I remember there was one congregation in Southern Illiois that still had the 15 minute break as late as the late 70's and early 1980's.

Do you remember the 15 minute break at the Sun. meeting?
by 3rdgen ina poster on another thread reminded me of when there was a 15 min.
break between the talk and the wt study on sundays.
the break was supposed to be to allow jw's time to drive their bible studys home from the talk.

Just watched a documentary on the Mormon church and I reckon they have got far more scandal and issues with BS doctrins than the witnesses ever did
by joe134cd inmust admit i didn't know a lot about the mormon church, so i decided to spend my saturday night exploring them on you tube.
after having viewed it i reckon the watchtower dosnt even come close to the scandal and total bs that surrounds the mormon church.
this is just 2 examples.

The Mormon religion may seem alot wackier, and indeed may be--but the JW religion is far more destructive in the everyday life of the members.

It is a temporary fix, as I would guess alot of the young people there either leave altogether or maybe go back to their roots.

The Shakers didn't believe in procreation--so naturally they died out.
The Quakers are still around, I believe
The Essenes, I have no clue who they are.

I think most churches probably care more about relevance than doctrine, along with money, devotion etc etc etc which is why I can even see the JW's evolving. There will always be hardcore churches who don't water down the bible though and their numbers will drop for sure--the bible says so.

Good point 20yearfader, my church doesn't water down the bible--but there are many PC churches that have sprung up. My church is pretty hardcore, so if any young people were to leave over doctrine, it would probably be because they are looking for a watered down doctrine that tickles their ears.

I am not really sure how to answer your question but I will try. Most born in Baptists usually leave over one or 2 things, usually it involves alcohol and partying. These kids want to leave home and party and drink---and they usually come back later on after they are all partied out. Many also tend to find other churches that are more stiff in their worship style--the kind where everything is planned out, and nothing is impromptu.
It seems like most JW's leave for so many varied reasons, too numerous to name!
Statistic wise, I can't say who has the greater number of born ins who leave vs. the amount that eventually return.

Yes and No---The young people I see who come in are typically married, and they come in together at the same time. I would say that quite a few young people leave, but eventually come back. There are not alot of mass conversions, but just here and there. When they do leave the church it is usually for one of the same denomination that just happens to have more contemporary music.
