Are we talking disfellowshipping, shunning, or both?
yesidid
when i was a jw i remember believing that disfellowshipping was jws great and distinguishing feature.
great, because it got rid of the people that didn't take our righteous path seriously and wanted the temporary trappings of the world including all the sinful stuff and brought them back into our puritanical line if they genuinely repented.
the congregation therefore maintained a high christain standard.
Are we talking disfellowshipping, shunning, or both?

well this happened to me a few weeks ago, but i chose to post it later because i'm paranoid.
anyway, i was riding in field service with an elder and our conversation turned to apostasy.
well, he turned it to apostasy because he usually dominates 99% of the conversations we have.but i digress, this is how our conversation went.
While we were still attending meetings a speaker from another congo said in a talk that '75 has been blown out of all
proportion, that the society had not really been behind the pre '75 excitement .
After the talk my husband took him aside and filled him in on the facts of the situation. At least he was gracious enough to
say "Oh I didn't realize, I must look into it."
we have been reading about the medical-scientific pros and cons of blood transfusions but little has been said to refute what jw's .
claim is the bible teaching on the subject.
ajwrb covers this very well.

Ajwrb covers this very well. The pages below are very well written and completely demolish the WT teaching. Must read for anyone
interacting with JWs on the subject..

ways.
keep walking in jehovah's upright ways.
Thank you Blondie,
So many goodies in this review. From you, not THEM.
I was thinking this week that one reason the WTS uses the OT so much is that their audience is made up of the non-anointed almost exclusively. If they used NT scriptures too much, these great crowd (GC) or other sheep (OS) members of the rank and file might start thinking that those words were written to them rather than just to those who hope to rule in heaven with Christ.
That could be the case. Like you I am at a loss to explain their consistant use of OT when they are not talking to Jews but supposed Christians.
And thank you for that well researched list of Watchtower disfellowshipping offences. I've kept it. Never know when it might be needed.
Many thanks again, hugs and have a great new year.:

did i get your attention?
good!
some friends and i are planning a bit of a world tour.
you backwards people
How to win friends and influence people.
i have had a quick look and found no references to this, so - here goes..as in the mag we picked up on sunday.. worldwide % increase over 2004 = 1.3%.
memorial partakers 8524 (compared to 8570 in 2004).
most european and nth american lands show pretty static figs - britain 1% increase, canada 0%, germany 0%, france 1%, usa 0%... but spare a thought for the inhabitants of zambia where 1 person in 90 is a reporting witness, must be hell going down to the local market!
It should be the leading of the HS and having Christ in your heart that moves you to speak out.
Spot on Ozzie, but seeing we have both been where David is now, we can understand that such a concept will be quite foreign to him.
The good thing is that one day he too will know, when our Lord returns if not before.
BTW Ozzie did you get my email?

Therefore, we should respect them and obey them. We have to be careful not to speak abusively of those who are teaching the wonderful truths of the Bible. (compare 2 Peter 2:10-13).
I must say David that the Watchtower has had some over the top doctrines in it's day. Some of course have changed and some have been done away with altogether. But the one that really takes the cake is that the"glorious ones" referred to in 2Peter 2 are the elders in the congregation. I know so many elders who have been disfellowshiped for immorality and dishonesty that it is a disgrace and blasphemy against Jehovah God and Christ Jesus to say such ones were spirit appointed. Elders "Glorious ones" what a disgraceful teaching.
i do not know if any of you have heard.
no one in my congo.
other than one other elder on the body has heard:.
Just received this:
Big changes at Bethel. Bros VanDeWall, Jaracz, Pierce and Weaver gave a talk to the Bethelites after the Watchtower Study.
They wanted everyone to be there so made an announcement ahead of time. The emphasis is being put more on the field and
they are going to start to drastically reducethe number of Bethelites. Some will be sent to Gilead, some as sub CO's
some as CO's. They asked them to please accept the assignment because itis as if it's a Bethel assignment.
Some will be sent out as Sp. pioneers some as foreign Bethelites but not as BIFS, permanent Bethel assignments.
The older ones too will be able to do telephone witnessing in Bethel and those who can will be going out in service one day a week. What a loving
arrangement. Sounds exciting. Bro. Jaracz says now get a good nights rest nd be ready to work tomorrow. Everyone laughed because they know
they will be all night crying or thinking about the new arrangement. The chariot is changing directions right?
so last night we had the last book study at our house, next week all the congregations change around and i asked for it to be moved.
so i sat in on it, and afterwards we had a bit of a 'party'.
felt quite emotional really, although i haven't answered for a long time i put my hand up to read a scripture just so i could mark the last time i did this.
He has often quoted me the scripture where the apostles say to Jesus"where else shall we go"..
You might like to point out to him next time that the scripture does not say "where else shall we go" as the WT intimates. It actually says "To WHOM shall we go? You have the sayings of everlasting life." John 6:69
Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life. (WEB)
Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. (ASV)
Then Simon Peter gave this answer: Lord, to whom are we to go? you have the words of eternal life; (BBE)
Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast words of life eternal; (DBY)
Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. (KJV)
Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. (WBS)
"Master," replied Simon Peter, "to whom shall we go? Your teachings tell us of the Life of the Ages. (WEY)
Simon Peter, therefore, answered him, 'Sir, unto whom shall we go? thou hast sayings of life age-during; (YLT)
Peter says we should go to Jesus, not any man made organization.
