I hope they can fly it again, but the design is showing its age, and now that more 'eyes' in the way of high-resolution cameras are trained on it, I think we're seeing some of the problems with reusable craft design that must be addressed in the next generation of such vessels. Such problems (debris damage, hanging tile fillers, torn thermal blankets) have only been seen after the craft landed, or were discovered too late (or too little was done upon discovery), as in the tragic case of the Columbia shuttle.

I just watched the STS-114 Space Shuttle fly over head
by Elsewhere ini normally don't wake up this early in the morning just to watch the space shuttle fly by, but this was a speciall occasion.
this was the last time the shuttle will be visible in this area before it lands.
there is also the fact that the shuttle fleet is being grounded again -- maybe forever.

Wow, someone who posts here is actually advancing in "Jehovah's organization".
You're still 'okay' bucko, if you still want to lead some semblance of a normal life. But, if you plan on getting baptized, lookout. Keep in mind also that even as a UBP, announcements can still be made if you fail to live up to certain jw commitments. It's sort of like having one foot in the door...or the grave.

Why One "Inspired" Bible...but endless "literature" about it?
by upside/down in"christians" are so proud of their one bible... the most widely distributed...blah blah blah...and thus it must be "god's" word.... yet the wts (in particular) is constantly producing new "literature"...why?.
can't they comment on what they "know" about a certain scripture and leave it at that...i mean how much real "new light" is there?.
they just rehash the same old crap over and over.... cheeezus...print one book...and then just "revise" it as needed... oh wait...i thought they had one book...the bible.... why do the interpretations need interpretation...???.

Remember, God is like the Billionaire's billionaire; he's got it all and then some. Why we waste time defending His interests is beyond me. Let him spend a little; our time is more valuable than his. After all, he's got eternity and we've got a very few years at best.
Interesting point Terry. JWs (and other religions) speak of 'defending' God. My response is 'he's a big boy, let him defend himself'. People get various impressions about God from reading the Bible, and as I see it, it's not up to me to explain God to anyone. When I think of defending or standing up for someone, I tend to think of the poor and defenseless among us, not an all-powerful being, as needing an advocate.

New Bethel/Missionary Requirements.
by Doubtfully Yours in.
when they announced the meetings for aspiring bethelites and missionaries, they've lowered the ages of admittance.. also, to become a bethelite the person doesn't need to be a pioneer any longer.
any publisher in good standing, male or female, was encourage to attend such recruiting meeting.. i guess the need is greater now.. dy

Why 1914 is utterly true (and so is 607 B.C.E.)
by Terry in1914 is a very significant date for true believers.
faithful and eager students of the scriptures figured out (and "proved") jesus would return to kill the wicked and reward the meek in 1874. the signs were obvious.
but, it didn't happen.

I see they're still pushing the same stupid examples that they did when I was a kid - forgoing a career and an education and instead making choices more in line with what they want jws to do. I wonder how many jw parents from my generation will be dumb enough to fall for this crap yet again and push it on their kids. Of course, many aren't falling for it a second time around, hence the stepped-up efforts of the WTS to sell this stuff yet again. It's all about control.

Grading of Disfellowshipping Offenses
by RAYZORBLADE injust putting this out to you.. have you encountered, or noticed on occasion how what you were disfellowshipped for, also dictates who will associate with you, post-jw?
yes, i'm talking about those beloved ex-jws/df'd/da'd/apostates.. by that, i mean, if you were, let's say, disfellowshipped for scriptural/doctrinal issues, perhaps in the ex-jw world, you hold yourself or others of that ilk, in higher esteem?.
those that were disfellowshipped for smoking, heavy drinking or drug use, perhaps as previously not strong people.. those that were disfellowshipped for sexual misconduct: (file under: other) and similar to the above.. it's interesting.

Well, happy anniversary to this thread! Obviously, I didn't see it the first time 'round.
To some degree, I'd hope we'd have some standards. For example, if a person is df'd for not agreeing with jw doctrine, I'd be more than happy to welcome him aboard. But if someone posted "hey, I embezzeled $250,000 and those overly strict jws had the gall to df me!", well, I hope we wouldn't roll out the red carpet.
That example is a bit extreme, but my point is that the board as a group does seem to have certain moral boundaries, and I can understand why.
Personally, I'd like to think I treat all members the same (like dogs!), but at times I am less sympathetic toward some. For instance, if someone comes here saying, in effect 'well, my boyfriend and I just have to shag and the elders just don't understand' well, something like that is such a clear-cut violation of the standards of most religions that I just don't feel much pity. Now if someone comes along and says 'they df'd me for smoking' (pr taking blood, or professional boxing) then I'm sympathetic because I think dfing for such things is a total stretch even Biblically speaking.

How many remember the 15 min break Between the Public Tlk and WT Study?
by Wasanelder Once inas kid i remember a break of 15 minutes between the public talk and the wt study.
all the new ones and "weak" ones ran out to smoke.
loved to see the attendant round them up to come back in when the droning began again.

Yes, I remember those breaks. They gave people more incentive to leave than to stay around. But they also made the meeting all that much longer.

Outof, I had some similar feelinga a few months ago. I thought that I too was nearing the end of my jwd shelf-life. But, I after lying low for a couple months, with just a post here and there, I found myself stopping by because I wanted to - not because of some sense of need on my part.I still don't post nearly as often as I used to, nor do I even attempt to read as many threads. But I do still find the board very informative -and of late that's been mainly on non-jw related topics, or the Bible in general. So even if you're all jw'd out, if you feel like it, just frequent the board to the degree you're comfortable with.
