Serpent in the Garden of Eden is not Satan

many interpret serpent in the garden of eden as the satan hence miss the whole point because satan himself does not exist.

he is a fictional character [for example, in the temptation account, satan is shown as reflecting the erroneous belief of ancient time that shape of earth is flat, thus taking jesus to the top of “a very high mountain” and showed him “all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor.” (mathew 4:8, 9) the fact that jesus did not correct the mistaken view of satan shows the account of temptation is allegorical.

further, jesus knew that satan was only a personification of evil (mathew 16:23; john 6:70) and categorically declared that “all evil thoughts proceed from one’s heart,” not from satan.

In the middle ages some viewed the serpent in Eden as being Lilith, a demon who was believed first by the Babylonians. She is actually much more ancient than the character called Satan.

Many bible stories were believed many different ways through the ages by many different people. The modern consensus just seems certain to many because it just happens to be popular and fueled by many strong feelings.

Ancient scripture beliefs varied wildly before the modern era. Its amazing how few Christians seem to recognize this.

Why did Jesus tell the convict on the cross next to his, that he would be joining him in Heaven TODAY??

maybe a silly question, but i'm curious about this part of the story of christ's crucifixion, when the 1 thief challenges jesus to save himself and "us too" from their deaths, but the 2nd thief rebukes him and pleads with jesus... .

luke 23:42-43: and he said unto jesus, lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.

and jesus said unto him, verily i say unto thee, today shalt thou be with me in paradise.. .

matthew 27:38 Two rebels were crucified with him, one on his right and one on his left.

matthew 27:44 In the same way the rebels who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him.

mark 15:27 They crucified two rebels with him, one on his right and one on his left.

john 19:18 There they crucified him, and with him two others—one on each side and Jesus in the middle.

Luke obviously just made shit up. the other stories don't mention that at all and in matthew they both insulted jesus. 3 vs 1. but then again these were all just collections of stories passed through decades of word of mouth illiteracy to later be penned by other people and then collected together into nameless books that we later assigned names to. So most of everything in the gospels either didn't happen or is vastly exagerrated.

A more interesting question is what were jesus last words?

To add to Saved_Jw's point.

the hebrew word used in reference to david is a form of messiah in other locations. Also in the septuagint versions the word christos is used in reference to david in those same locations. This is even espressed in the footnotes of reference bible at those locations. but they fail to point out that they are literally variations of the same word that is later used to describe jesus.

I can't immediately recall but jerome's vulgate may also use christ in these locations. I'm too lazy to check at the moment but it would be easy to check just google it in latin and navigate to it. latin of course uses romanized letters so its easy to see even if you can't read latin.

gotta love the first sentence. says acts 15:14 is about a "milestone governing body meeting in Jerusalem in 49 C.E." PSH! the only reason paul and Barnabas had to go there was cause Judeans were coming up to antioch and starting up shit with their brethren up their. and it was Antioch that sent paul and Barnabas to the governing body to correct the matter! From what i can tell.

then paragraph 2 going on with the booth of david being rebuilt with the permanent king Jesus. but then flips away from jesus to praise the annointed remnant and great crowd who are servants of Jehovah.

paragraph 6 makes an insulting and innaccurate definition of the trinity

paragraph 9 says "As Greek concepts made inroads, many Jews became vulnerable to demonic control because they adopted the view
that demons could be evil or good." funny i don't remember reading about demons in the hebrew scriptures. and my searches aren't pulling up any. Hmm.

watchtower is such a joke now.

Good points here srd. Its a good thing to understand the documentary hypothesis some, it has helped me actually have more faith in the way it resolves many of the contradictions in the bible. especially the torah.

It was also a very popular topic among scholars in the 20th century. Its almost essential to me for deep biblical study to acknowledge that many of these accounts likely had multiple sources.

I'm new here and happy to see some deep thinkers who aren't just consumed with anger from their experience with the WT
