Since I'm gorgeous, it's reaslly a matter of nitpicking to find areas to improve upon....but I'd like broader shoulders. I'd also like to look a bit younger. Some people say I look my age, others say I look younger, and some (like family members who feel no compunction in insulting me) say I look older. I think I do look about 5 yrs older than I actually am (did I just insult myself?)

Which meetings did you hate the most?
by JH inout of the 5 weekly meetings, here are the ones i hated the most.. in order.
1. theocratic ministry school ( i hated speaking in public) got me so nervous.. 2. service meeting ( too much crap and statistics and presentations).
3. the book study ( just a waist of time ).

I couldn't stand any of them, but in order of total uselessness and boredom-inducement:
1. Service Meeting
This thing totally sucked. The only slightly useful part may have been the Announcements. Sometimes. After that, it went straight down the toilet with demos that seldom if ever portrayed reality, and awful round-table discussions that left the audience brain-dead.
2. Public Talk
45 minutes (used to be an hour!) of more mind-numbing sleep-inducement. If the speaker was anything less than scintillating, this thing was a total drag. Sometimes, a really good speaker could salvage it.
3. Theocratic School
The only thing that keeps this from being worse is that at least there's a variety of speakers, and the parts are generally short, so things seem to move along a bit. But, it's the worst of all the meetings to prepare for, and conducting this thing, which I did for several years, was a nightmare.
4. Watchtower Study
The only thing that saved this is that the audience got to participate. But all too often, answers droned on and on, and conductors kept up a snail's pace. And why read the paragraphs? This thing could be done in 30 minutes every week, just like it is during the CO's visit.
5. Book Study
This is the lesser evil only because it's the shortest meeting.

"Razor Face"Has anybody here seen Razor Face
I Heard he's back looking for a place to lay down
Must be getting on
Needs a man who's young to walk him round
Needs a man who's young to walk him round
Oh it must be hard for the likes of you to get by
In a world that you just can't see through
And it looks so cold
How does it feel to know you can't go home
How does it feel to know you can't go home
Come on Razor Face my old friend
I'll meet you down by the truck stop inn
With a bottle of booze in the back of my car
You're a song on the lips of an aging star
Razor Face, oh amazing grace
Protects you like a glove
And I'll never learn the reason why
I love your Razor Face...I guess Elton John and Bernie Taupin have been looking for him since 1971.

ABC TV's World News Tonight aired a segment on this "museum" just this evening at 6:30 EDT. Even the Watchtower Society abandoned that notion some years back...though I do remember my fascination as a kid with the dinosaur included on the inside cover map of my first grean NWT bible. -

And why is that, anyway? ; Many of the folks on this board deserve our adulation, for their courage, their honesty in discussing,,, for surviving and moving on ... not just those who have chosen to make a study of the Watchtower.
This is a non issue,,, hero worship is FLUFF.
I don't think it can be put better than the way Talesin just wrote. And I'd wager that Alan F would be among the first to agree with her assessment.

Terry mentioned:
The Watchtower is fomenting peer pressure. They seek to divide the brothers into two groups: leisure activity slackers and busy beaver door-knockers. ; One group will resent the other. One group will shame the other. ; Gossip about who does what will commence.
This is very true and I noticed it many times over the years. The more leisure group view themselves as "down to earth" while looking upon the other jws a self-righteous. Conversely, the more zealous jws view themselves as more "balanced" (a very over-used jw word that also gets flipped and used by the leisure group), "spiritually minded", and "theocratic", and look down on the leisure group. And the gossip does indeed commence.

In an act of breathtaking journalistic irresponsibility, the August 2, 2005 Vladivostok edition of the national daily Komsomolskaya Pravda passed on to its readers a rumor that Jehovah’s Witnesses were behind the recent mass murder of six homeless people (including two children) in the regional city of Artyom. This theory was presented without any supporting evidence
Breathtaking journalistic irresponsibility indeed.
Psychologists warn that Jehovists use methods of programming the conscience that are characteristic of totalitarian religious societies
I'm not sure which Psychologists, but here to do find at something at least somewhat factual.
Terms like “false Witnesses” and “strong authoritarianism” are used throughout the article to create a terrifying image of the Jehovah’s Witnesses as a ruthless, dangerous cult.
Well, they've been wrong so many times,"false Witnesses" could be a good term. And they are charactarized by "strong authoritarianism"...
...but, as already mentioned, this kind of stuff often does more harm than good to the non-jw cause.

I've worked out since I was a teenager, but I've had too many injuries (two hernias, numerous nagging sore spots) and am limited by an average frame to really grow huge muscles and the possible huge ego that can, but doesn't necessarily have to, come with them. Without knowing your boys personally kls, I obviously can't tell what they're really thinking. It's possible that their size and interest in bodybuilding caused them to feel overconfident. Guys are a funny lot - sometimes, we've got too much ego and testosterone for our own good. I've seen guys checking themselves out in a mirror and admiring their body, and lord knows what they're really thinking - maybe something like, 'hey, I can take on the world'. If that's the case, then the guy is working out for the wrong reasons.
Bodybuilding can be a great way to stay in shape (there's lots of methods and not all are designed to create a monster physique) and so I think it's a worthwhile pursuit - when accompanied by a proper sense of self.

Because I insure with the same company for home, life, and auto, my rates weren't all that bad, until...my teenager started driving. In any case, I understand your frustration Mary. It seems we never have money to save or just enjoy for ourselves. It's always going somewhere - insurances, fuel, taxes, etc, etc.

I just watched the STS-114 Space Shuttle fly over head
by Elsewhere ini normally don't wake up this early in the morning just to watch the space shuttle fly by, but this was a speciall occasion.
this was the last time the shuttle will be visible in this area before it lands.
there is also the fact that the shuttle fleet is being grounded again -- maybe forever.

I hope they can fly it again, but the design is showing its age, and now that more 'eyes' in the way of high-resolution cameras are trained on it, I think we're seeing some of the problems with reusable craft design that must be addressed in the next generation of such vessels. Such problems (debris damage, hanging tile fillers, torn thermal blankets) have only been seen after the craft landed, or were discovered too late (or too little was done upon discovery), as in the tragic case of the Columbia shuttle.
