I often noticed a kind of distrust of people who made educated comments and who asked questions and ventured outside the realm of what was expressly printed in the publications.

Jehovah's Witnesses Take Pride In Being Ignorant
by minimus inwitnesses love to say they are in the best school available---the theocratic ministry school.
witnesses don't want you to express research on a subject when giving a comment during a meeting.
just read verbatim what is in the paragraph.

"Are you In the Truth?"
by Nickolas ini can't remember the last time i was asked that question because it has been many years.
nor do i remember my response to the questioner but it no doubt contributed to not being asked the question since.

Here's The Truth, as far as I'm concerned:
I go where the evidence takes me. Sometimes, it takes me to some uncomfortable places. But I have to face that and adjust my thinking accordingly.

KM Jan 2011 Family Worship
by dozy inthere is a big insert in the jan kingdom ministry about the family worship night (which has evolved new capital letters - like governing body.).
some helpful suggestions include the head of the household putting an agenda on the fridge door a few days ahead for the family to "build excitement and anticipation" (i kid you not.
) the provision is compared to the sabbath arrangement as a gift from god.

Most jw families didn't bother with the Family Bible Study.
They've been given a "free" night with the elimination of a separate night for the Bookstudy and they are going to take it, not devote an evening to Family worship. They will do what normal people would do - relax, watch TV, get some work done, play video games, Facebook, whatever.

My mom to my daughter: "BD party might be fun but it will make Jah sad"
by SweetBabyCheezits inwe've allow a little freedom for my jw mom to visit our daughter at lunch at the school since we're df'd now.
um, because we're idiots, maybe.
so my daughter tells me this evening that she was chatting with mom at lunch today and mentioned a birthday party she's attending this weekend.

I Quit wrote: "Poor little guy. Some children are having a party for another child's special day and Jehovah is feeling sad because this kid is getting more attention than him. Do Jehovah's Witnesses really think this whiney self-centered little cry baby is the right guy to be running the universe?"
Funniest thing I've read in quite some time!

When God breaks his own laws
by Nickolas inif one assumes that god made the universe it follows that he made it according to a very complex set of physical laws that determine how things work.
the quest to identify and understand those physical laws is at the very forefront of science and great strides have been made over the past few centuries, in particular during the last century.
we have known for only a few centuries that the earth rotates on its axis and orbits around the sun along with a number of other planets, more recently that the solar system is located in a radial arm of a spiral galaxy swirling around some enormous black hole.

I remember watching the following Star Trek Next Gen episode and wondering about whether God actually might do something similar:
The USS Enterprise-D is called to Bre'el IV to help them with their moon that is falling out of orbit and threatening the planet. As they are trying to find a way to get the moon back into its orbit, Q suddenly drops in, literally, and Picard jumps to the conclusion that Q is responsible for what is happening to the Bre'el.
In the episode, Q (stripped of his powers) suggests altering the gravitational constant of the universe, thereby altering the moon's mass. Of course, Enterprise can't do that, but they end up trying to wrap the moon in a warp field and push it. Late in the episode, a restored Q solves the problem in some undisclosed manner.
Of course, TV is one thing, reality another. But is God so powerful that he could solve the Joshua problem at the snap of a finger? I have my doubts, but if there is a God...

The problem is that this religion has its own peculiar "language", hence the feel the need to update it. Frankly, I'm not sure where they got the term "New Order" in the first place, since, to my knowledge, no such term appears in the Bible, even in their old green NWT. I remember the term being used extensively during the 60s and 70s especially.

Hey fellas, as you got older, into your early 30s, did you start finding women between their late 30s and late 40s attractive?
by miseryloveselders insomedays my dad would look at what i still call an older woman, and he'd call her attractive.
i'd look at him like dude your nuts.
i'm thinking just cuz your older doesn't mean its wrong to find younger women attractive.

Women in their 30s, 40s and 50s can look great. I've seen many, and I work with several. In fact, I think it's a credit to them and makes them even more attractive because after having babies and raising them and all that, they loook so good. Plus I look at it this way: anybody can look great when they're young - hot young women are a dime a dozen. But a woman who looks hot into her 30s, 40s and beyond is usually taking care of herself and deserves credit for that.

BIG WEEKEND JW NEWS STORY EXPOSES HEARTLESS CULT
by West70 inthe following newspaper article appears to be the original (and more lengthy and indepth) article from which associated press took their "summarized" (and less informative) story which is being picked up by a number of television stations and newspapers across the u.s. .
this better version should be forwarded to media outlets as a more informative version for their audience.
they also embrace political neutrality.

We all know that fighting in wars is against jw beliefs. Fine. But the parents still could have at least met their sons upon their arrival. That doesn't in itself mean that they support war - they are simply welcoming their boys home. The parents are taking shunning to the extreme. Many jw parents will see their DA'd/DF'd sons and daughters under far less trying circumstances.

Eyes Wide Shut pointed out " the problem with rejecting war outright is that at times it is necessary to defend agaisnt evil. The WT does not understand this. By making this statement any crazy loonatic would just be able to run rampant all over the world and people would just let it happen. I suppose to a JW to not fight Hitler was something God would have wanted rather than combat his evil plans. Their logic here is not sound. War and the participation in war is a necessary evil."
I agree; and had things been done the jw way from 1939-45, we'd all be living under the reign of the Third Reich.
I've heard talks in which elders intimated that Jehovah's will was carried out by the Allied forces. How could that be, when on principle He is supposedly opposed to all human warfare? Which is it? They want to have their cake and eat it too.
And had the Allies not fought Hitler, pograms against jws would have been launched the world over.
