Implications of gay marriage ruling
by Rattigan350 inwhile many think that the ruling is good for the gays and their response is: how does that affect your marriage; then on the other side the religious people cry god and sinners.
but both are missing the forest through the trees.. the problem with the ruling is that which is discussed here so many times.
five unelected federal officials decided on policy for the whole country, running roughshod over every democratic principle.

Sir82, that is the opposite of what this movement says--this movement is not about majority rules and will gladly tell you so. They will tell you that "majority rules" does not exist. Our forefathers left a "minority rules" type of government to come here so the majority could rule. They came here so "we the people" could determine our own destiny as a nation instead of having power concentrated in the hands of a few. -

I am not happy when I see democratic principles thwarted. I voted against gay marriage 8 years ago, and would gladly vote against it again. I see this whole movement as one big cult, bent on destroying traditional values and free speech in this nation. I have seen them twist the bible in the very same way the Watchtower does, I have seen them try to silence dissent, in the very same way the Watchower does. I have seen them do an end run around the political process by whoring off the judicial system, in the same way the Watchtower does. It would be hypocritical of me to lambast the Watchtower society, and then turn around and embrace this movement, for it stands against everything I hold dear--freedom of speech, freedom of religion, etc etc. -

So it basically boils down to numbers--more justices ruled for gay marriage than against. Had it been the other way around, then gay marriage would have lost. I guess the majority rules in this instance. -

funny though, if the Supreme Court interpreted the constitution differently and ruled against gay marriage, people would be crying, "this is a democracy, this can't happen" etc etc. They want to use democracy when it is convenient for their agenda, and when it isn't they just defer it to the judicial branch--it is an end run around the will of the people, placing power in the hands of a few. Our forefathers would be horrified if they could see how our government has gone. -

You're absolutely right! This whole movement reminds me so much of the Watchtower, the similarities are uncanny. -

Not true! There are many people who would vote for Dr.Ben Carson (blacker than Obama) that totally disagree with Obama. It is not about race, but about jobs, and preserving the american way of life over foreign intrusion -

Anybody see this?
by Junction-Guy ini just saw a couple of news stories from israel.
apparently the jw's were attempting to hold some kind of convention there, and the the town ruled against the jw's, but another court sided with the jw's and they were allowed to have their event.
it turns out several hundred local orthodox jews turned out to protest this event, and it did turn violent at one point.
