I think my IQ just dropped 20 points...
Same recycled pics too. Looks like the Greatest Man book photos got pulled from the 'ol archives once again.

Lonelysheep beat me to it, but I was thinking 'Generation' all the way. In a sense, it's probably an anniversary for many of us. Though many didn't leave right then and there, that set of articles got the ball rolling and/or greatly contributed to our decision to leave or fade away.
I was an elder at the time, and that set of articles went a very long way in sealing the deal for me. I always list that doctrinal change, and the ridiculous logic (I know, an oxymoron) involved, as among the main reasons I finally left.
I think Lisa's mom articulated it beautifully!
"I have been duped for 30 years and now I've been instructed to change my mind in one week, and DAMMIT, I is going to do it!"
Perfectly put, Mama LDH!
as 2004 winds down and my 4th year of association at this board winds down as well, my posting stats accurately reflect a transitition that been going on for me with respect to the jw religion, a process that is quite natural and healthy.
i'm sure that many members have had a similar experience.
here's a rundown of four years here for me: .
Almost exactly a year after my intial thread-starting post, an update...
Year 5 - 183 posts. Happy to say that jw religion still rarely comes up in discussion among family. In that respect, my 5th year here was as good as my 4th. The continued decrease in posting still reflects what I feel is a healthy departure from all things jw. This year also featured a nice personal highlight - my first Apostofest, hosted by Funchback in eastern PA. Very cool guy that Funchback! Also discovered that a jwd member (siegswife) lives just minutes away from me, and met lonelysheep and Chia live and in person at the above-mentioned 'fest, which was very cool.
So even though the fading continues, I'm still very much a part of things here, and I still tune in regularly. I just don't open my trap as much as I used to.
life's been busy since i have a new girl and a new website that i am working on a daily basis (yeah, shameless plug!).
oh speaking of girlfriend, my girl said "yes!
" when i popped the question!
Ah, I just figured you were dead.
*Havn't been around much lately, but not dead either* class
first i hope this has not been posted yet,,,
(not had time to scroll) how is this for kindness?
dear abby: yesterday a young man from a religious sect rang my doorbell and pounded on my door until i opened it.
Basiago had sought $8,000 in damages, but Smith awarded her $40 for each of the two days she spent researching DiStefano's identity and a day for lost sleep, then added that to the $395 penalty for trespass under criminal statutes, plus court costs.
Blondie, shortly after this case made the papers (the incident occured not far from where I live), an elder informed me that the JW woman involved may have sought help from the WTS to pay the fine. Accoring to the elder, the reply was that the woman was "on her own".
I must emphasize that this was simply related to me in conversation by an elder, who presented no evidence to back it up. Whether the woman was merely thinking of contacting the Society, or if she actually did so, I don't know. I don't know how the elder got that information - perhaps the Society wrote to local elders and informed them that if the woman were to seek help from the congregation her costs should not be paid.
All I can relate is that an elder did tell me that she was "on her own", which, if true, I would not find very surprising.
some say it's the beatles.
they certainly did leave their mark on the world.
Of course, I'm inclined to agree with Littlerockguy and give some props to Elton John. The thing is, by asking who is "Number One" Minimus, do you mean in terms of popularity, influence, record sales, or all three and maybe other factors?
Assuming it's some combination of the above, here's a partial list of who I think are tops in the rock n' roll era, not necessarily in order of being my favorites:
Bands - The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Eagles
Solo acts - Elvis Presley, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan (influence only - the guy can't sing), Billy Joel, David Bowie
i just unsubscribed from a crafting newsletter that i have been receiving for a couple of years.
all along, i have been willing to overlook the "uber-christian" leanings because they offered some neat things like free fonts and cute scrapbooking ideas.
but today they had a feature called "customer spotlight" that just irked the heck out of me:.
Good thread.
Tomorrow I shall attend church and worship Tetrapod's appendix....btw, I think we should capitalize that...Appendix....there, that's better.
And since my daughter is home from college this weekend, I will make it a point to sit her down and tell her to beware of girls' changing rooms, to prevent possible lesbian encounters.
what was the question that he asked loc?..
what is your take on the situation?
what was the korean guy yelling when he was running from the woods?
Great (and very funny!) observations by scotsman, Captain Schmideo, and Billygoat...and in line with Captain's comment, we all know that only attractive people survive catastrophies!

Leolaia, I also wish they'd have kept Kate on NCIS. In fact, if they keep up with their seemingly endless banter and coffee-guzzling (these people come to crime scenes and seem to care more about their java fix than about the victims), I'll probably drop the show altogether.

Last night's episode was frustrating for me too, even with Terry's comments about setting things up for newcomers probably being very accurate. They are doing so much 'back fill' with this show that any forward movement occurs at a snail's pace. I get the feeling that I'll soon lose patience and Lost will lose at least one viewer....on the otehr hand, Wed nights seem to be a lousy TV night, so I'll likely keep tuning in. Btw, Tuesdays have become the best TV night of the week...The Office, Boston Legal, NCIS (fading but still watchable), and the Gina Davis as le presidente show.
