18 and applies it to Christian sharing. Paul does not mention the manna itself, but the lesson found in the collection process.

Shortly after the exodus from Egypt, the bible account of events records that God provided manna for the Israelites to eat (Exodus 16:10-15). The Israelites asked "what is it?" (vs 15), and the word manna was derived from that very question.
Could manna have been a naturally occuring substance? There are scholars and others who contend that some biblical miracles can be explained by natural means. There are problems however in concluding that manna occured naturally. Here are some of those problems:
- The Israelites did not know what the manna was. Granted, they had lived in Egypt prior to this incident, but would they have been ignorant of a food that could be found so close to Egypt? The book of Genesis notes that Jacob sent food to Egypt in advance of the second visit by his sons (Gen 43:11), and there were trade routes in the area, so it seems likely that most foods from the region would have eventually found their way into Egypt, and if manna was naturally occuring, the Israelites would likely have known what it was.
- Manna had certain properties not associated with any known food. It would be available for only six days each week (Ex 16:26,27). It would smell and become infested with maggots if not gathered and kept according to instructions (Ex 16:19-25). Certainly, there is no known substance that has such properties.
- Manna was available in the desert, throughout Israel's sojourn. No matter where they were, they found it.
- A sample was kept for future generations, suggesting a unique and noteworthy food.
There are some explanations that have been given for manna. For example, it's been associated with a sticky honeydew that is excreted in the Sinai area in early summer by various insects. This honeydew solidifies rapidly by means of evaporation.
But such a honeydew still does not fit the characterizations given manna in the Biblical text. Whatever it was - a provision by God or a natural substance the use of which was embellished to fit a fanciful legend - the question "What is it?" was, and still is, very appropriate.
Your thoughts on this "bread from heaven"?

One thing is for sure - you're making a good choice. The Corolla is a fine car and rates very highly in that class of small sedans.

I prefer the silver. My second choice would be the charcoal. Third would be the red - but I don't like a bright, fire red as much as a darker red that is almost a burgundy. Next, I'd go with the blue. My last choice would be white.

Kind of reminds me of that show "Dinosaurs" (actual actors in suits) that aired some years ago. The baby called dad "not the momma".
