This is my biggest complaint against the JW lifestyle, it robs children of happiness and the chance to live a normal life. Thankfully I had "worldly" christian relatives who helped make it a little better for us.

How much does your childhood have a bearing on your future?
by jambon1 inwhen a lot of you were being taken along to the kingdom hall as children, i was involved with school projects and my dads favourite football team.. we were a community family.
we had bonfires, haloween parties, new year parties & to some extent christmas.
i also gathered among around 13 000 other people to watch our capitals biggest football (soccer) team every 2nd week.

Will Racial Issues Change In The USA Now?
by minimus indo you think that this country will change for the better now that we've elected a new president?
-

I won't oppose Obama yet until I see what he does with the economy, and see if he is man enough to stand up against Nancy Pelosi.
I do see some positive changes in race relations.
All was not lost on election night, and the Republican party will come back stronger than ever, with a little more diversity.
Congraulations Sylvia, I wish you peace and happiness. -

Prop 8 - Petition against the tax-exempt status of the Mormons
by Devilsnok ini see no reason why any organised religion should be exempt from paying their due taxes.
here's a chance to rob the mormon church of their tax exempt status.... please visit http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/review-the-501c3-status-of-the-church-of-latter-day-saints-the-mormons and sign it and pass it on to your friends.. .
the lds church contributed a significant amount of money and effort to endorse prop 8 in california via its network of church, media, and community outlets enshrining discrimination under the law for thousands of californians and their families.. .

Think about it this way, the governement infringed upon the right of Mormons to live their lifestyle. What about the many Mormon fringe groups that practice polygamy still, can you imagine what they are thinking--"Well if we can't practice polygamy, why should they be allowed to marry?"
What if the propostion 8 ballot included the right to polygamy in addition to gay marriage, I am sure that at least some Mormon vote would have went the other way.
I wonder how many Mormons are opposed to polygamy? The church doesnt officially recognize it anymore, but had the government still allowed it, they probably would still be doing it. -

Yes, I haven't really thought about the persecution angle, but it could draw in more members and even strengthen the churches.

Thanks Ynot, I am just wondering if most other christians like Deputy Dog and you (assuming you are) are also OK with the Tax issue.
I would imagine the bigger churches would be more opposed to it, but I am not sure. -

Thanks for sharing, and I wonder if some Christians would be against a church tax by interpreting "God's things to God" to mean church income.
This is a very interesting topic and even if they are able to get churches tax exemptions revoked, we can turn that to our advantage. A win-win situation. -

Yes they both were greedy. I believe the money belonged to her and she should have gotten the bulk of it. I think he should have taken the 10%, but I think anywhere from 10%-50% would still be fair. I think she should have offered more, and to think both of them were friends and former classmates.
I don't think the heirs from the previous owner should get anything. -

So Ynot, does that mean you are for or against churches paying tax?
