I'm currently listening to Billy Joel's box set "My Lives", which I received for Xmas. 4CDs plus one concert DVD. It's interesting hearing some of his previously unreleased material, inlcuding some demo songs that ended up with substantial changes before they appeared on albums.

right now i'm listening to a brand new released cd by opera star amelia farrugia, "joie de vivre!".
amelia was featured in the all-star lineup for last weekend's "carols in the domain" broadcast on channel seven.

Another Watchtower Christmas Lie
by gumby inwe all remember one of the arguments the society used to make christmas look bad.. they said christendom at this time of the year, see's jesus as a little baby in a manger (nativity scene), rather than the king in heaven he now is.
that's a lie.. ask any christian on this planet if they think jesus at this time is a little baby in a manger.
if he was, then mary is back on earth taking care of him and herod is out looking to kill him.

If he was, then Mary is back on earth taking care of him
Actually, Mary is back on earth, working as a stripper with the moniker "The Virgin Mary". The club she dances at, needless to say, is packed every night she works.

A few of my best moments:
Elton John in concert in Philadelphia, the 5th time I've seen his show, and he keeps getting better
Meeting a nice new friend at that concert
Getting to know a nice new friend at work and having lunch together on several occasions
My first Apostofest, at which I met Funchback, Seigswife, Lonelysheep, and Chia
Getting to know some nice new friends who get together for Karaoke (my singing voice, however, was not one of the year's highlights)

Do you have a "Confidante"?
by JH in.
do you have a person, thats very close to you that you can reveal almost anything, your joys pains, just about anything to?.
or, do you keep all your worries inside and deal with every emotion you have by yourself?.

I confide in my wife. For example, a couple days ago she asked me how I became a San Francisco 49ers fan, and I poured out my deepest feelings to her right then and there. What a load off my shoulders!

It could well be that this guy is a jw or, as you mentioned, from a similar high-control group. I agree generally with the Dear One's answer, but she probably doesn't fully comprehend what it's like to be in such a situation with a jw spouse. Many jw spouses become highly adverserial when a spouse does not participate in jw activities or wnats to lessen that participation. We certainly can't blame Abby for not fully grasping that, since it's usually only people like us, who have been throuh similar situations and who have dealt with this religion from the inside-out who really can comprehend what the guy may be going through.

Lonelysheep beat me to it, but I was thinking 'Generation' all the way. In a sense, it's probably an anniversary for many of us. Though many didn't leave right then and there, that set of articles got the ball rolling and/or greatly contributed to our decision to leave or fade away.
I was an elder at the time, and that set of articles went a very long way in sealing the deal for me. I always list that doctrinal change, and the ridiculous logic (I know, an oxymoron) involved, as among the main reasons I finally left.
I think Lisa's mom articulated it beautifully!"I have been duped for 30 years and now I've been instructed to change my mind in one week, and DAMMIT, I is going to do it!"
Perfectly put, Mama LDH!
