"Blunders that led to World War"
by Jeffro inon the watchtower.org site at the moment, they are featuring a link to an article that first appeared in the august 2009 awake!
that purportedly talks about how world war i began.. in jw make-believe land, world war i began suddenly, and was essentially a big surprise.
so it's interesting to note that the one of the most significant things that led to world war ithe first and second balkan warsare completely omitted from the article.

One thing I will add is that there has been unquestionably over the decades an effort to make 1914 into a marked year, and that is something that distinguishes them doctrinally, and nothing has changed. So, while I mentioned that the article doesn't appear to say that WWI happened out-of-the-blue, there is always that attempt to cast 1914 as a special year, in line with the Watchtower's teachings concerning the End Times. In no way am I assuming that the Society is suddenly becoming more accurate their assessment of what those events indicate.

The article hardly seems to intend to be comprhensive. I stated that from what I read from the current article, they do at least suggest that there were events that led to the war, not that it just occured almost from nowhere. OK, they don't mention the Balkan Wars, but they do mention the 'tensions' in that region and in other areas of Europe as well. I just don't see a smoking gun in this article. I'm sorry. And at least one other post by another member, transhuman68 commented similarly.
Justitia: I was not commenting on past articles. My comment was confined to the current article cited in the original post. I'm hardly a jw apologist, but I just can't see much to attack in this instance.

The article that Jeffro mentions at the outset does in fact suggest that there was a buildup to the War, that it did not just happen by surprise. I don't see how this can be interpreted as the Watchtower saying that the war just happened, with no run-up...
"By 1914, long-standing rivalries among European powers had stretched nerves taut and produced two opposing alliances"
"At the time, the area called the Balkans was a politically volatile region chafing under the sovereignty of the bigger powers, and it was rife with secret societies scheming for independence." - No mention of Balkan Wars, but it's not like the article passed the Balkans off as inconsequential.
" Furthermore, in the prewar years, “a great tidal wave of hypernationalism swept over Europe,” says the book Cooperation Under Anarchy. "
“Once the [Schlieffen] plan was set in motion, the system of military alliances almost assured a general European war,” says World Book Encyclopedia."

Just "discovered" sweet potatoes and yams
by compound complex insweet potato was already an important crop on pacific islands when europeans landed on the islands: easter island (roggeveen, 1722), new zealand (cook, 1769), and the hawaiian islands (cook, 1778).
sweet potato, known as kumara, was a staple in the diet of the maoris of new zealand; interestingly, the name kumar is used for this plant in peru!
rongo ma-tane, a maori god, protects this plant; a buried tuber is powerful enough to cause enemy to go mad and run away.. http://mrbrownthumb.blogspot.com/2007/11/storing-sweet-potato-vine-tubers.html .

Sweet potatoes are a superior tuber to the typical baking potato in this important aspect - they do not cause an isulin spike. People concerned with blood sugar control do well to eat them. Fitness experts praise them as a better choice for consumption, especially prior to a workout.

Interesting presentation Captain Janeway, I mean, Blonde Moment.
Yes, showing an illustration of the two people whose actions, according to the Bible, led to the sentencing of the entire human race to futility and death is supposed to somehow parallel a young boy playing with a toy wizard. Mind bloggling.

Prayers at mealtime!!?
by Frog inwho still find it strange years on to dive straight into your mail meal without 'giving thanks'?
i say main meal, because dad's prayers were always considerably lengthy before a main meal, and are an institution in every jw household.
even now after a few years i'm just about ready to tuck in when i find myself saying a simple thanks under my breath.

Funny, I was Googling Bart Simpson's prayer before-meal, and this thread, is at the top, from 7 years ago, and the same topic is now a current thread on JWN. So I posted this to move this thread back into circulation.

by Amelia Ashton ini don't seem to be making myself clear these days.
.
there has been so many "dislikes" on sparlock clips i received a message from youtube.. i asked for people to "like" the videos instead of "dislike" because this will also push the videos to the top of searches and hopefully get more views especially for jws searching from it .. i am now getting abuse.. please can people "like" the clips so the balance between like and dislike gets reversed.. ty x.

Another reason I felt compelled to Dislike it (besides the fact that it's yet another manipulative product of JW origin) is that I was concerned that JWs who see a lot of Likes would interpret it as a favorable reaction to the Organization's teachings.*
Incidentally, there were several separate postings of the video and I paid no attention to who loaded it.
* While reading the Comments would reveal that most viewers have a negative reaction, the Comments were disabled on two of the three uploads that I watched.

Sorry, but I had to Dislike. If I Liked, it would be like pleading guilty to a crime I didn't commit.
Seriously, I know it's important to keep the video hot, but I just can't bring myself to Like it.

Nothing like starting a thread out of the blue with no references to what you're referring to.
